Spent some time there in 67 after returning from Vietnam. Loved all the beautiful people. To the sweet flower child that I met briefly, I hope life has been good to you. I'll never forget.
I was in San Francisco in fall, I will go there again to live there, and I will allways wear flowers in my hear, summer time will be a love in there, and I gonna meet some gentle people :)
I was a kid in Bangladesh (Dacca) would listen to this song on the radio....somehow it made me feel peaceful...I knew nothing about hippies in those days, but I imagined people being happy in a far away country called America.
That era changed culture and the way we think. The 1960s brought us out of the darkness and into a new light of togetherness, experimentation, music and more.
I was five, but was there in spirit......one of the most outlandishly great ballads ever penned....this is where the band panics, out of tune, and Scott's scared shitless, but still handsome as a God, so I gotta love it....
Lovely talented Mama Cass introducing John's song (yeah, Mama's & the Papa's), sung by Scott McKenzie - which topped the charts in the UK 44 years ago today. Still #1 with me.
Happy memories for me too. It wasn't perfect, but we could learn A LOT nowadays from the 'gentle people with flowers in their hair'. Non of us thought it would come to a world like this. Love and Peace.
I love the kindness of the american people (been there 5 times, my Dads american) especially in the west. (colorado- california). so many people talk open to u without hesitation, offering u help etc.. When u do that in Germany, people look you with big eyes, makes me sad. Love u USA!!
+Anthony Boreck I grew up in the 60's...and feel blessed ! It is there in your heart, though..which is very important for this superficial world we live in, now. You can spread these vibes around with your smile and appreciation of this music, and hence resurrect it....(:
Ich war knapp 7, als diese Aufnahme entstand und durch die (halbe) Welt ging, aber auch jenseits des Eisernen Vorhanges und Mauer ist uns dieser Song - wenn auch sicher später - im Gedächtnis "hängen geblieben". Ich verneige mich vor Scott Mc. Kenzie für diesen wunderschönen Song. R.I.P.
I was in Germany in 1967, and bored with Army duty there, I volunteered for Vietnam and when i came home for 30 days prior to leaving for the war I spent doing a constant love-in with my new-hippy high school friends. This song, and Light My Fire, Dylan's Everyone Must Get Stoned (sic) were popular and everyone was turning on. After hanging out with my new hippy friends I left for the war and the first thing I was asked when I got there was, "You wanna smoke a joint?" I of course said, "Yes."
I have been to San Fran 2 times this year and will spend Christmas there. I love this town, song and Sheri for showing me the best town on earth. What a great, great place to visit and a long way from Frederick, Md.
I'm 18 old, and... i remember when my father played that music in guitar just to me... And, today in day... i'm here, watching and thinking : " If was borned in that time... oh god, would be amazin". sorry for my bad english,i'm brazilian. i'm learning english, yet.

Lovely video. You can feel the spirit of the moment...
6749er I hear you, man. I liked Big Brother HC too. Sounds like you were more inside on the goings on than I, and I appreciate the strong but civil comments. I was just passing thru CA, not in the know. But, I still like this song and McKenzie's voice. Gracias, y saludos Chuy
The decade of flowers, self-expression, freedom, creativity, insanity, drugs, music, love, experimentation..the time where the ups and lows of the human spirit created an air of authentic human scent and sensitivity!
R.I.P Scott this song has happy memories for me and that don't include drugs or love ins i was living in London and 17 and a wonderful time to be alive God rest my friend xxxx
Well it is a sad thing that this beautiful moment in time was shrouded in weed and acid but the song truly captured a spiritual peace in that song. I will always love this song! They just do not make them like this anymore.
I was just turned 7 at the time in 1967 and I think that both the Monterey and Woodstock festivals paved the way for the likes of Glastonbury just saying.
@awakeningnow Well, all credit to Scott McKenzie - whom I met in a London guitar store in the 1970s...think he had a small dog with him - for holding his arm and holding his key against that dirge of a tuneless backing band - attributable to the drugs, I'm sure! A beautiful voice and song which mesmerised me as a young kid. Still does...
@DjOrlowski let's do it! Wear Flowers, Be creative, use secondhand Welcome the stranger, Be interested in their lives, share with everyone, throw away all prejudices, but stay 100% These are beatiful ideals, but times did change a bit and not everyone is in for "Love 'n' Peace" , but i would love to live the same way as they did back then. "love 'n' Peace"
Listen up. I'm 46, Black & consrevative as hell.....Yhea I know, that shit just don't go together. But on the real I love to have been of age back in that time. My mom & dad were down with the movment. I remember a whole lot of sit in at my house & a whole lot of weed. Yhea I must say, it was sum good times.
San Francisco once the mecca of the counter culture has become the mecca of the capitalists. I loved the days of The Haight -Ashbury and Hippies everywhere. Scott Mckenzie would be shocked at todays "City By The Bay" RIP Scott McKenzie We Love You
