Scooter 911: How to replace a faulty BRAKE SWITCH 

I had dirt inside my switch that stopped the spring from moving. I cleaned it out with ballistol and compressed air, hooked it up and it works for now till I order a new switch. Thank you for the video!

Thank you for helping out an old lady with a 10 year old scooter. I had disassembled the whole rear end of my scooter to see if it was a tail light bulb. It wasn't. I finally tried to see if the brake switches were bad. And I found out it was a simple switch bad on the right side on my wolf 150cc. ❤

Thank you for this. My scooter fell on the right side either by wind or someone accidentally knocked it over to its side. Rear brake lever which looked like have taken most of the brunt no no longer actuate the brake lights. I now have a better idea where to look in fixing it. 👍👍 SUBBED!

I love me some of that Garrett Seesing! I am not mechanically inclined so much but you've made doing the maintenance and upkeep on my scooter a lot less daunting and I'm not afraid to get in there and tackle some of the issues this Tao Tao Lancer came equipped with. And for more positive news... I had an Icebear Hawk Eye that some schmo stole. I was cereal pissed off. Post-Toasties pissed off, I tell you. So I filed a claim with GEICO expecting to see about $250 after the $250 deductible. I was wrong! GEICO sent a check for $185 more than I paid for the scooter. 18 months later! As far as I can tell, scooters may be one of the few vehicles out there that hold their value over that period of time. And that's just the comprehensive coverage. They don't offer full-replacement policies for scooters. It works out nicely because I can get the black Hawk Eye now and find scooter happiness again. I might keep the Tao Tao Lancer for a learning tool. Those scooters sure have enough problems to make them classroom worthy. Thanks, Garret, you give me knowledge I use a lot.

Just bought roketa scooter.brake light never illuminated brighter when pressing brake. Everything else was good. Now e start won't work and no signals. But still kick starts and drives fine except for blinkers and e start. Could this be brake switch?

From the time of delivery of my 150cc scooter it has had idling issues. Run to hot. Spurts of 45 mph versus 70mph. Turns out. The spark plug coil wire where they meet is bad. Came from the factory that way. My spark plug wire is about 22inches long. Can you show spark plug coil replacement. As well as installing gasket not o ring on intake manifold.

Hey Garrett so I just bought my wife a 06 tao tao vip 49 / 50cc scooter the orange one the tail light and brake light both stay illuminated and do not change with the brake switch when pressed or depressed would that be from a brake switch that is faulty. Love the vids and direct info on these scooters, not many will work on them Im finding out so much appreciated.

unable to get u, after removing the Caliper the micro switch is very hard to remove. is it screwed or simply fixed in.

Suggestion: I got my bike running. The only few problems I had with it now are: -Tail Lights dont "blink" when connected and they both turn on at the same time instead of individually when right/left pressed (previous owner installed custom lights but never figured out the wiring he told me so they're disconnected, trying to figuring it out myself now) -Fuel Gauge not working, might need to replace it or fix it if possible (that's where you come in ;) ) -Seat mechanism not working have to 'un-hook it' by hand -Brake Fluid reservoir was dry empty and dirty with rust looking dust so not sure if I can clean it or needs replacing Scooter: 2004 Yamaha Zuma 50 Love your content :D

So, on my 50cc, the rear brake handle requires a lot more compression before the brake light comes on, and then if it's squeezed too far, the brake light goes out, whereas my front brake handle is a hair trigger, a slight squeeze and the brake light comes on... what could be the issue with the rear brake handle system?

Question: I just bought a used 2020 Tao Tao and the brake light isn't working. The lady I bought it from doesn't know why. Both brake levers won't light it up. Is it possible that it's the bulb? I heard that if one brake switch goes out, the other usually still works. I think I'll check the bulb first. I hope that's it lol.

Hey man i’ve been attempting to repair my gfs chinese scooter for a while she only drives it about 5 miles to work and it works fine in the day time but at night it shuts off on her halfway home. She thinks the headlight drains the battery. Any idea what the issue might be? Ive replaced the cdi, the relay switch, bought a new battery, the sparkplug and cable, the regulator, cleaned the carburetor, made sure everything is connected properly.also she broke the directionals in the front. Any recommendations where I can get new ones please and thank you. Be safe. Really appreciate any reply thanks again. Came across this channel while trying to diagnose my no start condition. Many thanks to you for taking the time to make such great videos. My problem however seems a bit different: Thought it was the brake switch as I confirmed battery, relay and starter all working (bridged the relay to get it going). Then I noticed that the brake switches do in fact work when the scooter is running but not when the ignition is in the start position. Does this point to the ignition switch being faulty?

What does it suggest when both front and back brake switches won't start up the engine

I'm connecting a trailer with led strips amber for turn signals, and red for running and break light, connected to it's own relays and inline fuse to the battery. The area I'm stuck at is? How do I connect it all? Lol I thought I had it planned, but I'm figuring out which wire is which, basically looking for the right switch that does it's function, while connected to the battery through a fuse. Hey Garret! I've been watching all your scooter 911 videos lately, because I recently bought a broken 2015 50cc Taotao. The seller said it needed a new carburetor, so I bought and installed a brand new one, and it ran great... for about a week. The electric start stopped working, and my kickstart snapped right off :(. I've tried troubleshooting my charging system. The battery reads about 12.5 Volts turned off, but it doesn't seem to have enough power to engage the starter clutch & turn the gears. I'm not really sure where else to turn, I'm really trying not to fork over $80/hr in labor at the mechanic. If you have any ideas, please let me know. Keep up the great videos

You always create a professional video. This one was the same. You didn't actually show the switch. These things get boring to a pro and some stuff seems so simple to a noobie, like me, it gets lost. It's simple enough. Two switches on Ebay for $7.99.

My left and right are different. The one on the left facing looking at the scooter is a box with a switch. The one on the left is like the one you show in your video.

I watched this twice. I watch all your videos more than one time because you're a good instructor. I've got a Tao Tao Lancer and the headlights have been underperformers, to say the least. The one bulb for the low beam went out. So I used the high beam and that went out. I took the headlight unit off and found the high beam had gotten so hot it cooked the metal connector and it came apart in my hand. I moved the high beam to the low beam side and connected it and have a headlight now. I'm going to order the headlight unit on payday but I'm wondering if you have an idea why the high beam would get so hot at the connection? I'm not really a fan of the Lancer anymore, the quality is not nearly up to what the Icebear Hawk Eye I had was and I'm going to get a new Hawk Eye and sell this Lancer. I just want to be able to tell the buyer what to expect with the lights if I can. I'd appreciate anything you can think of that might help me fix the overheating.

Worth mentioning that there are three types of switches. One that screws in and one that's held in by clips. Then with those combinations there are switches that open the circuit when the switch is pressed. Then there's those who close it. To test them, disconnect the wires and test resistance between the two cables when pressing the lever. If there's no change in resistance when braking, it's faulty. If the resistance goes all over the place, it's faulty. Typically a functioning switch goes from open loop to showing resistance when pressed. Or the other way around.
