The way you get the steel thread inserts out is via an acetylene torch for 30 seconds or hit it with a chop grinder. I recommend having a pile of them ready to go before doing so.
I've been refurbishing this equivalent meter in Australia for the past 16 years. I feel your pain. Taking body screws off before taking of index lense?? using pliers to pull the brass shaft through.... it has a thread, just undo it! Pretty cool to see the temperature compensator though, never come across one for that model here
I'd keep the meter part with the dials. Looks kind of fun to spin. Those bellows kind of look like a speaker. I wonder if they sound any good. Boomin bass.
Great video Mike. Yes, you can get these on eBay. I have about eight or nine of that size you scraped for sale and over 100 of the residential size for sale on eBay. All new. If the contractor would like my eBay store information please let me know. Thanks
I recently scrapped a vintage coin-operated gas meter. it had a lovely clockwork and switching mechanism all made from brass (so magnets wont slow down the meter!)
i always wonder how much time people waste doing nothing like watching tv or movies which is not worth anything but taking five minutes to make a few cents is a waste of your time and not worth it .....my dad always told me you have to make a nickel to make 100 bucks .....he meant that it all adds up them nickels become dollars and he must of known something when he died in 1999 he had 2.75 million in worth
