Highland Spring Group opened Scotland’s first dedicated rail freight facility in over a decade in 2022, in a move that’ll accelerate their journey to net zero.
The new facility, adjacent to Highland Spring’s main bottling plant in Blackford, was planned in partnership with Transport Scotland, Network Rail, and the Scottish Government. It offers long-term environmental benefits by removing 8,000 HGV movements from the road, saving 3,200 tonnes of C02 annually.
We spoke with Morwen Mands, Head of Sustainability at Highland Spring about the new facility, and the collaboration effort involved in bringing it to life. It’s an excellent example of the public and private sectors working closely with government to fight climate change head-on. We’re working hard to ensure that rail freight becomes the primary logistics choice for businesses in Scotland by 2035.
If you’re thinking about switching your freight from road to rail, particularly over longer distances, we would love to talk with you. Contact our freight team to learn more.
