My nephew here in the UK studied sound engineering a production at college - it brought a big smile to my face when he told me one of the modules he took involved the works of Lee Perry.
This clip contains one of the best pieces of musical history ever caught on film IMO! I still haven't found any evidence that this tune was actually released but I'm still hoping... The whole Roots Rock Reggae series is filled with amazing musical moments that would have been nothing but legends hadn't it been for the eager camera of Jeremy Marre. All respects to Mr. Marre for this and all the rest of his extensive work on great music outside the mainstream
RIP legend...you inspired me so much in many different ways...i'll be always thankful i had the chance to see you live at lesst once...stay high my friend
It's a blessing to know Lee Scratch was committed to coordinating group work with studio excellence. Reggae was shaped in the studio. Bravo to the man. MHSRIP.
@3:24 when the middle vocalist did that hot step on the “won’t you?!” I felt that in my soul... I coulda very well been right there in the studio with them.
this is priceless , all of the documentaries i've seen on the orgins and hstory of jamaican music have been done by forigners , this music was looked down upon by jamaicans who lived above torrington bridge , AND NOW......
Goosebumps as they fade the music and away from the ark and start showing the political posters.....realizing the political and economic hell they were all living through,...this beautiful music being made RIGHT in the midst of the madness of those times in jamaica...especially KIingston
If only we had more like Scratch - I am sorry if I offend anyone but I can't stand what happening to Reggae music now. I wish all these newbies artists/producers would realise that its is called Reggae music for a reason.
The phaser is Mu-tron bi-phase. These usually have a blue or purple finish but I think came with white sheet that could be laid over showing preset settings. In this vid he is using the Super Phasing sheet but there were others like stereo and two speed.
You nailed! The gear is blue/gray but factory sent PAPER ONLAYS with stock configs....those paper onlays are white with red finish. Just like u saw in the vid
too bad they never released this song... I heard it was for some kind of commercial. Cool to see the congos singing backup. Irie riddim, true black ark sound.
Wow! I really get this guy, as I'm sure any sound engineer would. Clear procedures..... Being in the studio is intimidating for a lot of musicians, I like Lee's style.
Been looking for this song for decades. Got tired of waiting. Just effin' around one day with some viddy footy from the ROOTS ROCK REGGAE docu and Ableton Live. For some reason I can't post the direct link so just search - Lee Perry Play On Mr Music boomshot rebuild
Also if ya dig and enjoyed this video 😀 you may also enjoy the reggae band Christafari and they are really groovy folks and friends and hope ya check out their music and also the song " Most of All " By Glenn Kaiser and Where Roses Grow Live by Rez Band Awesome songs check them out. I remember hearing the song by Led Zepp " In My Time of Dyin " during my drug years and made me think about death and Jesus. Then a hippy friend that dug Jesus told me more of Jesus love and forgiveness and how I could also know Jesus love. So in 1981 I cried out to Jesus and wow man He came into my life and I had and have so much joy and peace and now know that through Jesus when I die I will be with Him in Heaven. Hey Jesus loves each of you also and yall can know Him if you are at all open. Just cry out to Him and a good question to ask yourself if you were to die today would you go to heaven ? And if yes why ? To find out more please read the Gospel of John in the Bible or check out the movie on RU-vid. 😀
@MisterPinkNoTip It's probably a Mutron. Lee was always using the Mutron. I have never seen one like the phaser in this clip though. Everytime I watch this clip, I'm shivering with good vibes. Too bad they never released that track.
Yes its a BI PHASOR MUTRON, blue/gray colour, but Perry is using some stock PAPER ONLAY to proper adjust the settings. Thus you see the mutron in white/red colour....its just one paper onlay
