They really should get back to those box sets.

The same thing happened to Anchor Bay back on the VHS and early DVD era. And now they don't exist but fans are still tracking down their releases. But I think Scream Factory is doing O.K. maybe you can buy every Scream title but some us can't. I only have a handful of their releases I still have a long way to go. So yeah they're still selling their older titles. In my eyes they don't have to release a box set or 4K every month. But to each their own. Anyway good topic and cool video Christian!👉😃👈

Scream Factory is basically just trying to see how many collectors they can sucker in to pay extra for the alternative slip covers. Then based on how many buy them they will make it the new standard going forward.

I just started collecting in 2020, so for me scream factory is killing it. I’m always excited every month for the new releases but I can see why people that started from the beginning are upset from the re releases.

Overpriced just for a basic case and a slip, and they artificially make their stuff pricey with extra slips, extra posters, and a stupid ass sticker and pins. Case and point the chucky 4ks they just did 4 4ks with all of that unnecessary junk was like $175. Arrow is doing the entire franchise in a 4k box set for $110 ! Add in the constant re-release titles but just making them 4k , no new special features and just overall not a good company....yeah they fell off which is a shame cause I loved them as well and use to get excited for new sf announcements.

A lot more boutique labels have made it more difficult to snatch up titles in the last few years, drives up prices for the rights. It’s a way more even playing field than it was when Scream Factory was at the top. International/Domestic rights are always a factor too. I agree about the stupid bundles though.

I started collecting December 2022 and to me SF is doing great. Alot of their stuff sells out in 2-4 months.

I think their transfers, generally are among the best.

Scream Factory's catalog is astounding when you consider the sheer diversity of studios they've licensed from, which had only ever been done before by Anchor Bay back in 2012. They were essentially the Anchor Bay of the 2010s (as an aside I'm predicting that we will look back and call either Arrow Video or Vinegar Syndrome the Anchor Bay of the 2020s). Ten, or perhaps even five years ago, I would have never expected to see a day where fans get bummed out when Scream Factory announces a title because they'd rather see a better company release it. In recent years, Scream Factory consistently promises to deliver fans missed opportunities, gouged prices, damaged or absent slipcovers, defective discs, blu-ray grease, overall poor customer service, and other bizarre mishaps - and that experience is what Scream Factory is becoming synonymous with for many people. They built themselves up to be one of the biggest brand names in horror, and now they're running that brand into the ground.

Man scream factory is asleep. 35 bucks for a blueray edition of JENNIFER 8? Do a second friday 13th box set with all movies in 4k with a director cut on part 2 and part6.

Totally agree. They're aren't releasing anything really to 4k worth picking up. Nothing in the past 2 months or the rest of the year is worth getting excited over. Where is Day of the Dead 4k? Silent Hill? Jeepers Creepers 1 and 2? Sleepaway Camp 1-3? They're giving us Dead Zone, Fargo, and some other crap? Come on Scream Factory. STEP IT UP. Smh

It was probably about 2 years ago when I realized Scream Factory stopped caring about collectors. I’ve almost stopped collecting them all together even if it’s a movie I love, just because their releases are just ehh. I just don’t care about them really.

Their prices are too high. I get boutique but you don’t get $8 and $10 4K’s like Sony, paramount, lionsgate, etc. I know criterion does 50% but that’s still like $25 a movie.

You're absolutely right about everything here, Chris. I feel like their venture into 4K releases of previous releases have hurt them. There are a few exceptions, like Alligator, & the Halloween films... but the theatrical only artwork that don't even have reversables is just boring. I feel like they need to listen to constructive criticism like this from their customers in order to get back up there with Arrow. The quality in your releases needs to represent how much they want you to buy from them versus anyone else.

As a new collector starting with the Halloween 4k's they did in like 2020? I think I can't remember exactly. I have trouble keeping up with all of their releases as they put them out. However I will admit when I get something from Arrow. Like the Dario Argento films in their chunky box sets, or like that Empire of screams and Psycho set. It's almost daunting how many special features and how well the packaging is on a lot of them. And even seeing other titles like the Awesome Tiger Cage Trilogy over in the UK vs our bare bones trilogy set in the states it is kind of disappointing. However I do think other things have been nice, like the Shaw Brothers movie collections they have. However I will say a lot of their newer releases does seem to be lacking things like Dolby Atmos for example. And I deff agree with you that the Night of the Demon's Trilogy should have had a nice box set. I actually think it's the more recent titles that they are releasing. I remember even during the Halloween movies it felt like they were giving us a lot of special features and premium packaging. Now I feel like that's lacking somewhat. Even simple stuff like reversable cover art work on titles is a nice touch. But they just don't seem to do that really anymore it feels like.

