I can certainly relate to this video. After using a Newport style blade for decades, I switched to the Scotty Cameron Futura 5.5M with the shorter neck and additional toe flow. It’s easier to gauge the speed on longer puts and the head tracks beautifully if you just let it swing.
@uwrossl
@uwrossl 5 лет назад
Found the exact same thing for me in the Phantom 5.5. I feel like I just have to start it moving and it swings itself. Lag putting got significantly better and feel like I can't miss from 5-7 feet in. Always felt like I was adjusting my stroke to the putter before and therefore highly inconsistent. After getting fit it's unbelievable having the putter fit my stroke and making it repeatable every time.

Good video. I never fully realised the implications of changing length or the significance of neck design. Have been thinking of having a proper putter fitting for the first time; may well do that now.

Excellent fit session. I learned a lot. I purchased an original Ping Anser in 1965 (Scottsdale) that is currently sitting next to me. "A good deal of toe hang". I also have an original Newport. Tomorrow I am going to the putting green and figure out why I have always liked both. Thanks for the fitting session. Bob Smith 1 handicap, 6 Feet 5 Inches Tall, 73 Years Old.

Love owning a few Scotty’s, but they sit in my office as decoration because other companies have passed them from a technology perspective. James you should try the stoke lab putter the stroke lab shaft and micro hinge really works... if anyone likes that but wants the best get the Evnroll and get the BGT stability shaft or the Bobby Grace with the same shaft

Been a mallet putter for years, and got the Futura 6M last year. Thought it would solve all my issues but no dice. Couldn’t get over how it looked at address. Went through a proper fitting about a month ago and went through all brands and ended up settling on the Scotty squareback 1.5. Would not have even considered this putter if i was just testing stuff off the rack. Glad I went through the proper fitting, and love my confidence on the greens. Still can’t sink a 3’ putt under pressure to save my life.

Rick Shiels sold me on Evnroll ER2 which I just bought. Have had a couple of Ping Anser 2s & have owned 3 Scotty SS Newport 2s. The Scotty was the best, however I get the itch to trade it for something new every year. BTW, which putter did James select? I do not like mallets.

The Phantom 5.5 is hands down the most consistent Scotty I’ve used, and his best grip to date. Rhe 5.5 has a great feel, and he nailed it with the sound. “Tingy” not clunky like the previous aluminum offerings. Oh, and the headcover is gorgeous.

I can't say that I have ever been a Scotty Cameron fan, so my answer would be, "none of the above" I went for a Putter fitting a few months ago, with the intention of getting an EvnRoll Putter. But in the fitting, the Putter that worked best for me was the Odyssey Stroke Lab EXO Maxman. I have always had an issue setting the Putter face square to the target at address, (what I think is square is actually open (aiming left). The alignment lines on top of the EXO MAXMAN really helped me to get the face aligned correctly. Another major factor with Putters is LOFT, too little loft and the Ball doesn't get above the grass (digs in) whilst too much loft and the Ball will bounce and won't roll correctly, the speed of the Greens that you Putt on will also be a factor to how much loft you need. The Fitter established that the correct Loft for my Putter should be 3deg and I have to say that I am now getting a much better roll on my Putts.

Currently using the Newport 3, which you should have tried. Any Scotty that uses a "Del Mar" style head, along with anything 1.5 or 2.5, will have the most toe hang of any Scotty. Always thought I was a face-balanced guy until I got my hands on a Del Mar. The Studio 3 is just a Del Mar with a deeper putter head.
@MrAndrewThompson

I heard you mention your 5ft 9 at the end. I am 5ft 10 and I cant putt consistently with anything less than a 35” putter. I have learnt so much about putters lately. Grips, arcs, Toe hangs, weights, dual balance. I found the spider x to be the most consistent putter out there. The weight distribution in it gives the ability to swing in a pendulum motion and I just love it. Sure I don’t make every putt in one but it’s all about how the putter looks as you look down the shaft and how it feels as you hit the ball. I’ve tried loads of Scotty Cameron’s and unless your using a 5-10 yr old Scotty (which are awesome) just stick with your spider x 😜

I use a Ping B60 with 34 inch shaft which a few years ago cost me £75 fitted. The only other putter I own is an original Ping Zing (35 inch shaft). The shaft length and mallet style head made big difference to my putting. The SC approach was very interesting but it still comes down to how it looks and feels particularly on varied lengths of putt and different speed greens at different courses. Practice, practice, practice!! Great Vid

Picking a putter for the looks and how it feels is not a very technical way to fit a putter : ' yeah, I may have missed that putt by two foot but doesn't it look nice!' What any good Yorkshireman should do (and me too) is get fitted for the Scotty and say 'I'll have to think about it' and go find the manufacturer with the same style of putter for a lot less money!

Maybe u can try which I was just told on the golf course last weekend is the butt of you putter should be more foward and lock the left wrist. The butt of your club is back which means your hitting up on the ball and not getting a consistent roll. Just something you could try!!
@thehairygolfer
@thehairygolfer 5 лет назад
Well first you need to figure if your stroke suits a face balanced, toe balanced or 50/50 weighted putter and once discovered you shouldn't change out of that type. But personally the price of a scotty is too much for a lump of metal on a stick with 7deg of loft. Manufacturers have conned us into thinking something costing £250 or more is what we need and we need it right now. You would putt equally well with a piece of driftwood with a stick stuck in it. I might make one.......
