@Anna Gonzales, that's because they don't have the compulsory "School Figures" that were a big part of competition scores! I remember several skaters complaint about them, especially those figure 8's that had to be traced over each other! 😉🤗👵🇺🇸
@@vickireynolds4055 if I remember correctly, Peggy Fleming won the gold because the school figures were untouchable. I'm not saying she wasn't talented, she was, but no one could catch her.
He is a legend! I think today's ice skating has become so technical. Everything is about the quad jump! It's so refreshing to see programs like this one where the skater can have fun and also perform tricks at the same time.
His skating looks so effortless that a person might not even recognize his technical excellence - all his jumps, spins and amazing footwork let him have fun, and entertain us!
Sharon here: I believe Scott to be one of, if not THE best entertainer to ever lace up skates, ever. Brilliant. This, and The Golfer are two of my favorite routines. He brings a full sense of joy ~
My mother believed he is the greatest skater of all time. She cried when he won gold. Watching him brings back great memories of my mom and I watching the Olympics together!. Thank you!
I saw Scott in person at Sky Rink in New York City the first time I saw him many years ago . His performance was just perfect. I was amazed at his speed on the ice and those jumps. He worked very hard to make ice skating look so graceful. He is a great skater, a great person and now a great fighter with the cancers that he has been winning. He amazes us all. I wish him the best and may God bless him with good health and strength against these terrible illnesses which take so many lives. He is a true champ who shows no fear. God bless him.
Scott is my very favorite skater. He brings such joy and laughter to every single performance, along with an amazing amount of talent and artistry. I have to say, he kind of reminds me of Tim Conway with the facial expressions on this one. lol
Wonderful and effortless! So much fun to watch, and the way he engages with the spectators...Scott Hamilton is in a class by himself; the person I miss the most on the ice!!
With all due respect to Messers Button, Boitano, Orser, Gallindo, Petrenko, Browning, Stojko, Lysachek, Candelorio, Eldredge and any other man to ever lace up a pair of figure skates, Scott Hamilton is the best ever. To do a program this elegant and technical - and just plain FUN. - at his age is just amazing. The technical brilliance of his footwork makes my head spin! Simply magnificent!
He makes it look so easy!! He's always delightful because of his amazing foot work skills and elegance but he is also entertaining, and in this case, funny as hell :D
This is not competition skating. This is Stars on Ice and meant to be fun. His competition skating is closer to the people mentioned. Competition skating is so much different that gala skating!
Aaah, Scotty. There will never be another. I watched him years ago and thanks to RU-vid I’m blessed to watch him again and again. Never doubted the backflip was coming but he sure teased us. 😜 He is simply the best. Nathan Chen may have quads and grace, etc, and is a true champion too, but nobody’s Scotty.
Uh sorry to tell you but there was no mocking in this performance. The humor of his program is in perfect keeping with the humor of the aria from the opera. It's a very funny tongue in cheek opera. That's exactly what Hamilton delivered.
I absolutely love watching these older skating programs. I don't really know the new skaters at all. Gran and I used to watch these and laughed so hard at his antics on the ice.
Agree. Haven't watched in a very long time. Not much by way of personality in today's performances. Browning,Wylie,Bolzano had talent but just brought something extra. Scott is a legend by himself. Saw him years ago,my only disappointment was the seat wasn't closer. Phenomenal skater, wonderful compassionate person
This song has such attitude to it that it's surprising it's not used more often by skaters, but I doubt we would see this good of an interpretation from today's quad masters.
My son & I were lucky to meet him at Sea World in the late 80s. I have a darling picture of them . So kind. So amazingly skillfull but I can think of no other skater who showed more joy or love for what he did. He is so loved!
the back flip is like his trade mark, i remember watching him as a young kid an loved how he skated an made his performances funny and love how he did the back flip on the ice.
I don't see this as Scott mocking opera or this particular piece. The skating program is in perfect accord with the spirit of the aria, which has, of course, a fundamental spirit of humor. This is quite wonderful, and so impressive that he was skating it in 2003.
I’ve watched your competitions! I’ve been in AWW since I saw you do that fabulous skating jump! Wow what a skater what a man what an inspiration you are the greatest! Thank you Scott thank you for many years of entertainment and watching you with your brilliant skating!!!!!!!!!💗
The consummate performer! He has more artistry in his little finger than most figure skaters today. Artistry is what makes figure skating enjoyable to the masses.
None better at skating AND entertaining at the same time! I miss the loss of the showmanship to the more technical only aspect! All the guys in this group were technically brilliant and true performers! We don't have that anymore! It's all technique and those quads! I miss these guys! 👏👏👏😉😂😂👵🇺🇸
Oh, you have missed out. I am an old fart and I watched him win his Olympic gold medal in 1984. He has always been such an amazing person. True showmanship, talent and just a lovely human being.
Kurt that was sublime and awesome. You had me laughin. I've been taking a course from my good friend Tim tebow and hes really been teaching me, I wanted to express how grateful iam for you, how thankful iam for the touch you have on me, but most importantly for all your teaching me and I'm blessed to call you my spiritual older brother. I know that what I say doesn't mean anything, because words are cheap. I do mean what I say from the bottom of my heart. I love you Scott so very much
They should make skaters of today watch hours and hours of Scott Hamilton's performances. And then tell them to go out and do one of them. I dare say none of them could. The coaches should do this make them watch and copy Scott hamilton. Not that they do his performances all the time but if they would learn them and then make up their own using a lot of his techniques, wow can you imagine we'd be getting gold medals all the time at all of the different competitions. I know you can't do that anymore scott, but we sure miss you.
What in the world gave you the idea that he was mocking it? Do you was this song is about? Look up the lyrics in English. He is skating exactly how the song needs to be portrayed.
YES !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! LOVE YOU , SCOTT.............. THE BEST SKATER TO EVER HIT THE ICE.......... BRAVO !!!!!!!!!!!!!! XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
