Filmmaker and Stanford trained physician Dr. Delaney Ruston visited Google MTV to talk about her film "Screenagers: Growing Up In The Digital Age".
"Screenagers: Growing Up In The Digital Age" probes into the vulnerable corners of family life, including the director’s own, and depicts messy struggles over social media, video games, academics and internet addiction. something to consider that might be overlooked is for the parents to spend alot more time with their kids and not allow these devices to replace them as the mental emotional babysitter.

I don't understand why this is toward young people. The film is so bad, but I feel like elders also watch the (if not more) screen time.

I wonder if these kids have more respect for peers who study and play music than they do for their fellow screen addicts. This woman has a big heart.

DARE started talking to kids in elementary schools about drugs and alcohol to the now largest group of kids to be involved with drugs. Talking wasn't the solutions- it's was a start. Please look at HOW the parents of these digital kids are using their own devices and the conditioning they are teaching by their actions. Some things never change....if a young child gets applause/warm fuzzes for reading- they learn to love reading. Seeing and marveling over them using a tablet- will have the same effect. IF a child sees their parents on their devices all the time- why would they be surprised when their kids do it? I sent you an email tonight after viewing the film at a local school. Parents should firstly and most importantly be very MINDFUL of what they are "modeling" with their "attachment" to their use of their devices. It never worked to tell kids to do what I say and not what I do! Too many professionals are afraid to "offend" or step on the parents toes and the kids get cheated! This is not about "blame" it's like functional medicine...finding the root cause and CHANGING IT!

Please add something that talks about even younger kids- like 6- 12 year olds.

I think it is totally fine to have parents let their children use their devices for hrs.
