O flower of Scotland When will we see your like again That fought and died for Your wee bit hill and glen And stood against him Proud Edward's army And sent him homeward Tae think again Those days are passed now And in the past they must remain But we can still rise now And be the nation again That stood against him Proud Edward's army And sent him homeward Tae think again
I'm English and this is probably the best National anthem in the world. Love Scotland! Amazing country with breath taking scenery and inspiring History. ❤🏴
Oh, complicated question ;) Born in Germany, father German, mother French of Armenian descent. Well, my grandmother's familiy is partly Irish, that's the closest to Scottish that I get ;)
Welsh and proud of it but the Scottish anthem makes the hair on the back of my neck stand on end, likewise the Irish one. Must be a Celtic thing. 🏴 🏴 🇮🇪
I'm English but have the blood of the Scottish running through my veins and I get goosbumps everytime. There is something raw and emotional and beautiful always.
My dads side where all Scots from the borders although He died at 26 I was born in England my heart as always been in Scotland even as a kid I’m 54 now and still this is the finest national anthem in the world and fills me with absolute pride and passion for this amazing country born in England but made in Scotland 🏴🏴🏴🏴💪💪💪💪
I'm Uruguayan but I feel Scotland like my half home, the anthem and the culture is f**king great, I got the proud to live there few years ago and you great lads. Great rugby team! 🇺🇾💪🏻🏴
Can there be any country's national anthem more beautiful than this? Russia's and Germany's is also absolutely stunning to me, but at first when my father played me this song and he was in tears (my dad's the last person so shed a tear) because of how patriotic their country is when singing their anthem. Our country was once great too. I was born before I got to see the actual downfall. My father lived to see it and he fought in the military for nothing. Lost. At first I didn't even think this beautiful song could be an anthem because it was just TOO beautiful. Puts me in tears too, as well as my bf. You know you've got a beautiful anthem when it puts other countries in tears
Scottish, Welsh and Irish have the best national anthems in the world! Proud and fierce people who haven’t forgotten their Celtic heritage and make for some of the greatest warriors the world has seen!
This version's pish. Canny stand that alternative note they use for when they sing; "Tae think again", absolutely pish. Glad half the crowd got it right when the music stopped though.
My full respect to the Scottish fans, I was in the stadium and had goose bumps and I was allowed to be a guest at Celtic against Rangers an unforgettable experience you are always very welcome in Germany Best regards from the German football club Borussia Mönchen Gladbach 🇩🇪🤝🏴
Rugby to put it bluntly is 10x less passionate than its counterpart. You'll have folk that say yeah there less hatred etc. but imo sometimes hatred and proper rivalry is what drives a sport. The National anthem is sung 10x better at football cause it's shouted more than sung. Here it's sung like they're all in church! And that reflects on rugby atmosphere in general having mixed stands etc just removes an element
I had the privilege to be at this game as an England supporter. This moment was incredible - it still raises the hairs on my neck whenever I think about it. The passion and pride was magical - everything it should be from a proud nation.
Ohhhh great.I am from Pakistan but swear to God I love the scotish anthum more than my own national anthum.Every time I listen it,I get goosebumps. Love and respect
It would be nice if you could upload La Marseillaise from this afternoon. It was one of the first, if not the first, Marseillaise that rose up from Stade de France after the Paris attacks of November. For me it was a very powerful moment.
+hellsjester31 Please, man leave the politics apart from the sport. This has nothing to do with rugby. It was something terrible but please move on. The terrorists attacks of Paris are nothing compared to what the scotts suffered for centuries. And the flower of scotland is much more beautifull than "La Marseillaise" (cordially, from a frenchman).
A brilliant anthem 🙂 I'm an Irish girl and I always get a lump in my throat when I hear it 🙂 the Scots are proud people who are filled with passion and pride for their country 🙂 🏴
The Welsh and Scottish anthems, so full of history, culture and pride…. Certainly fills the heart to the brim, with love for ones country.. love them both! Greetings from Papua New Guinea.
