RIP....a true legend. Keith Richards once said of him "More than a producer, he knows how to inspire the artist’s soul. Like Phil Spector, he has a gift of not only hearing sounds that come from nowhere else, but also translating those sounds to the musicians. Scratch is a shaman."
He's probably one of the most unique & bizarre (not in a bad way) mythical figures in the whole history of Dub & Reggae. Even if you don't know Dub & Reggae & you like other music, you probably know his name.
@@jacktack77 you would know all about these issues you raise.. look within and you will find that which you see in others. Expel it and move on, or it will eat away at your soul.
Seen this weasel interview Robert Downey Jr. Makes for an interesting watch and insight into what sort of person the interviewer is. I suggest you watch it.
@@burnsloads Seriously? The Taxi gang too? The Revolutionaries? The Aggrovators? The mighty roots Radics? The Skatalites? The Dub Sydicate? The Wackies? The great Misty in Roots? Aswad? Steel Pulse? The Burning Band? .... All cheap imitations? Have you even been to a reggae concert?
Why, on earth, would Martin Bashir think he could handle Lee "scratch" Perry😅. He was clearly deluded. Scratch, was like an mad uncle to me. Met him in Jamaica 1977, on school holiday. He was close friends with my Grandfather. Scratch and his lady, taught me how to make gungu peas soup, with a few other Jamaican earthy dishes, not really made anymore. I will always remember him, coming to knock for me, to come out and tour Jamaica. That was the best 6 weeks holiday ever. ❤😢
Lee Scratch Perry singing himself to "I'm an old man but I'll never get old" it's the epitome and personification of his life, 💚💛❤️ much love king wherever you are
I would love to just sit and be around this guy. Just hear him talk about the studio and anything really. He's just as much of a legend as Bob. Much respect to those working behind the scenes ! Love.
Saw Scratch live in D.C. years ago. Don’t know if the Music amazed me most, or just being in the same room with him. Truly amazing man. I’ll Never forget it...
This interviewer is a straight lunatic. This Man help created reggae music, the Spiritual music. This interview is appreciated by I and many many others.Long live the Legend of Reggae Music Lee "Scratch" Perry 🙏🌍🇺🇸🇯🇲🇹🇹🇻🇮
Scratch is a one off original Genius, and any artist and musician who has worked with him will testify this. at 80 years of age in March 2016 he was with Coxone at Studio One, he had the Legendary Black Ark Studio, and is still touring, when so many have passed.
His productions during the Black Ark years are truly astonishing, especially considering the equipment he had at his disposal. The Brian Wilson of reggae
like 2 persons from two different worlds communicating. i feel like us, who are not from jamaica cant understand the art and the craft, that geniuses like perry put in their music! R.I.P. to the legend LSP
@@buelroberts3759 There will be NO blunts in the Kingdom of GOD! "Receive ye the Holy Ghost:" John 20:22b! NOT a suggestion! Obedience is THE spiritual experience!
"Do you think I am crazy? I am crazy!" That was his moment of clarity. But yeah, in a chaotic world one might as well embrace the chaos instead spending time in and time out to make a chaos repelling umbrella. Fuck, I'm starting to speak like him now!
Lee Scratch Perry is and will remain a spiritual legend with a golden heart ... he's one of my all-time favorites ..... now he's playing his music in heaven with his best friends .... happy birthday .... nobody dies, we all live forever, there is a come and go, we forget everything that we have created here in the past, that's life ......., and start all over again .... ., there is always only you and God, so why should one fight! ...... We send love into all hearts, forgive all those who are greedy, exercise power and make all positive healthy people sick with their dark doings, they have forgotten what their mission is ..... So they all have chose the dark side and does not find the way back into the light alone .... because the demon knew exactly what he was doing ........ that is why you signed in trust in ignorance so that you can own everything .. .. you have everything, autos wealth and power to keep ... only what you have overlooked is ........ under the signature is exactly what his conditions are ..... in very tiny small letters written .... that you can not find it with the largest magnifying glass .... the demon is happy and again he has a soul light that is prolonged in life ...... he is certain that he will win ..... He knows your weaknesses and you have agreed, he only wants your soul light that keeps him alive, nothing more ...... Die Truth is a plant and no matter how deep you have buried it, it will come to light one day ....... I am fully aware of what I am writing here, God's will is done ...... .love and respect all beings in all worlds ..... jah bless ... one love ... we are one
Went to a scratch Perry concert some years ago in Seattle and it was the most memorable concert i've been to. If you like heavy base dub and roots, definitely check him out as he had that energy and the crowds vibe going on + a little spliff..... buyaka! best concert ever
The master - Lee Scratch Perry. there's a thin line between genius and insanity & he one walking proof of it. Gloriously crazy, as only the best musicians/ producers/ entertainers are !!
The engineered the music to what it is today. Duppy conqueror. The crazy, the genious, the madman, is in all of us, sometimes that is what it takes to sort out the world, with it's 9 layers of madness. Breda Nancy!
