Hey guys! The thunder saga hit me like a truck, so as soon as I heard this song I knew I had to do my take on (imo) the best song in the track! A few things to note: - The main interpretation by the fandom has Scylla mostly only showing up at the end. Following Jorge's rules about gods vs humans singing (and since Scylla is not a goddess), I have her show up much earlier since she would be singing even at the start of the song. Also, why not have more Scylla? It's her song bro - In my animatic, yes, Odysseus sees her the whole time. In fact, he's mostly the one she shows herself to, seeing as he seems to have more regal looking clothing and commands most of the ship, so her immediate thought is "oh, you're probably the captain." She's absolutely waiting for him to "pay the toll," and is even goading him into it throughout her circling of the ship - As with the main interpretation, yes Odysseus was trying to have Eurylochus killed off by holding a torch. Does he really want to do it? Debatable, he certainly FEELS guilty about it on some level - Eurylochus, in my version, caught onto what was happening a lot faster than in the official animatics. He just didn't wanna give the torch to anyone, seeing as he just confessed earlier to basically being the catalyst to the deaths of the 557 in Ruthlessness. He wants to stop the killing, y'know? Thanks for checking out this animatic, and lemme know if you want me to make more in the future! I already have some ideas for the calypso/ogygia saga when it comes out!
re: your last point - i absolutely ADORE the way eurylocus is not eaten even though he’s holding a torch (because the guy next to him takes the fall, being also close to the torch), then SCYLLA REACHES OVER TO PICK UP THE TORCH THEY EURY DROPPED??? that brings clear sign that she could keep killing the crew, she could have grabbed EURYLOCUS instead of that torch, but Odysseus already “paid” and she’s letting them pass after the sacrifice, really hammering in the “we are the same” with her and Odysseus… Love this!! 💕💕
I'm guessing Scylla (lurking and observing) isn't interacting with anybody before her "Hello" bas has an inner monologue about comparing Ody/or a nameless captain of a random ship with herself for she assumes him to take this route knowing what comes next. That he would willingly sacrifice 6 people to make it thorough her lair. That's why we hear her sing but the men wouldn't. With the "Hello" she was actually talking to them out loud. Meanwhile Ody and Eury have an actual conversation... and things are happening. That's just my guessing and interpretation. We are going to know the exact thing once Jorge brings out his official animated movie 😅👌🏻💙💙 for never was the community more confused about a saga 😂
Scylla INTENTIONALLY sparing Eurylochus, is an AMAZING move. She could have taken him but let's him go just to cause more drama. He was ready for her. Also the way the mouths open is nightmare fuel! Well done.
Scylla picking up the torch and knowingly/proudly, looking at Odysseus, making Eurylochus realize his friend purposely sacrificed him and five others to her was genius! Scylla pushed the last of one's sanity with that move intentionally revealing Odysseus' true colors, and he doesn't even deny it agreeing with her. Chef's kiss! This version of Scylla, the way she lurks in the shadows but directly talks to Odysseus during this was also an interesting take. Her attitude and mannerisms kind of remind me of Eris from Sinbad. I also love how wickedly frightening Scylla actually looks with scales and an opened face revealing shark-like teeth, along with her six other heads in the form of animals. My favorite part is at the end when he Scylla feigns guilt for what she did, only to smirk evilly knowing she's stired the hornets nest before blowing out the candle Eurylochus had. Beautifully done 😊
Amazing!!! Really love how explicitly Scylla talks directly to Ody, instead of just indirectly whispering to him. She looks him in the face repeatedly and says that he's a monster, very good!!
Thank you! A small fun fact about her: Odysseus sees her the whole time she's circling the ship. This means that he KNOWS she's been following them through her lair the whole time, and he has chosen actively not to warn his crew. It's part of why he can't look Eurylochus in the eyes when he looks to Odysseus for orders when they're surrounded!
@@yminity о, да! Я это заметил и мне кажется, это добавило изюминку и блеск в вашу анимацию, как необычные для меня дизайн Сциллы и открывающиеся рты этих..змей? Простите, я совсем не знаю, как их назвать.
