I was surprised if not shocked to discover this scorpion in Switzerland and to learn it is in fact native to the region. Alpiscorpious Italicus and Alpiscorpious alpha are both found in the canton of Ticino near the Italian border. (Not being an expert on scorpion taxonomy I am also seeing Euscorpius italicus and Euscorpius alpha being used as name for same scorpions) See: mds.marshall.edu/euscorpius/v...
In this video I explain what scorpions eat, how they hunt, how they eat, where they are found and I elaborate on their danger to humans.

That is indeed Euscorpius italicus, really cool find, Frank! I knew there were scorpions in Italy, but I didn’t realize that they range up into Switzerland. Lots of great facts in here, and nice shots. Great work!

Hi Wildlife brothers! Great to hear from you guys! Thanks for the species ID confirmation...a bit out of my knowledge comfort zone. I am impressed with your knowledge and their range. How did you know that...have you been adventuring in Italy, too?

@@natureatyourdoor We haven’t been to Italy yet (or Europe in general), but it’s high on our list! With Euscorpius italicus its size is actually a useful diagnostic, no other scorpion in the region gets that big to my knowledge. Also, comparing images of that one to E. italicus online returned some pretty promising comparisons.

Wow, very surprising! But, even when you poked him, he was very reluctant to use his stinger.

Very true! I am impressed you noticed that! Shows they are very unlikely to use it ..except as last resort! Great observation!

OMG❤. Being a huge fan of Horseshoe Crabs, I loved this video so much since scorpions are somewhat related to them. Just hearing about their body parts shows how similar they are. Loved the excitement in your voice even as you told us about them well after your initial encounter. So cool! Thanks for the reminder about being careful while investigating! Rocks flippers unite!😂❤

Hi Frank. Awsome as always. From Pennsylvania student Jeff. I love your channel. Im always learning from you. I have a question. Here in Pennsylvania should the indigo buntings be here yet. Im seeing alot of eastern blue birds ,but have seen no buntings yet. I help maintain over 300 bird boxes on our game lands. And ive not seen any scarlet tannergers yet. I have seen them every year on sgl 067. I worry about that what i help take care of. The wood rat bolders have all been moved. Tomorrow i have to demonstrate the 85p excavator for john deere. Not to bad for an old army combate engineer. God has been kind to me. God bless Frank. Pennsylvania Jeff. 😊

Never would have thought that scorpion could be found in Switzerland. I thought that they were in dry, arid deserts.

My sentiment exactly! I thought same. I recently founded out there is a small scorpion living here in southwest VA . I am hoping to find one this summer!

LOL WHAAAATTT your Momma didn't tell ya? Typical 'Merican poking things with a stick? hehehe I only poked fun at ya for the "Make you jealous" comment from before. Wait hehehe "Merican poking".....seems I am just as "Pokey"? hehhehehehe I am learning an awful lot from your channel and it coincides with the Practical/Learned Knowledge I am developing? Don't blindly feel for eggs, and quit flipping rocks!!!! OH, and Sticks are great tools!🤣🤣 I have been to several Reptile/Tarantula and Other Exotic 'pets' Fairs/Sales..never even heard of these Scorpions. Pretty cool critter!
