It's a travesty that she didn't win it. And what about Bobby? He not only acted, but he also directed and wrote the script. Lola and Bobby didn't win because the award wouldn't properly address their massive talent.

This skit with Lola Heatherton was my first glimpse of this brilliant show one late night during college. I became a die-hard fan after about 30 seconds. After Lola's first laugh. Best comedy sketch show ever.
Bittman is an Extraordinary Talent. "On the Waterfront Again" is a Cinematic Classic and much better than the original with Marlin Brando. Through the years Bobby Bittman has earned Oscars for Best Actor and Best Movie for his work in "Tootsie Again," "Rocky VXII Two," "Rambo Again," "Top Gun Again," "Risky Business Again Etc.," "Another Graduate," "Midnight Cowboy Again," "Gone With the Wind Again," "Apollo 13 Again," "MASH Again," "Deep Throat Again," "The Wrestler Again," "Dirty Harry Again," Harry Potter Again," "Good Fellas Again," "Taxi Driver Again and So Fourth and So On," "Saving Pvt. Ryan Again," "Mary Poppins Again," "The Sound of Music Again," "Easy Rider Again, "Another Gone With the Wind Again," "Saving Pvt Ryan Again and Again," and "American Graffiti Again." Bobby Bittman really earned everything that he has too. I really mean that sincerely.

to be honest and I realize their consummate actors,,, but how can they keep a straight face when they have to? Their style and wit of comedy (great liberal comedy writers) is a perfect 10/10 for me. ...SCTV The Greatest Comedy Troupe Of All Time...
(So much Meta-Humor in under 5 minutes.) Of all of the FINE programs on SCTV, "The Sammy Maudlin Show" was always my favorite because it was so close to the Showbiz Truth. Sammy Maudlin: Joe Flaherty William B. Williams: John Candy Bobby Bittman: Eugene Levy Lola Heatherton: Catherine O'Hara In cameo, Lin Ye Tang (host of another FINE SCTV program, "Doorway to Hell!"): Dave Thomas I put 'FINE" in all-caps because that's the way station president Guy Caballero (Joe Flaherty) used to say it. The original SNL Cast would often equal this level of brilliance, but they never surpassed it.
Love Lola Heatherton and Bobby is sublimely hilarious her name btw is a combination of Lola Falana (Las Vegas act)and Joey Heatherton(singer,actress) I believe Catherine O'Hara said this.

This was the stuff of my youth I watched this show religiously! I miss this so much, they are so hysterical, you really have to know all of these movies and shows to get a lot of it
This was my favorite dramatic sequel. I encourage everyone to see these 2 actors/comedian/singers when they come to your town! Man, I miss this show!!!!
Back in the day, I didn't stay up to watch this stuff all that often, so it's like, all new to me. SCTV is SO much better that SNL. There really isn't a comparison. I love all things Bittman! "HOWAYA, huh huh HA!" Every time he brings a clip in to Maudlin's show, it's totally inappropriate...which makes it HI-larious!
I thought Brando was good but I think Bittman was able to take it to that next level. I would like to have seen Charley played by Bobby's real life brother Skip. It would have made for great viewing.
@stumarston6812 It WAS Skip as Charlie. Don't you remember the taxi scene, the two of them squeezed together, the bitterness oozing from Bobby's semi-blocked pores, while Skip goes through a series of celebrity impressions referencing the other actors in the picture? Incidentally, people sometimes forget it was Charles Nelson Reilly in the Lee J. Cobb role, and Rip Taylor doing the honors as the priest originally played by Karl Malden. The network ran the show only once, to satisfy some cockamamie write-off requirement, and never let it back on air again, which is a shame. Bobby and Lola were sensational, but for my money Jan Murray as racetrack tout "English Dan" (not in the earlier film version) stole the show.
The contrast between this and the garbage that passes for comedy today is tremendous. There is a reason I have not been to a movie theater for comedy in 20 years.
The real magic of Wiliam B is that the mere presence of someone that untalented, that un-charismatic if you will, provides a contrast that highlights the stellar talents of people like Bobby Bittman, Lola Heatherton, and Sammy Maudlin. William B's presence is like the utter blackness of space - it lets us see how bright the stars truly are.
