@@zonastarwars4397 I think it's about trilogies in general, not horror trilogies. Also most horror trilogies are not real trilogies, as they were not planned from the start. From what I know Williamson planned Scream as trilogy. However original Williamson's idea for part 3 was different, then the one we got in S3. And yeah, sure it was a bit farfetched. Anyway, it was such a powerful moment in S3, if only S3 was a better movie, so Randy's death would felt more justified :) Cheers!
@@oskar_oskarewicz honestly, i think they should have given him a girlfriend in S2. That way it wouldn't have felt so much like a retcon when he said he wasn't a virgin anymore in S3.
Damn another solid review! I am a huge movie geek but you reviewing these scream films, I found like more details about these movies that I hadn't even thought of, like not having a official writer for this film made such a huge difference and when you spoke about the whole randy trilogy rules thing, you made such a good point man 👍🏻 well done 😁👍🏻
Another thing I love about this Scream franchise is that they don't make the central victim of the franchise a very sympathetic character. She was kind of a horrible person yet she was still somebody's mother and her being so brutally murdered was really tragic for Sidney Prescott and it drives the whole thing
I go back and forth to which I dislike more SCREAM 3 or SCREAM 4. I only liked the one killer element in Roman, found some amusing moment within the threequel. But your point on Matthew Lillard, the first time I watched Scream 1, I always suspected Billy, so I wasn't surprised, but when Stu showed up I was floored, and then it all made sense somehow that Ghostface could be anywhere and everywhere and in my head at times, one of them would call while the other would seek out to kill. It blew my mind cause normally it's always one killer, seeing two was a complete shock. Loved Scream 2 just as much as the first.
Jeremy did you not notice the Clerks poster in the movie store in the original Scream? Or when Gale is putting the hidden camera in the party you can also see a copy of Clerks on top of the VCR. So the Jay & Silent Bob thing started with Scream.
“...cuz if I script it, then it’ll sound scripted and I don’t want to sound scripted so...” I really appreciate that answer thank you very much. Continue to do that.
I've just watched the first 4 Scrram movies for the first time and I must admit this was my favorite. I'm so impressed that they are all lovable and I get why Dead Meat's favorite is 2 and your favorite is 1, but for me this just got me the most engaged. Screw that gas scene tho!
Miles better than 4. Tagline for 4 was New Decade, New Rules. Well, they should have had Ghostface kill Sid and get away with it. Perfect setup for another sequel, ballsy, modern. But no, they did the safe obvious thing, again. Meh.
"Scream 3 is kind of becoming a parody of Scream." That's the BEST description of Scream 3 ever! It's my LEAST favorite of the Scream films! The Jay and Silent Bob scene had been the only scene I really loved in this movie, but now that it's been explain why it doesn't work, I don't love it anymore. I HATE what they say about Billy Loomis in Scream 3! Billy was such a PERFECT villain in Scream 1 and then this movie tried to take that away! NOT COOL! Scream 3 is the worst and laziest of the Scream movies by far! I'm looking forward to your Scream 4 review! That's my second favorite Scream film. The first is the best, but Scream 4 was good too!
Jeremy forgot to talk about the song from the band Creed. The band Creed released a song for the movie Scream 3, the song is called “What If.” If you get a chance check out the music video, it is connected to the movie Scream 3. The music video reveals the second killer that was missing in the movie Scream 3
Scream 3 was the first one i ever saw and is what got me into the series, so i have some love for this film. Honestly a solid trilogy, Scream 4 is pretty okay although i feel we need some sort of closure so I'm okay with a S5 but without Craven I have concerns.
First was awesome! The rest were mildly amusing twists on the same premise. Ultimately the sequels just became "how many crazy, gory ways can we kill people?" They're all worth a watch and I actually love the series...a guilty pleasure. But the first is excellent. It deals with grief, survivor's guilt and tells a much more well-rounded, emotional story with great characters. I remember really liking 5, but I only saw it once. I own the other 4 tho. I think 5 was the best of the sequels, but I'd like to see it again to be sure. But it has a great twist!!
im convinced scream 5 will go full meta and theyll just acknowledge that they are in a horror movie. that or time travel, with scenes from the original from different angles
I think Scream 3 definitely had problems, but I enjoy it so much. Parker Posey was AMAZING in her character. She was funny and a great add to the cast. Detective Kincaid should have been explored more.
