When petty criminals start turning up murdered, a detective discovers they are being killed by a group of his fellow officers who think the criminals were treated too leniently by the courts.
This crime drama is a real blast from the past, a return to those enjoyable TV Movies of yester. Robert Forster is a solid hero, and he is joined by a first-rate cast.
I watched this movie back in the late 70s in El Salvador (I was a kid at that time) Death squads were the modality during those years in my country. Unfortunately, those vigilante groups were brutal and targeting mostly, a lot of innocent people as a collateral.
A time period when classic cop movies were at its best, during the golden age era of Hollywood. Thank you for this great T.V. Movie thriller! Johnny, Montréal, Canada 💕👍👋😎
Those early 70's Dodge Coronet and Plymouth Satellite cop cars were tough cars...Same mill as the Monaco, Polara and Fury {440}, but smaller and lighter.
In the early '70's, my Dad worked on the truck weigh scales, and he was given a Fury to drive, an ex cop car. I remember it had no handles in the back seat, we were embarrassed, my sister and I had to wait for him to open the doors for us! Did that car go and built like a tank!
I was a Jr. in High School and my daddy was Watch Comm. for Newton Div., L.A.P.D. glad he was off the beat by then. He went through the "Watts Riots" of the 60's that was enough. He retired out a Sgt.II, on a medical leave. Daddy was always a "straight arrow" of a peace officer. Peace on Earth. Goodwill to every living creature. Jeanie Hill-Wilcox.
Man! Did Melvin Douglas' character hit the nail on head regarding our old neighborhoods?! "I look around my neighborhood now, and it makes me sicker than I am! It used to be a decent neighborhood" Now they all drive too fast, MAKE TOO DAMN MUCH NOISE, they all smoke way too much dope, and they all think somebody owes "em something. That's how I would've said the same thing about my neighborhood almost 50 years later.
this was 1974? i remember being at my grandmothers house in UTAH either 1978 or 1980 and seeing the beginning of this movie and this movie was on VHS for sale in the 1990s and I bought a copy probably still have it!!!
The Magnum Force death squad officers were young, former special forces service men. Physicly top class, they didn't drink, they didn't smoke, they didn't fuck. They dedicate their whole life for the death squad brotherhood 100%
Life imitates Art. As you are reading this comment a group of police officers are taking justice into their own hands and have KILLED someone who beat the system on a legal technicality.
We need a squad like this in the UK. Countless people get a suspended sentence or serve just a couple of years for sa, hurting children or running someone over whilst drunk out of their mind
This one is about like one of those Dirty Harry movies , the motorcycle cops were killing the bad guy's David Soul was one of the motorcycle cops , I forgot who was the ring leader of the group Not a bad movie recognize a majority of the actors (males) and actresses(females)👌 way better than the ones now to me
5:51 minutes.....that would become quite costly if, they only use it once....and always toss. Plus, that throw was very weak...someone will eventually find it, hopefully not some child or teenager, in for a swim! Makes me wonder if, the U.S. is littered with partially loaded handguns...
They are siezed guns , used in former crimes. They are melted down anyway. And once the gun rusts , it doesnt fire . Bullets only last a little while under water, they corrode, and when the powder or primer gets wet, they dont work.
This movie reveals things that every day going on in powerful organization which established to save people rights and freedoms. No one can do anything about that. God bless us. Thanks for sharing.
Very abrupt ending, with much more left unsaid and to be done! Maybe, the thought of a sequel briefly passed through their minds but..... They could have made another movie with all that was left hanging up in the air! Plus, the scene at the end was totally ambiguous...or, am I the only one thinking this way?
@Benoit Vanhees, these movies were done over 40 years ago, when attitudes were different. You don't see people drinking and smoking on TV in Europe? And you make comments about the women doing sexy dances, when European television is full of graphic sex and nudity. Talk about hypocrisy.
Best line, 31:50; "Well, it's kinda like when you're tryin' to get close to a broad, commissioner. You bring her to a dirty movie. Maybe you've never had that experience." "I believe I.....know what you mean." Runner -up; "Speaking of action, will I see you tonight?"
Yes, I remember those days very well. I was 31 in '74. I remember those vigilante groups then and even now, in some states they still have them. I also believe in "An Eye for an Eye." Sometimes u have to do what is necessary and set an example. To many loop holes in the law and the guilty go free. Good movie.(ls)
What about the innocent who then go to jail for something they didn't do or the police who kill innocent people either by accident or carelessness. They get off scot-free due to qualified immunity or when the police department investigates it's own and find 'we didn't do anything wrong'. No, there are no loopholes, only the same weapons that are there to protect both the guilty and the innocent, the reason the guilty go free is that the law wasn't followed, except the innocent go to jail and the guilty always go free. Be careful because the vigilantes you talk about may go for the police.
