as a kid in the 70's i loved these type of films.i could sit for hours and watch them.there were some good werewolf films in the 70's like scream of the wolf, the boy who cried werewolf and moon of the wolf.also loved staying up late and watching the creature feature shows.
Wow! Another gem scripted by the great Richard Matheson; always a joy to find his work! And Peter Graves...and the great and utterly magnificent Clint Walker! His performance in this is unsettling. He illustrates to perfection the image of someone smiling...but with utterly cold eyes. Brilliantly done! Many thanks! :)
i remember this movie way back '77, my Dad (rip) watched it on tv since it was showing daily on the afternoon movie slot at ibc channel 13. my Dad likes Clint Walker's very macho role. i miss you Dad,
God the most high the good Lord blessed us with two great actors and those to Peter Graves and Clint Walker God I miss them acting since I was a little boy they were my favorites great actors God bless rest in peace Peter Graves and Clint Walker
My dog (130lb Great Pyrenees) just loves these movies. Lays there watching intently, growling softly, until he actually sees the animal and then jumps up snarling and barking. After the movie, he likes to go outside into the backyard, still growling, to search for the animal. Man, I'd pity the poor fool who just happens to be out there in the darkness.
My pek/pug mix did the same. He even had the commercials memorized and jumped to attack another animal of any sort entering our house through t.v. lol Enjoy him while you have him, I had to put my friend down on Thanksgiving Day. Television will never be the same, although I do still catch myself jumping when an animal comes on t.v., expecting my buddy to come unglued. It brings a smile to my face.
Susan .. A lot of dogs do, but mine only to this type of movie. He doesn't care about animals in general on television, but put on one of these (hidden, stalking, growling animal) and he gets aggressive (gander up, fangs bared, etc). Anyway, sorry about your friend. I've had to do it three times now and it's always sad. And, since me and "wolfie" have formed such a tight bond, it's going to be especially sad. Our elderly neighbors had to put down their female Pyrenees (long before we moved in) and now refuse to have another pet. However, they love to watch "wolfie" in our backyard. She, housebound (some kind of bone illness), will occasionally drive her wheelchair out into her backyard and walk the final few feet (her husband says is very painful) to the fence to pet him. He runs around in circles, rolls on the ground, and acts the fool while she laughs in delight. I leave them to their special times together, watching quietly through the window.
Susan, I'm so sorry for your loss. I lost one of my kitties right before Thanksgiving, too. They are such a lot of company! While I was watching this movie, I had 3 kitties on me and my 2 dogs growling at the TV set. I was glad that it wasn't gory...just suspenseful, which is what I can handle. Show me a lot of blood and I have got to change the channel!
ABC network aired this as a double feature 1/16/1974 repeat of The Night Stalker- Scream of the Wolf, I saw it in 74, so I thought it would be fitting that I watch it 45 years later to the day 1/16/2019. Just as good today as it was in 1974.
Yes you're right I was 15 years old when I first saw it in 1974 Dan Curtis was a great producer I believe he did Dark Shadows 2 and he did one about the zombie what's Angie Dickinson
Great movie. Still love those old movies, where ones imagination brings about the most fear. Not depending on CGI to make a movie scary.RIP to Clint Walker, great talent, and such an imposing presence on screen. My favorite movie he did was "Night of the Grizzly".Thanks for the upload.
One of my favorites with Clint. PROVES he's not just a cowboy but a quality actor also. always enjoy watghing clint in any kind of scenario!!!! GEORGETTA ROSS
I remember seeing this one back in the day. Not bad for a TV movie. Dan Curtis had some decent stuff back then. Better than some of the crap they churn out today. Still a fan of Dark Shadows.
Not only one of the best TV movies ever made but one of the best horror moviesever made! The ending is fantastic! Peter Graves Clint Walker and Joanne Phlug! great Dan Curtis movie with a great cast and excellent story. WATCH THIS!
How could I chose? There were so many of them! Vincent Price, (who could say the word Eee-VIL better than anyone I ever heard) Boris Karloff even Lon Cheney. My Dad told me he stood in line at the Small Town Theater & paid 10¢ to see the Original "Frankenstein" make it's Debut! And he was an Adult!! So that goes way back in my Family. I & my husband were raised on the "Twilight Zone" Series & now my husband & I look around & see what's going on in this Country & the World & say "Rod Serling was a Prophet"! Crazy to think these "Scary Movies" of yesterday are somewhat coming True! Like "1984" , "The Body Snatchers" & "Soylent Green"!
One of the best! ...A good story and teleplay, and what a cast, Graves and Walker are excellent , with strong support, and it figures that Dan Curtis would be in on this. I really dig Robert Colberts music. (:-)
The 70's is when they made the best movies. Not all this gore crap they have today and where everyone dies at the end of the movie. How depressing. No wonder our world is so screwed up now!!!
Yes, Graves hot off of Mission Impossible and Dan Curtis fresh from "Dark Shadows," & one year shy of making his hit "Trilogy of Terror," another ABC movie of the week. Great memories!