Not only is scylla's design AMAZING, but i love the idea that she knows ody's plan and talks directly to him. Aswell as her outing him to Eurylochus. Love the animatic
I really do like his iteration of Scylla. I've been dying to see someone integrate the more dog/hound-like aspects of her original depictions, specifically in her other heads. I also do like the take of her not just being this looming threat of a beast whispering out of sight and killing for the pure sake of survival. Her actions feels intentionally cruel and nefarious. She knows what she is, she knows what she's doing, and she knows that Ody did what he did on purpose, and she tells him that, almost praises him for it. She plays with her food before she eats it, and she thanks the server for bringing it to her.
I like how you have Scylla. She isn't just a monster, she's a hunter, stalking them. She even fools them in this Animatic, she's up to their face, but makes them think she's just approaching, which considering her snakes, works. This also adds to Ody's journey about ruthlessness. With the Sirens, it was easy, they tried to kill him, but now he has to be ruthless with his crew. He hates being this monster now, but Scylla finds it amusing, which probably why she doesn't attack him, even humoring his torches plan when she seems to know what's going on. Scylla is a monster, who, considering her sad expressions, started out hating being a monster to survive, but learned to love being this monster, the glee on her face as she eating them, and the sick joy from exposing the sacrifice to his first mate. This adds to the journey, with Odysseus learn to love being the monster, too, if he continues on this path of ruthlessness? I see why Poseidon doesn't mess with her.
Damn I love this! How she stalks them and taunts Ody, knowing full well what he plans to do and that he’s doing it so he can survive no matter what. She’s genuinely terrifying because even in the feeding frenzy, she’s still fully aware of the game they play and decides to out him to Eury just for shits and giggles. She could have taken him since he had the torch but decided to cause some more chaos instead. She was so playing with her food and seeing a kindred spirit in Ody.
In my mind's eyes I never thought to have Scylla so 'present' as you do in the animatic, and good lord is the effect impressive. Your idea of her appearing to Odysseus (and only him) really sells and deepens the fact that Odysseus is willingly putting his men's life on the line; he seems to only barely remember to shout for the men to row, which really shows just how much of this is a betrayal. Also, on that note, the expression on everyone is great: how conflicted and guilty Odysseus looks, the panic then rage on Eurylochus' look, and just how damn malicious Scylla is. Great stuff all around!
This version of scylla is actually scary, not just a pretty lady with extra limbs that are creepy, HER HEAD SPLITTING OPEN WIDER TO REVEAL TEETH?!! Her lump scaly skin? Ugh, nightmare fuel. Well done!
I love you scylla design and how she stalks and communicates with Odysseus intentionally. If he sailed into her cave he better come prepared to bargain
My prevailing theory is that ody knew that he would sacrifice 6 men, like its a price to pay sylla for passage, but after the confession he tried to sacrifice his friend
I believe Odysseus wanted Eurylochus to die in Scylla’s Lair most likely because he blames everything that went wrong on Eurylochus after he opened the wind bag which is were everything goes wrong, in every animatic (that I’ve watched) Eurylochus held a torch yet survived. Leading to Mutiny.
I love your unique take on Scylla’s mouths! Also love how the sea serpent heads look more like dog heads (to me at least). Not sure if this is what you were going for, but I love it because in the original mythology, her “loins are girded with the heads of baying dogs”. I LOVE this envisioning of her!
I'm surprised this has been the first time I've seen a Scylla animatic remember that mythologically Scylla had Dog heads (Also your take on them was amazing I'm definitely subscribing.) While as design in general (So not talking about your one just the general Dog head design) I do typically prefer the Sea Serpent look (A shown in the official animatic and most others though the official version is my favourite) it's always good to see different versions and your design was incredible.
