really interested to see how this performs with the scx24 electronics and a proper set of tires. i don't like to spend a ton of money upgrading these little guys but this thing is worth the price tag, the hard body alone is a selling point. i wonder if you can just use the stock esc and a tiny battery for the lights and use another esc and battery to run the truck.
Yeah it’s a pretty cool starting point for the price, I’m sure you could use the stock ESC for the lights but the blinkers won’t work and it will run the hazard lights blinking unless you unplug them 🤙🏻
The Scx24 is a cheap piece of shit until you fix it up so if we are just going to completely replace everything why not start off with a cheaper better looking set up. I have a scx24 that we have completely rebuilt it just now feeling like a solid little rig.
Thanks for taking the time to review this but I think if anyone is considering buying one of these they should also watch 2FM RC's review. Just because something looks similar, does not mean it is.
Yes I agree, I watched his video as well and we both had similar problems with the vehicle but slightly different opinions on the truck itself, it’s always good to do research before making a purchase and 2FMRC has some great info as well 👍🏻
I would just stick some V1 or V2 electronics in it, take those two mounting points where the servo hits reverse the screw so they're coming from the outside-in and it might work out
Yeah for sure, this crawler is not great but it’s fun to see other companies jumping into the space, it should lead to innovation from the bigger companies if smaller cheaper ones are trying to nudge in 🤙🏻
looks like any turnegy metal gear servo will just slide in if you cut its ears off. I love them becuase they are dirt cheap. all 4 of my scx24s have turnegy tg9e's
From a scale point of view its a $80 body. I detest hard bodies. Scale is not my thing. Theres nothing on this truck i would use on a scx. I like crawling. If i want to build a crawler ill spend the extra to do a coustome build. So a big POC!
I have the blue power Hobby version of the fox outback, it’s a decent little crawler, the reason this one appeals to a lot of people is because it’s shares a lot of parts with the scx24 and there is a lot of aftermarket support for that model 🤘🏼😎
Where I am in Canada this isn't such a great deal, $85.00 USD = $104 CDN + $25.00 USD shipping/$33.00 CDN = $137 total where an actual SCX24 is around $170. So you save $30 for a not so good crawler. Body is a little nicer but that's about it.
I said this before but I feel like this is just a 1/24th scale Kyosho mini z really. The hard body looks pretty neat and for the price it's kind of hard to not justify getting on to mess around with until you get ready to get an axial.
The steering big problem…can’t replace servo and it’s designed similarly to a cheap Chinese WPL C24 where the servo is also garbage. They got the body right but the engine and servo garbage. Not worth it.
@@UpperLeftRC if your solution is buying a new servo and motor the the price just went up LOL..a panda 1/18 crawler is on sale on sale for $75 on Amain and picked up paid fms portal axle combine the two and walla - you have high performance portal axle crawler for $110 lol
it looks better than the one it copied that is for sure! minor setbacks that can be remedied easy enough. kind of reminds me of an eazy Rc. Nice overview on this one
I would consider purchasing one at a cheaper price...if they didn't include the electronics since it looks like thats the 1st thing to replace. It appears to me by the time you upgrade it, you might as well purchase the Axial.
Yeah that’s pretty much the consensus across the board, the only upside to buying this and upgrading it is that you have a hardbody 1/24 with upgrades for the same price as an scx24. But if that’s not what someone is looking for then I would always recommend an axial over a cheap knock off
Add some stick on wheel weights on top of that servo, I'll bet it would make it up those hills. I think i would buy a scx 24 and go from there. Just my thoughts. And thanks for that great video.
would be great to see how it performs with new smaller tires without the spare back wheel and that drive train rubbing issue sorted out. I bet it would do quite ok. Great video tho!
I'm most curious about how to solve the issue of mounting another servo. I'm sure there's several ways to do it but I'd like to see a really clean solution. Then I'll probably pick one up. Thanks for the very thorough video.
Glad you liked the video and as far as a servo goes I think your best solution would be to swap in a normal micro servo and cut/mod the shock tower and bumper mounting points, using the stock servo cradle thing just doesn’t seem like the way to go 👍🏻
How about this truck for a 6 year old. My little brother has really enjoyed watching some of the rc’s that I have and he told me he wants a small crawler. I don’t wanna get something real expensive for him because like I said he’s only 6 so when I found this I though it would maybe be perfect for him.
For a kid around that age I think this would be great, you save a good chunk of money going with this RC 👍🏻 it’s has its drawbacks if you are trying to legit rock crawl and stuff but if he just wants to drive over stuff and bash it into things it will work great for a first time RC crawler :)