Do you remember there was a great one about a wolf woman? it was part of the sci- fi series collection, Hulk too i remember Hulk and Tales from the creep but i don´t remember the name of the other one. I´m talking about a serie, not a movie
Loved Clint Walker in CHEYENNE...Also LOVED PETER GRAVES in MISSUIN IMPOSSIBLE...Both were fine actor's...I had a feeling when this first came out that Clint Walker played the "bad guy"....but he did it so well...RIP PETER GRAVES....This is an awesome movie!!!! Thanks for posting
Peter Graves Agent :..."...I found you a role in a WEREWOLF movie! " Peter Graves :....."....No THANKS! " Agent :...."....You get to drive a Corvette Stingray....." Peter :...."...where do I sign!? "
Clint Walker...a gentle giant, and handsome too. Loved him in Night of the Grizzley! Peter Graves did a great job like Clint...loved him in Mission Impossible! I miss those 70's mystery movies. They were well written with good taste. Thank goodness they still show old reruns of Columbo...
This is why I miss all these ' Movie of the week ' films some fantastic some good and some very boring . This one is just great and with that classic music in all of Dan Curtis films . Thanks very much for posting this
He was so lucky!! We all forget, we're here only temporarily. Our possessions don't really belong to us. We are the custodians of our houses. We don't own anything outright, as we can't take anything with us when we die. This life is like a dream. Afterwards, we will wake up in another place and we will forget we were even here. Just like all these dreams we don't remember in the morning, but we know we all dream. Remember this every day, you're only temporarily here and your day of departure can be at any moment. Do your best with the last day of your stay in this life. ❤
These 70s made for tv horrors conceal plenty of shadowy mystery behind the camera, develop characters that feel 'realistic', and really work the soundtracks to amp up the suspense -- since FX was expensive and in short supply in the 1970s. Also, it's fun to see all the city scapes and architecture of the 70s in these flix. Peter Graves' Mid Century Modern California Contemporary looks like an awesome home near Malibu. They don't make em like they use to.
I was very BOARD tonight. Just surfing around n I found this movie. I wasn't really going to watch this movie. But it's so good, I couldn't stop watching! Thank goodness you posted this gem! 👏👏👏👏👏👏😁👏👏👏👏👏
Clint Walker six foot six inches of the most amazingly, yummy, man stuff ever made! If there was a factory that could produce an android human of this man...I'd give up my cable, cellphone and internet service to buy it. Rugged, handsome, mannered, intelligent, and blue eyed with dark hair!!!! Wow! They don't make that anymore. Still alive and kicking at eighty three? Good living gives a good life. Thanks Clint for showing us what a real man should be!!!
Yes, and HOLY COW, they had him styling and profiling in this movie. So handsome, arrogant, and menacing...but it was fun seeing him play the bad guy for a change. I loved the movie!
With the wrong cast, this could have been just another Move of the Week, but it was well acted with enough suspicion to keep the viewer hooked. Despite Walker's menacing character, it's hard not to like this tall, handsome hunk of a man.
Top notch ,back then all you needed was the made for tv movies they had a decent budget and great actors always answered the call...I miss those days so much!
@toogawnjawn Thats great toogawnjawn, I think more young people need to watch movies like this. Thanks for sharing my movies with your grandkids, you are a cool grandmother :)
I was 14 yrs old when this came out, love 1974, was a good year, with love, caring n taking n watching out 4 each other, n the 60, mom said u can leave your door open or unlock,
It wasn't scary but it was a decent movie. It had Leo Gordon and Nancy Culp (Jane Hathaway on The Beverly Hillbillies) in it. Encore Western runs it a lot.
Well, that was a different ending! I thought that creepy guy living at Clint's place was a werewolf, & Clint "lived" for the thrill of having such a creature to do his bidding. Neat twist having Peter/prey surprise him with an "unexpected" pistol.
If they only has cell phones back in the day. But it would take about 30 years for that, and 40 years for much better cell phones! I enjoy Peter Graves and Clint Walker makes a real convincing hunter/killer!
The Byron character is absolutely appalling! I’m trying to remember if anyone was really like that back then! Problem is I was too young to make judgements like that. Love the way the werewolf demolishes two super strong outside doors in a second, but can’t make it through the bedroom door!
I once read a short horror story way back in the 70's called "The Hunter" which was very similar to this film. The story was set in England and the bad guy used a wolverine instead of a wolf. It was written by a man named David Case and is well worth a read.
Clint Walker, a much-underappreciated actor, usually plays good guys or frontiersmen. But he plays a heavy equally well. It's also a treat to see Peter Graves in a movie about werewolves. Odd combo of the two.
Can't remember ever watching this film before , but actually enjoyed it. I was kind of hoping Clint would actually turn into a warewolf but he didn't, or I imagined that there would be a twist to the film and it would be someone else but it wasn't. However it's a good little movie anyway. 👍
Like "The Howling" you need some silver bullets. Just concede and do so as insurance. The deputy used lead bullets and was killed. Neat mystery story. Clint Walker acted very menacing.
I remembered the 1st time i saw this movie, It had me scared. at first I thought it was the it was the hunter that was a werewolf. Boy, was I ever wrong. lol
