You may know Scott Hatteberg from the Oscar-nominated baseball movie Moneyball from 2011. Chris Pratt portrays the unlikely hero of the real-life 2002 Oakland A's winning streak. But what you may not know is the real Scott Hatteberg had a much better career than just that one memorable moment...

Really he's right. If you can play catcher at the major league level you can probably play first base successfully without a whole lot of adjustment. I've seen yadier Molina move over to first base a few times over his career without issue even though he was certainly a full time catcher

Also, as a Twins fan, Brad Radke deserves a look in an upcoming video. He was an ace-level workhorse who stuck it out with some awful teams (his 20 win season in 1997 accounted for almost a third of the team's wins that year) and pitched hurt in the final two months of his career to get the Twins to another playoff berth.

Every pitch he threw caused pain, didn't they? It seemed very odd to send him out there instead of using someone who....wasn't in terrible pain.
@outsidethewaxbox
@outsidethewaxbox Год назад
@@randallwong7196 I forget exactly what the ailment was that affected him in '06. But yeah the options were for him to 1) pitch in pain or 2) to have surgery and try to come back from it the following season. But he was in his walk year and I think he decided he was done. He kept running himself out there to pitch at his insistence, and Gardy was in the "let the dogs run loose" portion of his managerial career.

What the movie left out, is that the A's WERE A GOOD TEAM aside from losing those 3. 30 teams would have killed to have Zito and Hudson in the rotation. They also had Chavez and Tejada on the side of the infield. On another note, as a lifelong Yankee fan, I still think Giambi was safe at the plate. Jeter got that call on his reputation.

I remember in the 80's and 90's the Buffalo Bills games were televised Nationally but blacked out locally because they didn't sell enough tickets. That's punishment to the fans for not buying enough tickets. It's the franchises way of saying if you want this team in your city then support it by going to the game. If not, it might leave the city entirely! Then a broadcast blackout is the least of your concerns. Hard to envision that today but in the 80's and 90's and 2000's for that matter the Bills didn't have Bills Mafia which is without question today the strongest fanbase for any NFL team.

I have a good idea for a video on an unsung player! The Seattle mariners had a shortstop named Brendan Ryan in the early 2010s. Great defense but not great with the bat. I was 14 years old and I watched almost every game of the 2012 summer, and when King Felix threw his perfect game they won 1-0 and the only run to score was Brendan Ryan from 2nd. I believe this could bring up a hypothetical argument that if that was the most important game in Seattle history that Brendan Ryan (commonly forgotten or thought of as very bad) is actually one of the most important players in franchise history.

EASILY the BIGGEST MISCONCEPTION about Moneyball is that these ideas began in 2002. All those pitchers, Chavez, Giambi, Tejada, etc. Were all acquired using the talents and evaluations of the Moneyball method WELL before 2002. It amazes me how you can be so good with numbers, yet get the over/under 500 percentage wrong. If they are sitting at 20-26 wins losses, then they are 3 games under 500, not 6 games as you stated. 20+26=46; 46 divided by 2 is 23; so, 23 wins would put them at 500, and as they are sitting on 20 wins, they are 3 games under 500, not 6.
