A lot of the scratches that are being taught I've been doing forever but never had a name to associate with them. because, I basically was just having fun and did them by accident. I started at the age of 13 and im still loving the whole aspect of djing at the age of 54...

Man I'm exactly the same. Doing the reverse og with tears got that down. DJ throwdown vid showed me that. Now my og flares have gone away. And having tumble doing 2 tears forward anyway! I think practicing tears forward and backwards is a good way to make it easier. Saying that I still cant do them. Just keep doing 2 click flares! Need to do more pratice at what I'm not good at lol

Ahh, I've not seen that vid, interesting. But, I know the feeling dude. It's hard to practice what you're not good at. But that's where we should be spending 80% of our time according to a book I read. I think it was "Talent is Overrated". Basically, he said something like, the best are only the best because they practice way more than everyone else and are better at staying at the edge of their comfort zone whilst practicing. Really easy tutorial to follow. I wouldn't call it a tear tho because you actually click the fader.. U explained it well anyways.

Its just such a slight difference. since its only the pitch really that makes the difference. If you close the fader volume goes down just like if you slow down the record. and the deeper the pitch the less you notice pitch difference, too. I tried it with high pitch notes and at fast speeds there is almost no audible difference. just like if you do high speed tears they are almost like a click. If you count in the click delay on top of it. I bet you cut out around 50% of the tear pitch time anyways because its still too low even at lower speeds. on high speed I guess you speed up the record probably around the same time duration that you take to fully open your fader. But maybe my audio quality is just shitty.

If you click the fader whilst on a record change it's called a ghost click. It only slightly changes the sound vs a tear with no click. It's to do with how different record and cross-fader patterns intersect over time as you repeat them. It's the same for chirps when you think about it. You technically don't have to click on the change of direction on a chirp, but it does affect the sound and allows for developement of many other patterns.

It's a blury line really when it comes to tears. As you know moving the record at a change speed in one motion is considered tearing. Q always explains this skratch technic prizm with tears in it as that's what makes it sound the way it does. The clicks clean it up other wise it sounds too continues and a bit wobbly lol

I always find it very frustrating trying to scratch. My arm eventually goes numb and it sounds like shit. I mix U.K. Hard House 150bpm+ maybe this is a factor in trying to find a rhythm against such a tempo. 🤷‍♀️

Don't forget you can half time it so you'd be at 75 to 80 bpm. Still not the easiest tempo to be fair, especially as there's not a lot of rhythms to play with. I started scratching on similar music and ended up practicing over other music just to get it down. Eventually I started DJing that other music because I ended up preferring it believe it or not!

Are you left or right handed? I started weak hand on the record and am way too far along to start over but it's really hard to get decent tears down with the weak hand!

Yup I'm right handed. I started the same way like you too. Tears really are are the hardest thing to get in this configuration. They do come eventually though.

Good vid my friend. But, I'd like to point out at -6:04 you say, "that's weird I actually start closed and pull back" this is where you realize your mistake by calling the front half of the prism a reverse OG flare. Because it's not. What do I mean? Well, you re-introduce the reverse OG again with a tear, yet this time you push the record forward and 2 click on the back(regular tear), which was completely different than anything you describe previously regarding the OG flare. In conclusion, I think you meant to say.. The Prism is a REGULAR TEAR(straightforward/tear back) link to a OG FLARE(tear forward/straight back) Lastly, I would go more in-depth about what you mean by "ghost clicks" or you're going to leave your beginner scratchers hanging. Otherwise, great video, I got your point.

I think you're right, for some reason I started showing the reverse OG flare on the pullback when I should obviously have started at the start of the scratch. The concept remains the same though, they are OG flares mirrored by and OG flares. That's really referring to the clicks, as neither of those scratches has tears in them originally. Sure, if you want to think about the record movements, you can talk about tears vs reverse tears, but I wanted to present the scratch in a different way that might help it click for certain people. You'll also notice I labeled the video "advanced scratch tutorial". So, this wasn't really aimed at beginners. I have been thinking of doing a vid on ghost clicks to be fair, as they're not something you come across until later on generally. Thanks for your feedback though, appreciate it.