The award for most horrifying Scylla design goes to this animatic, there is something deeply unsettling about the fact that the heads look normal and then proceed to split down the middle into giant gaping maws
The way Scylla blew out the torch was terrifying in a completely different way, because they were no longer in danger but it served as a warning kind of. 😘👌 chefs kiss
Thank you so much! I wanted to tie into her backstory (She's formerly a nymph), so I tried to include elements of her now warped beauty (i.e. a circlet on her head, her long curly hair being all drenched and tangled from the water, from further away looking almost like a siren/beached maiden)
I love how you made Scylla visible in the background before her big reveal. And how she picked up that last torch, guiding Eurylochus towards the realization
This the more accurate description of Scylla I’ve seen. It is said that she is a nymph that was transform into a monster with dog like heads from her legs. (Story basically guy like nymph. Nymph really don’t like guy. Guy find sorceress and ask her to make a love potion. Sorceress love guy and jealous of nymph. Sorceress poison nymph bathing spot and turned into monster) Many of these video I’ve seen have her with fish heads and some look cool but it was not as described in the story.
Most animatics have Eurylochus passing the torch to someone else in a panic as he tries to help someone, thereby ending up alive just by chance. I LOVE the way it worked out in yours: he held his torch out in front of another crewmate in a defensive way, lit him up and caused him to get grabbed, and only dropped his at the end... And Scylla was the one to point it out to him. Absolutely love it. 10/10 I would love to see this fully animated.
Everything i love about this has already been said but I have to just tell you that i got chills from the f a c e s s p l i t t i n g o p e n That made me very happy, I also think this is the most monstrous version of scylla that ive seen, most people draw her suoer humanoid and sometimes very pretty (not complaining, i love it) but yours feels much more scary for that. ✨✨✨✨
Your design for Scylla with dog faces is actually more terrifying than serpent ones I've seen and those teeth and the way the second head opens sideways was satisfyingly horrifying. The way she shows Eurylochus it was Odysseus' plan is so malicious too! Also, in the first few moments when only her face is shown, I get Greek drama mask vibes, idk if that was intentional, but its super cool!
I love so many things about this!! Your Scylla design, the way she's not just hunting but taunting Odysseus by making him make this choice, the amazing way the monster mouths open!!!!!! Something I've seen in most animatics is that Eurelychus is one of the 6 members holding torches, but he passes it off to someone else to try and save someone. Here he's holding onto it but he's shielding the person directly next to himself, illuminating them and getting them killed. Either way is brutal but I think this is just a smidgen worse. Hoooooly shit!!!
I love your Scylla design. Some animators seem to just depict her as a pretty lady attached to a bunch of serpents I LOVE how monstrous you made her! Especially the serpent heads splitting open in different ways! Well done!
I genuinely love the fact that you portrayed it as scylla seeing Odysseus like her and her being infront of him but not devouring him is so amazing to me provo 🎉🎉❤❤
Love the dog elements thrown in! After reading on wikipedia that in the original myth it was dog heads that sprung from her waist the image hasn't left my head, so it's awesome to see it incorporated here. I love your Scylla design in general- especially how her sad face looks almost like a mask while her gleeful one is much more emotive, and her open mouth destroys any doubt it's anything but a monster's face. Fantastic job!
This is great and appropriately dark. Scylla's earlier entrance feels right and goes with the temptation to take the easy path and just pay the toll which present in the song.
Ooooooo boy oh boy. First off i love/hate the way Scylla's jaw opens omg real shivers! Second her picking up the torch in front of Eury to put the pieces togather wow just wow 🎉😢❤
Oh man, I really like this version of Scylla. Not only is she nightmare fuel, but the fact she actually talks directly with Odysseus and Eurylochus and blows out the torch like a candle at the end speaks far louder of Odysseus was aware of what is going to happen leading to the Mutiny in the next song.
A refreshingly different take on the song, love the story being woven through this version with Scylla having a bigger degree of agency as opposed to just accepting the nom-nom tax.
What I hope to see Sora (Kingdom Hearts) as, in order to finally even the balance of what DiZ and Riku did to Roxas and Xion. No, I don't care if they "forgave". They were gaslighted into it. And if the current cast is too blind to see that, they'll learn through fire the truth behind what they did.
