Scream 4 was the scream franchise’s redemption from this one. I do agree this one was goofy but it was like-able. Hope to see scream 4 because that one is good

This is a severely underappreciated movie. You guys have to keep in mind that this movie was made when the Columbine shooting happened. The world was in such a dark place that they were ordered to lighten the tone. That's why it feels more comical that serious. It is a literal product of the time period. Underneath all the humour, there is still a good story being told. And at least Scream 3 tried something different than just more of the same.

Scream 3 is the Scream movie I've watched the most. I f*ckin' love this movie. It's my favorite along with the first one. It's so campy and good.

Scream 3 was not written by the same writer. It's the black sheep of the franchise. The original idea by the writer of 1 and 2 was a ghostface cult led by Stu (who would have survived Scream 1) from prison. Basically a fanclub of Woodsboro kids that had formed because of Stab 1 and Stab 2. They were all doing the killings and the big surprise of the movie was when Sidney walked into the house after Ghostface had killed everyone … and they all rose up. None of them were actually dead and they’d planned the whole thing. But then Columbine happened so they decided to change the story. There was also a lot of horror censorship happening at the time which didn't help. Angelina was also going to be the second killer and a lot of the movie was shot with that in mind which is why it feels like there has to be two. But they decided to go with one killer in the end.

This one deals with Sidney's psychosis. So you see her mentally thinking she is going crazy which is why she has nightmares and sees her mother in a bloody sheet. Plus, the killer is preying on her mind games to kill her. But I think execution is a little less noticeable to a lot of people, but overall I personally love this one and think they did a good job on that. But yes, other than that this movie is way more comedic.

The main problem with scream 3 is that it doesn't have Kevin Williamson as the writer and he's the writer for scream 1 2 and 4

The reason the movie leans more comical is while it was being made, Columbine happened. And due to violence in media, the studio wanted a more pg movie. So they leaned into the comedy. I appreciate it more now for what it is. Especially since its no longer the last movie in the franchise.

Your reactions are the best. I always liked that movie. The reason it's more of a parody, and I've seen some interviews talk about it, is that Wes Craven was really disagreeing with the studio. He was pissed that the studio was rushing him, basically forcing him to do the movie while also meddling in the production too much, especially the script. That's why he debuted three years after the second. The studio wanted it to be less violent because of criticism of the media's depiction of violence at the time.

What I love the most about this movie was the message that West Craven was trying to put into the world about Hollywood. There wasn’t too many directors, willing to take that type of rest to let people know what was going on behind closed doors as far as abuse goes

The reason why it seemed half assed was probably due to the fact that they had another script but they had to scrap it because of the Columbine shooting and the original script they scrapped had a school as the final setting and my guess was that they were on a time crunch.

Scream 3 is honestly one of my favorites out of the series. Mostly because the killer is more active I think than the others.

Scream 3 faced some hardships and underwent a lot of re-writes. The production was pressured into toning down the violence due to the Columbine massacre in 1999. I believe they made the best of it. I enjoyed the film and it introduced me to the wonderful Parker Posey, who played Jennifer (Gale).

Scream was actually going to be title Scary movie. But the producer's thought it wasn't a commercial sell name. & They change to Scream because of the Michael Jackson's Scream song that came the year before 1995 and the movie came 1996.

Yeah, a lot of people hate this one. I actually love this one. It's one of my faves. It does make fun of itself a lot, and this one had a lot of re writes and had to be re written because of the columbine shooting that happened then. And Stu was actually supposed to be alive in 3 and the killer. He was supposed to be in prison and running things from inside prison. But because of the shooting, violence and gore were toned in movies and TV shows. So, it is the worst one in a sense. But if you can look past that, it's a pretty good movie

Couple things: the voice thing isn't realistic even 20+ years later lol. Also the girl who played Sidney in the movie with the short hair was supposed to be the second ghost face. Her "death" was bs

4 is MUCH better than 3. 3 is typically the least favorite among Scream fans. In time you'll grow to appreciate how campy it is but the tone is definitely jolting at first.

I love you guys and your content and I'm subscribing. You and a handful of other actually love and respect films for what they are, just films. It's too many robots complaining about politics in a film when they always been there. Filmmaking is about art and there are a variety of different films and I love the fact that you guys love and respect filmmaking and are not joining this weird anti film trend and just love to entertain people. Lol I apologize for not subscribing years ago. Keep the content growing and I hope to see you guys complete the entire Scream and I Know What You Did Last Summer series.

The problem with Scream 3 was the writing of the story itself. Not just talking about the actual story, but the writing process became hindered by real life tragedy. Originally the film went as far as the 20-30 page outline stage and was set in Woodsboro, centered back around Woodsboro High School again when a new Ghostface stalked the school. Sidney, Gail, and Dewey were going to be around to stop the new killer and a Stab movie fan club at the school was going to be involved. I’ve read that in that original version at one point Sidney would have raced to a Stab fan club party trying to warn them the killer was coming for them and once she got there they all laid dead, stabbed to death, but then they all rise, taking off fake knife handles from the shirts they wore with effects blood soaked on them. Turned out that the fan club were made up of crazed fans of the Stab film within the film. Not only that, but it would also have been revealed that the club were being mentored by someone in prison for murder…Matthew Lillard’s character Stu Macher, Billy Loomis’ accomplice in the 1st film. In that version Stu survived when the tv was dropped on his head and was permanently scarred/burned/disfigured akin to a typical movie slasher. Lillard was even paid for his involvement in it. Watch the moment in Scream when the tv drops on his head. Just before it cuts to the next scene the camera is panned down at Stu getting shocked and just after Sidney races off camera right watch Stu’s stomach-It still slightly moved so he’s still breathing (I actually noticed that in my first viewing of the film in the theater and pointed it out to my friend who was with me, back then). The tragedy that affected the story for 3 was the Columbine Massacre in Littleton, CO committed by Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold. Those old enough to remember that may also recall that violence in movies and entertainment was under heavy scrutiny after the Columbine tragedy and the people behind Scream 3 were forced to quickly come up with something else just before 3 was to go into production, with a new writer other than original scribe, Kevin Williamson. PS In the newer Hollywood set story there was going to be a 2nd killer with Roman, it was the actress playing Sidney in Stab, Angelina Tyler. Turned out that she was originally a girl who went to school with Sidney in high school who was obsessed with her and wanted to go all Single White Female and become Sidney. So if you’re wondering how it is that the killer can seem to be in two places at once at times in 3 (like when Ghostface chased Sidney around the studio set of her home), that’s why. Because Angelina was originally Roman’s accomplice.

It's very telling that this film was re-written all to hell and not by the original Scream writer. We're lucky that this film didn't kill off the whole franchise forever.

My main problem with this movie is that it feels like more like Scooby Doo than Scream. You got the killer dropping clues everywhere and the end is just people running around a mansion with secret passages. Always thought the killer reveal in this one was a really dumb retcon. This movie is a little over hated imo, I admit it’s more toward the bottom of my rankings, but Scream 3 is still pretty enjoyable imo, and I think the franchise is still very consistent, Scream 3 is still better then the worst horror movies in other horror franchises, like Jason goes to hell, or Halloween resurrection, Nightmares on elm street reboot, etc etc, there is no bad Scream film, it’s just there’s better Scream films then others that’s all it is.

4 was okish, but 5 got things back on track

4 & 5 (especially 5) gets better. The original creator and writer of scream didn’t write the script. His original script had to be scrapped due to the columbine shooting during that time. Plus Neve Campbell was only available to shoot for twenty days due to other obligations. That’s why you saw less of her and more comedy from the other cast. Stu was supposed to be the original killer.
