Hiya, firstly thanks for your recepies. I'm not a kitchen person, but I've been trying some things out. Your Carmel Shortbread worked out brillant, love it ! I've tried to make these scones, but they didn't rise as much as yours. I made them with plain flour and a packet of baking powder 18gr. Do I need more baking powder ? I live in Spain and it's not so easy to get self-raising flour. I would love to hear from you. It's great listening to your lovely accent, I still miss Scotland so much. Thanks

Back in the 60s I had occasions to stay in Newton Stewart many times. Always on the Breakfast Table there were Scones. Not sweet ones - just plain, homemade and still warm. Delicious they were! (perhaps with a touch of Bicarb?) What would be the recipe? I've always wondered. BTW waiting for my butter to soften for this recipe while typing here - hence the memory.

Is clotted cream, like whip cream., good looking scones.
@WhatsForTea
@WhatsForTea 4 года назад
From Wikipedia :D Clotted cream is a thick cream made by indirectly heating full-cream cow's milk using steam or a water bath and then leaving it in shallow pans to cool slowly. During this time, the cream content rises to the surface and forms "clots" or "clouts"
@susie2251
@susie2251 4 года назад
If you are in the US and can’t get it, the closest substitute is butter to be honest. It’s thick and spreadable like butter and not light and airy like whipped cream.

Not a complaint, more of a request, since self raising flour is not as readily available where I am, but could you give the amount of baking powder you'd add if it was 8 ozs of plain flour, please? Here in Canada we have many more all purpose flour and baking powder recipes, and I've checked many a time, and there are so many different amounts of baking powder to flour ratios suggested that it makes you nervous to even try baking anything. I'm from Tyneside and grew up with scones every Sunday, and bought ones aren't the same. A nice reliable recipe I could use more than once would be such a pleasure. 😊 Thank you.

Here, in the US, our scones will not rise very high no matter what steps we take to give it additional height. American scones are quite flat. Any hints?

I always believed sultanas (the brown ones) were from white grapes, but raisins (the black ones) were red grapes, is this not the case? Anyhoo, you can make your sultanas extra plump & juicy by steeping them in warm water for a few hours before use😋😍👍
