Great video as always. I always look forward to your approach to mods, very thorough and precise. Testing can be tedious at times but it is what separates us from mediocrity. I've always been hesitant to add weight but it obviously can make a difference when done properly. Look forward to the next one as I'm on the fence with the axial now that the VS4-10 Phoenix has dropped. Thanks for spending your time for us and keep up the great info!

Thanks. It wasn't perfect by any means, but it adds a little data to the library and I'll keep testing. Just about to film TRX4 Bronco vs EMO AT4 with original tires and then they'll swap. Should be interesting. VS4-10 is expected here in about a week. I'll get it built and then we'll see how it goes on the problems and courses here. Cheers

Very Well Done! Excellence as usual 🤜🤛🤟👍! I really appreciate the lower end brass weights, proper weight is Proper! & I have several bands of Crawlers & never had a lower brand not fit or proform bad! Great Job mate!

Thanks. It was a bit incomplete but we'll cover more in part 3. Cheers

I agree that more weight can be more stress on the internals of the car. I would like to see a long term review to see if the added weight had any negative effect....but I assume the motor, gearbox and transfer case were designed for redundancy and can take the added weight with no problem.

I am wondering, did you notice any performance hinder with the Injora's added weight? Maybe, if you would have tested in the previous video the oem wheels, then add the brass weights and after that the Injora wheels, first without, and later with the brass weights, you might've been surprised that the [ever-decreasing] improvement as you noticed here might've made your choice for only using the weights instead of the wheels for pure performance. As with everything, there's a point of diminishing returns. Also, there's quite a difference in putting rotational weight (in the wheels, drivetrain, etc). vs static weight (not to be confused with sprung and unsprung weight). If I could choose, 9 out of 10 times I'd choose static. that one exception being for maintaining a constant speed - even if that is zero-. PS: That 10.43 joyous giggle as it made the problem really made me burst, hahaha!

This was a question of energy and time. I have footage of several lap attempts of Before and After but didn't include them in this video. It was getting too long already! But diminishing returns is correct. It still does better with the brass overall than without, but the wheels made the biggest difference. I think if we had 70g weights for the front and 30-40g for the rear, that would even be better than weighted wheels. No added rotational mass that way and the weight stays constantly lower. I used to make and then buy Beef Tubes, that's brass tubing, to fit inside the axle housings as a sheath around the axles. Some of my comp trucks have this. In any case, you're absolutely right about rotational and static mass. I should have mentioned it. I have good examples to show off. I'll try to find a fitting way to include this in part 3. Good pickup!

@@RCTNT funny that you mention it! Imagine what the Vanquish Phoenix axles have in between the shafts and the plastic casings... A brass hollow tube for both low CG weight and reinforce the casings... Haha. Nice. It seems I'm just beginning to get the fundamentals of this discipline
@RCTNT
@RCTNT 2 года назад
Yep, that's right, it isn't new at all. People have been doing it for years, not just for weight but also for strength in some cases (like the Vaterra Ascender). You already have the fundamentals down, I reckon. It's all just refining it now, a little new knowledge here, some tinkering there, etc. :)

I pulled my gladiator axles, gearbox and hubs apart and all together it had maybe pea size of grease in total and the rig itself had a very loud gear mesh sound and after i added grease it was better i was very disappointed on the gladiator and don't think i will be wasting anymore money on axial products.

I hear you, but don't let the assembly by one employee colour the entire product range (I gently suggest!). When I got the Element Sendero HD, it had numerous problems and crawled awfully. After I went over it and adjusted everything though, it became one of the best performing machines I have! Still, the Sendero was cheaper than the Gladiator by a fair bit and your feeling is completely understandable. But I'd prefer poor assembly and a quality product rather than the other way around! These were made during a pandemic, after all, so it's pretty amazing we're still able to get this stuff! Anyway thanks for weighing in. I'll keep your experience in mind as another data point. Sorry you had a bad first impression!

@@RCTNT Very true but thats just the start of the problems i had with scx10iii i've had scx10-scx10ii and other axial products that have been great out of the box but the scx10iii is in my mind cheap plastic junk toy.

@@danielosmond8346 fair enough. You're entitled to your opinion, of course! (I do think it's overpriced for what you get, but I think we differ beyond that point - and that's fine!) Happy trails, RC brother.

It's on the workbench right now, just fixing that rear drive shaft! Got a good trailer for it, now, too. Just gotta build it!

@@gamerdominicano3949 I'm juggling a lot right now and after a big storm on Thursday we've had no electricity. Crews are working round the clock to restore everything but it might be a while yet. The trailer is the Cross RC T247. It's half done. Getting there! This truck is perfect for a lowboy or heavy hauling trailer of some kind, for sure!

Finally got it out today and half an hour in it dropped the other half of the rear shaft! Same problem, other side of the same shaft. Arg! Clearly a problematic design, the E clips get bumped off by sticks or rocks and then it rapidly disassembles. Very frustrating. Gonna have to look elsewhere for a short drive shaft that fits. Two drives, two failures. Frustrating! (but it was fun before then!)
