*This is my second WEN tool and they are both great **MyBest.Tools** I needed to do some trim work around the house and needed a scroll saw for the intricate work. No complaints so far.*

Came up with a hack to reduce vibration.. probably already out there. I cut out a piece of anti fatigue mat foam to match the base of my scroll saw. Works great... waiting patiently for my upgraded saw... delivering next week! Lol...

Thanks for the information Hans. I was a member of the Gwinnett Woodworkers Association for awhile. I had a Hegner scroll saw and loved it. At the time I used Flying Dutchman SR (Reverse Tooth) blades. We moved away seven years ago to Palm Beach County Florida. I now have a Delta 20" 40-694 Scroll Saw. I love it. But, the same blades don't work as well. I have had quite a bit of tear out with them. I don't know why the SR blades aren't working as well on the Delta. Maybe, the blade sits lower from the table top than on the Hegner. Thanks to you, I ordered the Ultra Reverse blades you recommended and they are much better. Thanks for the tip.

Double sided tape and masking tape had passed their use by date. For holding the stack together I used "HMG dowels". Drill holes, 1/8 up to 1/4 through the stack. Place the stack on a metal machine table. Fill the hole with hot melt glue. Dismantle by cutting round them, dril them or a hot air gun and a metal rod. If this is too solid for you then cut v-grooves up the side of the stack and add a HMG fillet which can be chisseled out. Did think about matchstick treenails. As an aside: First came across treenails in a five bar gate repair. The top hinge tennon was bore drawn with a square section, tapered (1/12) dowel, aligned like a diamond relative to the frame grain. The diamond deforms no near circular and becomes compressed in the process! Bake the treenail first to dry it and the rain will do the rest. To do the drawing the dowel had to be VERY long so the tip was small enough fit through the 'misalignment'. Still good ten years later.

I need to drill two holes approximately 1-1/2” apart in 3/16” aluminum and using the scroll saw create an arch / a rounded flap that can fold between the two holes. for my prototype I used a jig saw and although I achieved the arch i needed, it wasn’t as clean as it could have been. I believe a smaller scroll saw blade would allow me to control the cut better and minimize post cut filing and cleanup of the cut. I have an OLD craftsman scroll saw that’s at least 40 years old and uses small pegged blades but I’m not finding blades specific for metal. I’m thinking a high TPI count blade would be best. What I really need is an an expert recommendation for a good metal blade and a good 16-20” scroll saw that would be capable of cutting 3/16-1/4” aluminum.

These videos are very helpful, thank you for sharing. I have an old pin blade scroll saw that I am using to learn. I understand the pin blades aren't good for detailed projects. Are there any project types you could recommend for this type saw?

You won't be able to make small inside cuts but anything from the outside will work. It's great for making puzzles and stand up figures. Making kids toys is enjoyable. That saw may help you determine if you have enough interest to upgrade. There are thousands of people that have bought a scroll saw and decided it was not for them. Buying a used one is a great option.

I think it's sad, that modern technology, laser cutters and gnc machines are removing the skill part, of using man controlled tools.

What was the brand name of your scroll blades and do they sell sets of different blades??
@gwinnettwoodworkers
@gwinnettwoodworkers 4 года назад
Hans used mostly the Flying Dutchman for years but is using some of the Pegas brand now. I have called the seller at times and they sent a sample pack so you could test a couple blades before buying a larger supply.

Why do you have one super long thumbnail and one really short?
@gwinnettwoodworkers
@gwinnettwoodworkers 3 года назад
I accuse Hans of using the thumbnail as an organic sacrificial clamp. It makes a great clamp to hold down a small piece when it is close to the blade.