For me, it'd go... _Scream-_ Awesometacular! It revived the horror genre for the 90's and did so with wit and style. _Scream 2-_ Worth buying on Blu-Ray A slick sequel all around. While it occasionally falls prey to the cliches the first movie mocked, when it works... it *really* works. _Scream 3-_ A better time... If you were drunk There's a lot of little elements about the film that are enjoyable on their own... but it just doesn't quite come together as a single cohesive experience. The movie itself feels a little too strained and uneven. _Scream 4-_ Good time, no alcohol required While it's never quite as refreshing as the first two installments, it's a perfectly serviceable, enjoyable little horror show. And the return of series creator Kevin Williamson is definitely felt, especially in comparison to the Williamson-less third entry.
Scream 3 had a great concept but poor execution. Lots of studio BS def didn’t help especially with there only being 1 killer. Wish they would’ve stuck with Angelina being the second killer like they planned originally.
I don’t mind Scream 3, yeah I see its flaws but I’ve never hated it. Its known that a large majority flat out hates the movie with a passion but I don’t find it that bad
scream 3 is my least favorite of the series for a lot of reasons, but the biggest is because of what could have been. when kevin williamson was still attached, the story was to have stu from the first scream still alive but in prison, secretly manipulating a cult of ghostfaces to torment sidney that would have been the entire cast minus sidney, dewey and gale. he eventually retooled this plot into the tv series "the following" starring kevin bacon, but i will forever be disappointed that we missed out on his original vision for scream 3.
*SPOILERS FOR SCREAM 5* Interesting tidbit for 5cream... Randy might be back or at least a Randy plot point considering Randy's sister has technically been confirmed to be in Scream 5. So definitely something to be unraveled there.
I swear, my exact reaction, in theater, when Jay and Silent Bob showed up in "Scream 3": "Oh, fuck that movie." Out loud. And nobody complaint about it. Completely took me out of the movie, and never got me back. And that's coming from a View Askew fan.
For some reason the first Scream scared me as a kid, the second one was watchable and the third was... dunno. Lackluster? Granted i should go back and watch these again 15 years on. Also quick question, I work with a sizeable RU-vidr who has made a film (took seven years jeez) and they want to get in front of different people for analysis. How would I go about contacting you on such a thing? It was a pretty big production, not one man and a camera (not that this is a big thing either).
Original script was stu being alive and orchestrating the killings from prison which would of been 10 times better, not sure how he survived a tv landing on his head like but ya know
This movie was written by the same guy who wrote Transformers: Age of Extinction..... I have nothing more to add I just thought that was interesting... 👀👀
huh interesting. I actually kinda enjoy Age of Extinction yet this movie I just....think it's eh. I mean AoE is also eh but entertaining eh. Also the fandom really took to the ship of Prime/Cade and unlike most ships out there it's actually not AWFUL so good job fandom.
Damn really? I actually think this has the best script out of the three sequels. I understand if people don't like because it's goes really meta, but this has been my favorite sequel for a while. It's so self aware and it feels like an epic finale to franchise. What the hell happened to his dialogue in the Transformer movie? The dialogue is extremely witty in this movie and Sydney has her best character work since the original. Plus, I love that it has a third act like the original with all the main characters being in one location for a huge set piece. I guess the writer was well past his prime at that point. Scream 4 is also an example of literally everyone being past their prime. It feels like a poor imitation of a Scream movie and I doubt I will ever watch it again.
Fred: Alright Gang, let's see who the killer really is. *Rips mask off* Whole Gang: SHAGGY?! Shaggy: And zoinks! I like would have gotten away with it too if weren't for you meddling kids!
@@TheChefComic The guy who played Shaggy in the live action Scooby Doo was the killer in Scream along with the main characters boy friend. He wasn't the master mind it was just out of peer pressure.
@@luckyDancer100 They weren’t. And even then, she managed to stick out like a sore thumb with overacting worse than what you’d see at an elementary school musical.
@@Splackavellie85 I mean I’ve seen both films and didn’t like them. So whatever her performance was didn’t stick. But it’s because the films were pretty lousy.
I met Matthew Lillard when I was on my assignment in Turkey a couple of years ago when he visited us...he is just as funny you see him in movies and he was super chill and cool. Jeremy and him would've gotten along really well
Scream 3 is definitely the weakest of the Scream movies. I would rank them 1. Scream 2. Scre4m 3. Scream 2 4. Scream 3 I really enjoy all but the 3rd one but I think Scre4m is slightly more enjoyable than Scream 2 because Scre4m made fun of reboots while still being a lot of fun and I felt Scream 2 rubbed the whole sequel thing in your face a bit too much.
