That is superior service! Absolutely love your passion for keeping bikes going as long as possible. Nice to know that you (and your customers) value sustainability instead of just throwing things away to buy new.
Love to see a well-used bike, those jockey wheels look(and must feel) brand new after your detailed work. Thanks to the bike owner for allowing the extra turnaround time for filming. Indeed a Massive difference to the bike 👌👌
This bike has really seen some miles, customer must have had a blast when riding the bike again after the service. Since your channel inspires people to open their own shops or at least get much more involved at home, how about a little shop tour video? A good workshop usually has a very efficient use of workspace, just like the kitchen in a good restaurant. I'm sure yours looks immaculate. Great job and bon appétit ;)
We really are a very small operation, we’ve managed to grow far beyond what we thought we would and would love to refit our shop so definitely maybe down the line but we’re really not much bigger than the workshop you see 🧡
Another outstanding transformation! Love when you straighten out the details and pet peeves like the springs on the skews and lining up the tire logo. Also noticed you cleaned the pedals separately this time. Well done as usual.
I've recently started watching this channel. I've got to say that you are a fantastic and thorough cycle Mechanic. I used to work in a cycle shop in the late nineties and was also in Mountain biking/cycling. I recently got back into it more often, bought a new bike and started watching lots of things on RU-vid. You are definitely my favourite repair/restoration mechanic. Thank you! 🙂
Sealed headset bearings are a significant upgrade for mountain bikes, good call. That bicycle must have felt like a brand new one with that drivetrain replacement! Thanks for the consistent video uploads! 🚲🔧
Another solid transformation. I’ve noticed over the past few videos you use the term “anti seize” instead of “copper slip”. We all know it’s copper slip 😉😎🇫🇮
8:50 I really like those extra details. Maybe it is better to align the pressure recommendation info with the valve, so when you need to pump you can see the specs more easily. Excellent video! I really like how you organize the syringes, it looks very professional :D
Also, how does your floor set up look like? Curious to see how yall deal with the water after a heavy wash like this. I’m sorta used to washing the bike outside, and working on it inside, Never really heavily washed a bike indoors.
We don’t have an outside area available so we actually use very little water. It looks a lot more on the videos than it is. We just mop up after ourselves 🧡⚙️
2:03 - and that is why I wanted a full length mudguard on mine even though it will have very little use off road. I want to keep any water/muck off the front derailleur bits.
I hope you regularly check the torque wrench because those click type torque wrench’s go off spec a lot. I notice you don’t use a spoke protector as well, not sure why. I personnaly hate quick release anything. Too easy for stuff to get stolen and doesn’t help when you get a puncture at all. I also know of someone that went head over heels when their front tire came loose while riding.
Hmm with that well ridden bike i would have expected a fork service as well with all the different types of forkes that could have been very interesting. But anyway nice vid!
Greetings from South Africa gents. Loving the channel and glad I found it. Watching a lot of mtb videos here for education purpose, but absolutely loving the old bike restorations! I do have a question about the mountain bike services, why do you never do the suspension oil and seals/orings? Keep up the great work!
Hi! Thanks for watching the videos and enjoying all the content! We do service forks and suspension when we’re asked but in our local area most people just commute on their mountain bikes and simply want them fixed as cheap as possible!🧡⚙️
Hey! Big fan. One Question though. I heard that you should never use Copper Paste when aluminium is involved due to some chemical reaction that causes some corrosion. What is your take on that? Thanks in advance!
The corrosion is between the steel and aluminium on bikes not the one element of copper on either of those. The copper is actually there to prevent that exact corrosion🧡
I run full bearings on my road bike, but otherwise it is worse than shimano original, as debris gets into the bearings, as you demonstrated. Also I am surprosed a 3x9 29" bike like this one with so much use is still arround!
A hell lot of work. I just wonder how much it costs to have a complete service of a Scott Aspect. Probably buying a new Aspect is not much more expensive?
Love the video as always. How did you know what size of headset cup you would need. Measure? Standard size? Also I think that is heal rub on the chainstays. I know that because ALL my bikes have it haha. Thanks again for the amazing videos
It’s very complicated to get the sizing on any bearing without seeing them there are many variants but your local bike shop could tell you if you take them the bearing. Thanks for watching Andrew!🧡⚙️
Awesome guys, love a good dirty bike cleanup! What do you use to wash the bike with? You say soapy water but is that literally washing up liquid or a bike specific cleaner?
@@Bikespeeds nice one, just didn't want to douse mine in Fairy Liquid then watch the paint fall off or have the bearings turn to dust! And is the big softie brush a Park Tools one?
Great video! Mountain bikes are my favorite. I’m wondering what your thoughts are on power washing bikes? Is using a soft brush like you have the better way to go?
Just wondering why you would not pre-clean the bike outside with a high pressure cleaner (not aiming point blank at bearing areas or course)? Any downside doing so?
Hi mate from Netherlands. Truly appreciate your hard work and impeccable eye for detail. Overdelivering imo on each bike. Question. What made u conclude the bike had a well maintained service life? Drivetrain seems to be over worn and way beyond service intervals. Do you do fork services too? No offense to your customer but love to hear from you. Keep doing this terriffic vids. Cheers.
Great question! Everything we removed felt torqued correctly, a few components were greased that usually aren’t and from the upgraded jockey wheels and fresh pads you can tell that at some point money has been spent on it. We hadn’t seen this bike before but instantly you can tell the budgeted or un-serviced bikes from the just really worn but actually looked after ones 🧡
Seriously addicted to these videos and channel - great content. I know you're a big fan of the microfibre clothes as I am. I wanted what do you do with the dirty ones, do you chuck them in the washing machine occasionally or do you go through them until ruined and replace? thanks
It’s a mixture. We funnel them from clean to greasy. So after going on a clean frame they’ll go to wiping over components etc and the ones that aren’t to greasy go in the wash but the ones that are just go to the bin. Thanks for the support, glad you’re loving the videos!🧡⚙️
I've been wondering why you don't use a fair amount of water to wash the bike, but just spray some washing liquid and wipe the dirt off. Wouldn't a proper wash be a more effective and faster way to wash the bike? However, being careful of places where water must not go.
Good video mate, but why didn’t you scrub the bike with wash and wax before you took it into your workshop ? It looked pretty dirty,I was just thinking of your nice workshop ! 😂
When changing a worn cassette, do you as a matter of course change out the whole set or is it possible to replace only the sprockets in the cassette that are actually worn out?
Love the bike design ru-vid.comUgkxHL1v1R3NE5x4KiYfyt8dnQmyNYz7qi5L and functionality. It is hard to align the front tired to center the disk brakes. The brake wheel touches the stationery side of the brake caliper and pad. I aired the tire up to 40 psi as the markings say 40-60psi. Left the house for a few hours and came back to an exploded innertube. All in all it seems to be a good bike. Have not ridden it yet though so that's the max of my knowledge. Update, put a new innertube made sure the tire was set properly and it did the same thing in under 20 minutes as second pic shows.
These videos get started Thursday and finished an hour before they’re uploaded it’s almost impossible to manage one a week! We’d love to do more content but it’s simply not possible 🧡
UR A MASTER BUILDER MY FREND GREAT TO SEE SKILLED PRO JUST BOUGHT A SCOTT ASPECT LOVE IT JUST WANT ASK U THE STEARING WHEEL CANT BE ADJUSTED HIGHER ON IT CAN IT MINE IS ASPECT 960 MODEL?