I'm very upset that I cannot even watch the highlights here in Germany. It's bad enough, not being able to watch the games live, but at least you used to be able to catch up on the games here. How would that be violating anybody's proprietary rights? Might as well just give up on Six Nations...
+Matthew Luckman Thanks for all your reactions. I live in Germany, so I can't legally access the iPlayer (would have to use a proxy, which technically violates proprietary rights...). And (thanks scujim) I don't live anywhere close to Düsseldorf, though we do have a Sky Sports Bar in town. I don't think that they get the rugby games, though they do get Premiere League Football. It seems, however, that somebody heard my complaint, as they have now uploaded accessable highlights compiliations.
I remember a few years back I was down at my (English) sister-in-law's place and she took me to her local that was showing the Scotland vs England rugby match. I walked in toa scene of St George's crosses everywhere. Unbeknownst to the crowd, I had a Scotland rugby Jersey and Kilt on beneath my coat. As the te came for the anthems, I dropped my coat, put on my Glengarry and belted out "O Flower of Scotland " The reception was EPIC ! The English reckoning I was "supremely brave" to belt out my national anthem in a pub full of "foreigners "
Really late to the party but I too think this is probably the greatest national anthem rendition of all time. Good luck to the Scots today and all Euros long.
As a Englishman I get really jealous of other countries anthems. Scotland, Wales Ireland and the French ( to name a few ) have brilliant anthems that get the blood pumping. Listening to the French come together as one to proudly shout out their anthem, proud of their history is a sight you remember once experienced. I think our monarchy is a outdated institution and should be abolished. How can I sing that with any conviction. The Scots are abused in later verses yet are expected to sing proudly if representing GB . I have watched England play cricket many times and Jerusalem sang before play makes me proud . It's time Jerusalem was adopted by all English bodies and a national anthem we can all get behind for Britain introduced.
Im English but this has gotta be the most patriotic National Anthem ever, Gives me goosebumps, Can't help thinking what England's would be is it wasnt God save the King
I’m Australian and cook islander, and this is probably the good anthem in the world of the 3rd representative country, love Scotland, I have representing 3 countries
I'm Welsh and our anthem just hits me hard everytime, but this is just sensational, I love it. I hope you guys get your independence, there's no better time than yesterday. Araf deg mae mynd ymhell.
Lol, the "celtic" myth that was cooked up in the mid 20th century to give a false idea of identity even though most scientists have concluded that ALL parts of the British Isles, including England have very similar DNA? Alright then, carry on believing that rubbish.
I recently when to the Welsh National Stadium and it was Crap hoped for better no one sang the Anthem and they are talking over it the atmosphere was Crap the Scots are the best at atmosphere
Alternative Lyrics: ''We all are drunkards, on the park bench, spending our dole, We're fu-uucking drunkards, With 99p a cider, so flat and warm We are fucking drunkards, we spending our dole money, on the city park bench. Just like Rab C. Nesbitt. We're Fu-ucking Druuuunkards, On the park bench.'' I thank you !
This version is much more better. Hark when the night is falling Hear! Hear the pipes are calling, Loudly and proudly calling Down thro' the glen. There where the hills are sleeping, Now feel the blood a-leaping, High as the spirits Of the old Highland men. Towering in gallant fame, Scotland my mountain hame, High may your proud standards Gloriously wave! Land of my high endeavour, Land of the shining river, Land of my heart for ever, Scotland the brave. High in the misty Highlands, Out by the purple islands, Brave are the hearts that beat Beneath Scottish skies. Wild are the winds to meet you, Staunch are the friends that greet you, Kind as the love that shines From fair maidens' eyes. Far off in sunlit places, Sad are the Scottish faces, Yearning to feel the kiss Of sweet Scottish rain. Where tropic skies are beaming, Love sets the heart a-dreaming, Longing and dreaming For the homeland again