I’m going to request the underrated Halloween cult classic Trick r Treat. Also really good theory about Detective Kincaid, he did give off a really creepy vibe.
I’ve been saying review Trick R Treat for weeks, I remember first time seeing the cover at Blockbuster when it first came out and I gave it a try and was shocked I found such a great film off me thinking the cover is cheesy enough for me to enjoy lol!
@@facehunter504 It’s so good. I saw a trailer for it It was like this looks really interesting and I saw the movie in it really scared me. That’s hard to do nowadays with a movie. Come on Jeremy review trick-or-treat
this movie is like cinema hypnosis-you're having a good time when you watch it then after you just completely forget the whole thing lol but that's just me.
as a scream movie. It's the weakest because the thing that made Scream so good is that managed to tow the line between being a self aware slasher without going into self parody. Scream 3 just throws that out the window and it becomes a parody of itself. Making it feel more like "Scary Movie". I still really like the movie and think it's hilarious though (EDIT: I said this comment before finishing the review lmao. I can see me and Jeremy are in agreement on this).
I love all the Scream movies. Just like I love all of the Friday the 13th movies (most of at least) and all the Nightmare On Elm Street movies and all of the Halloween movies. The first is the best one, but I don't think any of them are bad movies. I'd still rather watch the whole Scream filmography than a lot of other horror. As for Nightmare and Friday, I think there are some really great sequels throughout those franchises, but some of them are complete ass. And Halloween has a lot of meh movies, but 4 and 5 are guilty pleasures because I love Danielle Harris as Jamie.
I liked most of it but the last 20 minutes made the whole movie fall apart. I’ve always been surprised by the killers reveal but this time I didn’t care about the backstory or the killer. Just the payoff wasn’t enough.
Completely off-topic: Jeremy I first watched one of your videos 10 years ago this month. It was on the social network and I was subscribed on another account. I was 20 and you had about 2000 subscribers at the time. I remember because I watched it after my final exams in college right before I went out on my first date with my partner. We're still together 10 years later and it's our 10th anniversary in a few weeks. Anyway you've been a part of my life for 10 years now. When I think of all the things that have happened (living in different countries, starting my career, falling in love) you've been the one fucking constant presence through all that change.
@@E-Chap First video I ever watched from Jeremy, first time I'd ever seen or heard from me? Mass Effect 3 ending. I worked my way most of his other videos while running side missions in games like Infamous 2 after that. A lot of his older video were quite a bit shorter than his newer stuff, which made binging them very easy to do and addictive. To this day I'm still occasionally going back and watching various videos I'd missed. Going back to an earlier video and seeing him with different hair and no beard is pretty consistently amusing.
I now realise that’s why Lisa at the end of Red Eye (Directed by Wes Craven to) says “Anything but a bay breeze.” Cause it was the original ending of Scream.
@@mikealan1984 that's a good joke!. I will admit that Scream 3 is hilarious. Because this is the film that is pretty much a parody of the series. Everything is heightened and is just so goofy. It's a entertaining movie to laugh at, but as a Scream sequel, this one is trash.
Scream 4 is by far the weakest and it feels like everyone is past their prime at that point. It literally feels like a poor imitation of Scream movie or a trash modern reboot. I get people not liking Scream 3 because of how meta the movie is, but it did have one of the best scripts out the sequels with the witty dialogue and character work with Sydney. I also do love that it has a third act like the original with all the main characters being one giant location for a grand finale. Neve Campbell is also at her absolute best here too. I just hate that Scream 4 was ever made and it reminds me of that damn MTV Scream series so much.
My theory is that because the killer was the director of the movie, he could take audio clips of their voices and use a device that can imitate voices that you record. He would have the actors voices recorded, and could even get the other characters voices like Cindy and Gale just from interviews about the first 2 killings.
The second killer is revealed to be the Emily Mortimer character. She was working with the director the whole time. This was revealed in the special features and directors commentary. The scenes with her reveal were left on the cutting room floor for some reason.
You have to view the Scream sequels as a meta horror comedy more than an actual slasher. The cheesiness and convenience is intentional to a degree, and even more hilarious when unintentional.
