Hello folks!

Welcome back to What’s For Tea :) and today for tea I made these wonderful steak and gravy pies :) I’m using ready rolled pastry, but if you make good pastry…feel free to use your own :) I’m no pastry chef, so I prefer to use ready made :)
These are so tasty, I highly recommend you give these a go! These are so rich…that’s the red wine! If you don’t want to use red wine, just use more beef stock :)
Everything I used will be mentioned below incase you want to make it for yourself. Thanks for stopping by,
-Cheryl x
____________________________________________________________________
What I used (makes 4 individual pies)
1 .5 lb (24oz) Braising steak/Casserole steak/chuck steak - cut into chunks
1 Onion - Diced
2 Garlic cloves - Chopped
2 Tablespoons plain/all purpose flour
200ml (7 fl oz) Beef stock/broth
400ml (13.5 fl oz) Red wine (I used Merlot)
1 Tablespoon tomato puree/paste
1 Tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
2 Bay leaves (optional)
Olive oil for frying
Salt & Pepper to taste
1 Sheet ready made shortcrust pastry (for the pie cases)
1 Sheet ready made puff pastry (for the pie lids)
1 Beaten egg

I made these this evening and they’re fantastic! So homey and comforting! I will be including them in a Scottish meal that I’m bringing to my father- he’s not very connected with his Scottish roots. I think I’ll ease him in with the pies! That’s a start!

I made this recipe today and it was the best pie I've ever eaten! It was such a rich flavoursome filling and the house smelt awesome. Thank you for teaching me 🙂.

@@mrsapplez2007 The Three Towns - Saltcoats, Ardrossan and Stevenston - my parents both come from there, and we would travel up from London each year to visit my grandparents. Beautiful part of the world! These pies look amazing - I would probably use a dark ale or stout instead of red wine, but that's just personal preference.

@@richardmurray4605 def change to stout and nothing better than a good pie. It really is beautiful there. It's been 10 years or more since I've last been, prob all changed now and modernised. Going tp check Google maps and have a look.

I was thinking it was going to be like pot pies, but this is even better with the mash and string beans! I might try it with peas, carrots and cubed potatoes too! Your voice reminds me of my grandmother from Manchester. Good cook also!

The second time I made these, I used sliced lamb steaks in lamb gravy, I have to say it made a delicious alternative. Shades of your scotch pie but chunks of meat! Love your pages they give me all sorts of ideas, but I always try them as you demonstrate them first.

Oh Yum! These remind me of a childhood favorite my family would stop and get when traveling through Butte Montana. Irish Beef Pasties.

Guinness actually does work better why well it's down to the flavours. It's much closer to a beef stock than red wine and you can leave out the stock and use all Guinness which gives you just as rich a filling only with a slight bitter note and that's fab.. It'll make you salivate while eating and wanting more. This is Irish in nature but stout has been brewed in many other countries so try a different one say from England or wherever each will bring a slightly different note to the table.. This is cooking just have fun and experiment :-)
