"Like button" ever so gently caressed. I got so fixated on electric guitars myself that I kinda forgot that acoustics existed. Well, not really, but seeing the posts on this has made me think about maybe getting an acoustic kit at some point once I've burned through my backlog of electric kits.

They’re fun, but I will be making the switch back to electrics one this one is in the books.

Just got an ES 175 style archtop for my birthday. Beautiful guitar. Vintage voiced humbuckers, gold hardware, trapeze tailpiece and a florentine cutaway. Finished in Arctic White. My dream guitar.

I was in the piano and antique restoration business for over 40 years spraying and have refinished over 100 grand pianos with nitrocellulose lacquer i have never had a problem of lacker cracking and i wet sand every peace i ever done but you're right about spraying too heavy lacker can do some strange things such as pitting or seperating you want to spray it wet enough to flow out but not so wet as to pile up 2 light coats are always better than 1 heavy one if you add a small amount of retarder to your lacker it will flow out a little better on the last cople of finishing coats though it will slow down drying I would not recommend putting the guitar in the case until it has dried about 2 weeks or when you can no longer smell it when putting your nose up to it if you can smell it it is gassing and still drying also never let the finish come in cotact with plastic or foam rubber or any sort of rubber there will be a chemical reaction one case in point a customer called me to come out at there new Kitenger dinning table that they payed $10,000 for in the 70s yeah im old lol she had laid plastic grapes on the table for decoration tthey melted down into the lacker all lackers are not created equel either in my opinion to Sherwin-Williams makes the best lackers Sherwin-Williams cab acrylic is some really tough stuff you can spray it on a oak board several goats take a hammer and hit it you will not marr the Finish you will dent the wood try that with any other lacker just follow directions on the bucket when using I used it on table tops especialy

The bit of binding flake flying off the top when you started to spray made me laugh! Good job I'd didn't land in the wet lacquer. Its looking great Brad for sure and loving the vintage look. Bet its gonna sound great just having a thin nitrocellulose finish. And in 20 years it's gonna look even better when it's aged and started to crack! Good work mate.

As usual it's looking really good Brad. I have a Gibson SG kit on the way and I want to paint it rose red like they used to make them and I'm a little nervous about painting because I'm going to set up my filters and my gun and that's what I'm going to use now I have a question. If it is already nice and smooth do I need to put a primer on it before I paint the red and I want to put nice clear that I got from crazy cans that has hardener in it when you pull a pin on the bottom it breaks another container inside and the hardener is released works really really good something you might want to check out their out of Florida but they get them what they sell from the UK but like I said do you think I need to primer the body and the back of the neck or can I just spray right over the wood because I don't want to cover up the grain anymore than I have to. I'm using talk-to-text so I hope some of the right words were printed and you can make sense of what I'm saying LMAO but I do like the job you're doing on the acoustic I have never done one either
@BradAngove
@BradAngove 2 года назад
Normally you would want to start with a clear sealer otherwise there’s a chance your paint will soak into the wood somewhat. Aside from that though there’s no real need for a primer. Paint generally doesn’t have difficulty sticking to sanded wood.

Looking good!! Would you do the same process for a black acustic guitar? I found an old Fender acustic that I’m trying to restore. Thanks Brad!

@@BradAngove I wish… I started sanding it and got down to the wood (looks like cheap laminate). I only sanded the back and sides to be safe lol. Did I bite off more than I can chew?
@BradAngove
@BradAngove 2 года назад
Shouldn’t be that bad. If the black is gone it’s the same process as what I did here if that’s the finish you’re looking for.

@@BradAngove I've sprayed many things . Sometimes things that like wood , don't like plastic and refuse to dry , or they bubble etc. All good though . I will trust your expertise 👍🏼
@BradAngove
@BradAngove Месяц назад
Yeah, paint doesn’t like plastic usually, but over a small plastic binding I’ve never had a problem.

As always, very nice work. Quick question, Can I apply clear coats over a guitar with already dried enamel spray paint? I couldnt apply the clear coats the same day and its already fully dry, Should I lightly sand it with 600grit for mechanical adhesion or sand the whole thing and start over? Im going for a relic finish after the clear coats are fully cured so not getting a top professional glossy is not an issue.
@BradAngove
@BradAngove 2 года назад
Are you sure it’s enamel? Generally it is difficult to find clear that works properly with enamel.
@SUMIRESBROADCAST
@SUMIRESBROADCAST 2 года назад
@@BradAngove I bought a shell pink can, it says on the label "enamel rust eliminator" with a "pink" sticker, and the clear is from the same brand, Same label and the sticker says "Lacquer". The brand is "Federal FDL" canada. The shell pink isnt fully cured yet after 24 hours, so its probably enamel.
@BradAngove
@BradAngove 2 года назад
I’d test it out on something before using it on your project. Lightly sanding with 800 and then clear coating would be the typical process, but lacquer and enamel usually aren’t compatible.

@georeed62
@georeed62 2 года назад
I meant to say I was thinking about using some of this high-dollar stain I have I'm pretty sure I have read and see what it comes out like. Might put black on 1st and rub it off real quick and this supposed to bring this the wood grain out doesn't it? What is the trick they use to show off the wood? What is that procedure that they use that the wood grain will show through another color of stain? I'm not sure how they do that and that was a nice answer about mentioning somebody else's product on your channel hahahaha talk to you next time Brad glad Jane care of yourself man I get to fly out and see my grandchildren and my children the 3rd of May to the 17th of May man I cannot wait till turns Grand Junction Colorado and then I turn 60 in June that really sucks dude I'll talk to you later cheers
@BradAngove
@BradAngove 2 года назад
I think the method you’re thinking of is staining, letting it dry, and then sanding it back so only the more open grain stays stained.
