#ScottieBarnes is one of the most unorthodox prospects in the 2021 #NBADraft. The 6’9” #FloridaState freshman has the potential to be a guard, a wing, and a big. What will his future at the next level actually look like?

@FloorandCeiling 3 года назад
There's been a lot of buzz about Scottie Barnes in the pre-draft process and, like you implied, he's probably in the conversation at the #4 pick. For me, picking him over Suggs would be a mistake. Suggs is miles better as a scorer right now (even taking into account that he has to improve there) and I'm worried about how Barnes' half-court offense will look like in the NBA. Barnes has heaps of potential with his height, length, feel, passing, and multipositional defense but if teams don't have to account for him offensively, that limits his upside.

👀Nice breakdown. Very valuable player. He’s made some ridiculous passes, he’s very strong, and when he drives to the basket, just forget it. He needs to work on Jump Shot, 3, and Free Throws. Once he nails that he is going to be very successful in the NBA.
@FloorandCeiling
@FloorandCeiling 3 года назад
Thanks for watching! I agree in terms of passing and strength (he is one of the more NBA-ready guys body wise), but his scoring really needs to develop. I worry he won’t be able to make full of use of what he’s good at if he is a complete non-threat in the half court.

What do you think has translated really well now that Barnes has played half a season in the league? For me its the offensive rebounds & 2nd chance points you doubted were flukey @ 8:20 mark. Also his 3 point shot is not great but he’s a respectable 3 point shooter shooting 31% from range. He’ll only get better from here. He’s also bullying a lot of veterans in the paint ex. Sabonis, Montrez, Myles Turner . That really surprised me but his body is NBA built so I guess it makes sense . What else has surprised you?
@FloorandCeiling
@FloorandCeiling 2 года назад
The second chance points thing translating has surprised me for sure, but I think I underestimated just how strong Scottie is and how good his feel is. His strength allows him to legit bully people off their spots, so it's easier to collect his own misses if no one is in position to contest him. Like you said, he's moving guys much bigger and older than him. The three has surprised me, if only because Scottie only shot 4 threes in one game once at Florida State. In the NBA, he's already had 13 games with 4 or more threes.

@@willbartlett243 I agree with this. Draymond is a great and versatile player, but he’a also benefited from the shooting gravity that Curry+Klay(+KD) have. @FloorandCeiling
@FloorandCeiling 3 года назад
I think everything is fixable with the right amount of time and work, but I will say that Scottie's shot probably needs a lot of retooling. It's really stiff and a long way from being effective at the NBA level. At least that's how it looked like at Florida State... maybe some major work is being done in the months between his last game for the Seminoles and his first game in the NBA. Regardless of whether the shot gets a major change or not, I'm most worried about his ability to score in the half court. He does a lot of good things with his passing, defense, and motor but I feel like Barnes tends to score on fluky-ish putbacks or wide open shots. He needs to become more versatile on this end (although a lot will also depend on how his NBA team uses him).

I’d be somewhat surprised but not totally shocked. Worth noting that Kuminga has been at Orlando Magic games lately, whatever that’s worth. Either way, both guys are the type of prospect that John Hammond tends to like but they both come with big improvement areas still. Barnes needs to prove that he can be relied on to score in a half court setting, while Kuminga’s shot doesn’t look fundamentally flawed but he really needs the percentages to catch up.

Question, if you're looking for a point forward type and you didn't land Cade, who would you feel more comfortable developing over a couple of years; Kuminga or Barnes?
@FloorandCeiling
@FloorandCeiling 3 года назад
It's tough because it depends on what I'm looking for exactly. If I am prioritizing passing, feel for the game, and defensive versatility, then Barnes has the upper hand-especially in the first two areas. But I also think that Kuminga is already a much more advanced scorer than Barnes is. I'm just really concerned about how Barnes will score productively in the half-court in the NBA because he's not particularly explosive, can't create off the dribble, and seems to get most of his buckets off rebounds or easy points. I also believe that Kuminga has defensive versatility which will always be there to be tapped into just due to his athleticism and physical gifts. If I want to win NOW, then I guess I'd go with Barnes. But if I'm looking for an all-star in 5 years, then I'd probably go Kuminga since I think he has an easier way there.

He’s very fluid, his short shorts 🩳 & long arms make him look awkward but his movements has me very excited.. When he develops a 16-20 ft jumper he will be so in-guardable. U know the Kawhi hard dribble to the right/left pull up jumper.He has the explosiveness & def the coordination, with elite nba trainers he’s gonna be soo good. Suggs would of been good as well but Suggs will always be a 6’4 thin PG,Barnes can be a 6’9 Pointguard Triple Double machine if he wants it..Also I believe he will be on a all defensive team within 3 years. He seems to want it more then most on that end, he has the Raptor mentality, lead by example. If Lowry re-signs, then this pick would be a no brainer over Suggs.