If there were some great new special features added to these 4K re-releases I would be more excited to pick these up. Not too excited about paying $30 just for a new 4K transferred disc.

they lost me when they announced the Dead Zone 4k.. the bluray was just released in 2021, they make no sense as a company anymore

The biggest reason I haven’t gone region free is to try to limit myself on how much I spend. If I do go region free, I’d be way too broke and my wife would flip!

I think this speaks volumes. I use to buy a LOT of scream factory stuff, however during this past Halloween sales week, I got TEN Arrow Films releases and NO Scream Factory releases... They need to step it up! PS I also got the slim version of Empire of screams, it's still a GREAT boxset and all for $40!!

I bought 3 copies of candyman from scream factory that would not play 100% due to factory scratches. Went with arrow version and no issues...

Wouldn't put it past them to release Nightbreed 4K again with the Directors Cut included like with that Blu Ray Set

Very odd that they are doing a Blu-ray of Thinner instead of releasing it on 4K. Really hoping we can get Black Christmas 2006 remake on 4K!

My opinion. Scream Factory doesn’t get enough credit. And many of the things they should get compliments for are instead turned into hate. For example, this year's 4K box-sets for Halloween and The Ring were met with complaints about the titles not being released individually. When 4K upgrades are released individually, the story often becomes about how the option wasn't necessary if they aren’t going to be given new special features. So much of the negative feedback seems to be missing just how amazing their month to month lineups can be, where as other companies may release one minor title in comparison and get much more unfiltered praise. If we include Shout Factory it’s even worse, as whether it’s releasing major box-sets of Jackie Chan or Shaw Brothers, or complete television series of Shaun the Sheep or Alf, it almost becomes exhausting at how much good they do for physical media. Still in the case of Alf I immediately saw complaints about the price in comparison to other companies, meanwhile Shout did the job properly with every episode uncut. I can go on and on about how their good deeds go punished. Even something like giving the option of two slipcovers is met with “stupid and unnecessary”, meanwhile I’ll see different people favoring different choices, or going with bundles because it actually saves them money. Scream/Shout Factory aren’t perfect. But they are in my opinion amazing… and maybe even the overall best.

You used to look forward to what scream factory puts out seems to me they focus more on putting there older titles on 4k I would love to see them put out a box set of nightmare on elm Street or titles never been released

A phenomenal deep dive into the woes of Scream Factory (and Shout as well) CHH. My hugest problem right now is, their crazy making delay in announcing extras. They have two HUGE Shaw Brothers box sets coming out, one of them in three weeks and they STILL HAVEN'T ANNOUNCED THE EXTRAS. What gives, Shout/Scream? I wanna spend but need details to commit. C'mon!!

Scream Factory is definitely in a slump. Arrow, Second Sight and Indicator are my go to boutiques lately.

More blu rays collectors like instead or putting out the same movies on 4k let’s do a Blu ray of something we haven’t done yet

If SF can get their hands on the rights to Nightmare on Elm Street, that would be a goldmine. If we as fans can FINALLY get a decent remastered collection of these films, with special features, it would be killer! ❤️

I love the Arrow Video sets. I have only a couple (Waterworld, Robin Hood, RoboCop) but I am a fan of the look and the artwork overall.

I’m hoping for the Scream Factory Omen collection from my wife for Christmas.

When Scream Factory kicked off its initial releases it seemed destined to be the new Anchor Bay (pre-Starz merger) or dare I even say a Criterion-style label releasing the ultimate editions of our favorite horror and genre releases. But now instead of being at the forefront labels like Arrow or Kino Lorber are completely killing it with their quality releases some even being previously released by SF. Don't get me wrong there are still upcoming SF releases I am looking forward to but if I know another label is likely to release it, I will wait. It just seems like your paying for the name without much to back it up.

I think Arrow and Vinegar Syndrome are doing the best job at this point. Arrow especially is putting out 4K rereleases that really show how it’s done and can even get double dippers excited. I’ve never been enthusiastic for a SF double dip.

What a perplexing and unfortunate fall from grace... Shout/Scream were the undisputed champs of the boutique space. But due to their shady business models and what I'm assuming are cost cutting measures, they now offer a far cheaper product at a premium price when compared to their competition. They have completely lost touch, or at the very least failed to keep up with their peers in the premium space. I think they've gotten lazy, and greedy and their product has suffered because of it. I would personally rather buy from just about any other label than Shout/Scream if given the option which I never thought I'd say. I think the only reason they even remain relevant in today's collector space is that they still have the license to a lot of major titles, and they also have a fairly large fan base that remains loyal to them in spite of these issues.

The errors on certain releases is what makes me hesitant to buy from SF right away now and i used to be excited to get their releases but they've been in the rear view mirror for so long now and it looks like they'll always be there.

Arrow, Kino Lorber, and others came in and ate their lunch. I am a big fan of Second Sight out of the UK. They are my favorite out of all of them. Second Sight is the absolute best in my opinion.

