I’ve seen you make crumpets a few times but still have yet to make them. Thank you for the reminder. Only had store bought ones in the past but your recipe is no doubt far superior. No reminder for slathering the butter necessary. First time I had crumpets it was intuitive. They are full of holes. I love butter. The solution was apparent.

Crumpets having originated in Wales may not mean they're only Welsh; as an avid amateur historian, one must take into account that Wales (Cymru) and Cumbria (Cumbria) are both _the same root name. These places_ were actually _one_ before the great Anglo-Saxon migration. We have few records dating to the 5th Century, and more but not enough in 865, in time for the Danelaw and the Great Heathen Army, certainly less around cuisine, and so one _could_ assume that Crumpets and Pikelets were a part of the Brythonic & Brittonic diet. Brythonic, meaning British Celts and Brittonic meaning Romano-Celts. So, here in Hen Ogledd, the people on these lands may well have made Pikelets too. It's just Wales kept this tradition alive, or was the first to have it written down, so its' commonly accepted origin may trace from there. Either that, or I'm wrong, and Pikelets and Crumpets were invented after the Anglo-Saxon migration, or the Danelaw, or both, and truly are a Welsh food in their origin, but with the lack of historical written record about Brythonic culture, tis hard to say.

OMG! Here in the US, I can get crumpets at Trader Joe’s but NOT like the likes of those! WOW! I miss them after growing up in Canada, but they’re not that great here. I’m stuck here salivating, boo hoo… Masterful job Keef!

I made crumpets once. I won’t be doing it again. Such a faff. It’s so much easier and cheaper to nip up the co op and buy some in. I love a crumpet as the perfect vessel for a ton of butter and I chuffing love butter, but I won’t ever make crumpets again.