@@Awoken0 dude, if there was ever a game trilogy that had such a perfect movie-esque quality of a script that came together in ways no one could forsee, it's definitely those games. It still blows my mind how much 2 did what it did. Almost as mind blowing as Max Payne 2 when you find out who was behind the events of the first game.
@@jamesmallone I agree. It's his favorite video game series of all time, from what I remember, and I've been commenting about it a few times in the past few months hoping to get his attention so he makes one or more videos about it.
You know I NEVER gave much thought to how the voice changer worked in this movie until I saw Dead Meat's kill count on Scream 3 and now I can't watch that movie without thinking "how tf does any of this work?" Which just goes to show that sometimes the simple plots work best. Especially in horror and horror/fantasy like Nightmare Before Christmas, Scream, Paranormal Activity 2007 etc. Also Jeremy since you apparently DO read the comments, here's day 3 of kindly requesting that you review Haunting of Hill House this month.
@@Mcelly58 actually the show is based on a book, which is INCREDIBLE, and the book had two movies before the show-a movie back in 1963 which I highly recommend, and that other one with owen wilson. I don't recommend that one. But the 63 version is just as stunning as the show.
It be one thing if it was like scrambled audio pieced together from the Killer stalking & recording everyone and it being a offputting, not 100% accurate recreation...but nah, a cheap and lazy prefect copy.
voice changers can be crazy accurate nowadays. At hockey games, they can take a voice and change it to sound like someone else for a video and they act like its no big deal. Its crazy stuff.
Unpopular opinion: I enjoyed "Scream 3" more than "Scream 2." In all honesty, it's been years since I've watched either movie, and the first "Scream" still reigns supreme as the best in the series, but I remember feeling like "Scream 2" was lacking whereas "Scream 3" was a lot more entertaining.
I actually have a guilty pleasure for the third film it’s not SO bad. Jeremy I don’t know if you do requests etc, but I’m currently watching “Hollow Man” from 2000 so I’d be intrigued to see your opinion on this movie
Nice one. pretty great movie. Part 2 is straight to dvd but it actually works imo. Check it out if you haven't, it's got a decent story and you get to see one of Christian Slater's sparse roles. (Stephen King's "Dolan's Cadillac" with him was pretty sweet as well)
Jeremy, Will you revisit Scream 4 for the sake of finality? I know you reviewed it back in the day when your channel was first blowing up, but I feel like a revisit would bring a full circle moment not only to your channel, but the end of this awesome Scream halloween season type of videos you got going for us. Your channel has been the absolute bestof the best... Ethan.
I always chalked the voice changer and Sidney seeing her mom, as Ronan (who works for Hollywood and has access to film props and tricks) fucking with Sidney's mind. The reason I think that is because just before he reveals himself to Sidney, he shows up wearing the same bodybag/sheet that Sidney was supposedly having visions of earlier, and he's using their mother's voice with the voice changer.
I like this movie more the older I get. I just appreciate the different tone it takes and all the tongue in cheek moments, it fits right it and is arguably my favorite scream 😭❤️
It's also my favorite. Scream 1 is fun, but I don't find it nearly as smart as most people claim it is and Scream 2 is just plain bad in my opinion. Scream 3 is fun, smart and I love that it just went for it.
@@Alejandroigarabide I'm pretty sure its not uncommon as you would think. I started playing rated M games and watching rated R movies since I was a kid. Its not necessarily bad as long as the parent knows their child can handle it. I know quite a few people who grew up watching violent films and playing games with gore.
He namedropped it in one of his earlier videos this month, so that might help people get the reference. I got it. I've played the game before....recently in fact.
When you were talking about Matthew Lillard, I thought you would mention the original premise for Scream 3, where he survived and was behind the killings. I kind of hope Scream 5 goes that direction because he was great in the first Scream.
But the killer must be someone we see in the movie. Having him appear on screen would spoil the intrigue. And leaving him off-screen until the reveal would be unScreamLike.
I would say Scream 3 has more going for it as a film but kind of a weak twist, Scream 4 is the opposite lack luster film amazing twist. I would rather watch Scream 3 than 4
The fact that you have a tradition to watch the scream movies every October is awesome cause me and my wife do the same thing!! We’ve been watching your reviews pretty much since you started! Are you excited for 5? Seems like the cast is having a lot of fun with it and the new directors are super passionate!