I dont have a strong opinion on the label so ill just say this: I think that Taco Bells nacho fries are S tier fast food

I still prefer Scream Factory to just about every boutique label, I’m not a huge fan of Vinegar Syndrome because most of their releases don’t interest me.

Arrow locks alternate cuts and special features behind "limited editions". What a scummy business model. There's no excuse for that

Scream Factory is all about the cash. They won't even replace damaged slips and/or slips that have something sticky spilled on them that causes the slip to tear when rubbing off. NEVER spend extra for the replacement thing at checkout.

Believe it or not I'm not mad at scream for re-releasing something that was on blu-ray on 4k because that's been the game we collectors play if you have been collecting as long as I have. I had to eventually switch all my vhs's to dvd's than eventually change my dvd's to blu-ray's. Which I dragged my feet on for so long into it became apparent most physical media sections weren't carry much to no dvd's anymore despite movies still releasing in that format. Most of the movies scream has released on 4k I didn't have yet anyway like baba ho-tep or nightbreed and if I have it already on blu-ray like child's play or night of the demons I just see it as well if I decide to eventually get a 4k player I have the option to watch them on 4k now. I more annoyed about them locking the custom slipcovers or art behind a big pay wall now unlike before where it came with the movie & made it feel premium. Till this day I still collect more scream than I do arrow or vingar syndrome because they still release the better titles imo. Before the last house on the left remake I haven't picked up much new arrow titles because nothing they released has interested me outside tremors 2 & the warriors. And as for vinegar syndrome I stopped blind buying because despite having quality releases 85% of what they release is hot garbage or I already have. But I may pick up tcm2 & from beyond for the right price just out curiosity. I also have another minor complaint with scream that's no big deal but i still wished scream released all their movies now with a hard case slip like they did with the Halloween 4k's & elvira because it makes it feel more premium than the floppy slips do.

Yea the extra slips I just buy empty cases and put on display But still it’s spine most of the time Kinda pointless Same with posters

Didn't they just release four big box sets of the shaw brothers open 👁👁 Last time I checked vinegar syndrome which I loved their last 4 releases. Were re releases of troma movies. I already own on blu. Ray. So every label is doing the re release thing stop buying them

I wonder if they have become successful to the point where they're settled and are not concerned with trying anymore to wow the collectors This happens with alot of companies in many industries once they have made it to the top they no longer remain that smaller company they once were and they take collectors and other customers for granted. I could be wrong.. its just dollars and cents that matters once some companies grow to a certain size. Go from boutique biz to a big brand that no longer pushes the boundaries or breaks new ground with spectacular releases. Two slip covers makes no sense to me.

Not a fan of scam factory at all! But sadly I end up buying from them because no one else is releasing the films they did. 4ks are great and more boxset with original audio are always a must buy

UK collector here….arrow have been copy and paste ever since they started doing 4K….no new artwork…same movies…no new extras….I would give anything to have scream/shout factory easily accessible over in the uk….arrow has been awful for years.

scream factory has definately taken their foot off the gas these last couple of years. i think scream factory is probably the worst label around nowadays. customer service isnt good, they act like they dont care about their product. like you said they are copy and paste. so many others like arrow, second sight, studio canal, vinegar syndrome, ect all do amazing jobs. theyve all past SF and it isnt even close anymore which is sad because i love the titles SF gets but its hard getting excited when you know its gonna be a blah release.

Scream Factory has gotten out of hand with the double dip 4K releases. They rarely have anything going for them other than the 4K aspect and some lame items like pin sets / posters etc. there is NOTHING exciting (for me) with that type of release. Give me a MOVIE that hasn’t been released before or one that hasn’t been released as a SPECIAL EDITION! That’s what I’m looking for to get excited about.

You hit it right on the head CHH. Scream factory has become greedy and are taking advantage of its customers for the last couple years. They know what the collectors want but dont deliver because they know are the #1 boutique label with a deep catalog and clout to do what they want. Those Chucky films should have been in a box set instead they made fans purchase them individually. They do good work on the transfers but I cant show them any support. I aend my money overseas instead.

I would say their problem is due to two factors. 1. Their prices (to be fair this goes for any botique label) are absurd. Legit I ain't paying $30-$40 for 4K blu ray that is only the movie and their subsidary Shout release certain 4K movies as special editions only and the prices are fucking stupid if you don't need the stuff that comes with it so if you don't want them tough shit you only get blu ray good day. 2. They go for horror movies no one mostly cares about. The only one that interested me were the ZS directed Dawn of the Living Dead and the F13 collection. then radio silence with no Elm Street box set nor finishing the 4K set of Halloween franchise. Instead they go for movies 9 times out of 10 no one knows of or care about and sales dwindle. In short I hope they change and better themselves and stop the special edition ideas and the prices.
