This thing is killer! But doesn´t it grinds a taper into everything you grind on it? If you turn the handle on the screw for the height adjustment, the magnetic chuck will only raise on that side and will therefore tilt a little.
@BIGDOGFORGE
@BIGDOGFORGE 4 года назад
The contact wheel is round so the plain stays the same it just gets closer it does not grind a taper. Thanks for watching

@thomasarussellsr

Okay, I get it now on how it still grinds flat. The very bottom of the wheel only touches so the linear movement is still running true even on a tilt. For some reason I was picturing the belt running a flat surface, not just the contact wheel end contacting the material to be ground. Awesome job, Tim. I suppose you could call it "Kate" from Kate Moss, she's pretty flat, but still looked good in her outfit in the "Matrix" movie trilogy .

Looks like one great machine and the fact you made this from mostly scrap completely astounds me! I am most definitely jealous of your ability to use your finger and punch a hole through steel you should teach us the way! And the #Blacksmithsknotchallenge mentioned in the live stream is something I started to challenge everyone to tie a knot out of steel.

Time, money, and floor space never seem to increase when you need it. I think most of us battle with the too small of a shop we quickly outgrow. Not to mention man's age old conundrums of "I can build it or buy it, if I had the money or the parts", the frequent "do I have the time to build it?" quickly followed by the biggest problem of where am I going to put it once I have it. It is a vicious cycle made worse when you can't afford land or money to expand you shop. Nice job on your grinder, do you have an update on how it has held up?
@MrToolmaker23
@MrToolmaker23 5 лет назад
Hi Tim. You said you need a name for your surface grinder. It's got a magnetic chuck so how about "Margaret" which could be shortened to "Maggie". Yes. I know. It's corny. Work safe.

Hello, new sub here. I'm gonna have to look at your other sander videos. I buy at Amazon sometimes. How would I support your channel that way? You should put an actuator or a wiper motor type back and forth mechanism on "Manuel". He will tire you quickly.

I do tell any one that sees it that I copied yours. I really enjoy all your videos and have learned a lot from them keep up the great job.

Outstanding build. I definitely prefer to watch you and your projects over Alex Steele any day. He is okay, but a bit flighty for my taste. He doesn't have nearly the experience you do in solving the various problems that come up in a Black Smiths shop. I wish I could give you two thumbs up.

Does having height adjustment on one end like you do make the piece you are grinding impossible to lay flat? The thicker the metal the more of an angle the table/magnet would be?? Or am I wrong?
