Part One:
Relying on the guidance you received in this week's lecture, you will assess the sear angle in your 1911 and discuss why this is an important angle to consider when assessing the operation and safety of a firearm. The sear angle will be assessed while the firearm is fully assembled.
Part Two:
You will disassemble your 1911 and, after doing so, you will assess the fitment of certain components/assemblies within your firearm. You will find three from the list below using a random number generatorLinks to an external site..
Sear-to-hammer fit
Disconnector-to-sear fit
Disconnector-to-frame fit
Slide-to-frame fit
Ejector fit
Extractor fit
Barrel bushing fit
Plunger tube fit
Trigger fit
Firing pin stop fit
Link fit
Locking surfaces fit
Grip safety fit
Thumb safety fit
Part Three:
Directed by any fitment issues you found when performing the requirements for part two, you will assess and detail the work that could be performed to improve the fitment issues. You may also consider gunsmithing work and aftermarket components.
Part Four:
Relying on the guidance offered in this week's lecture, you will polish the trigger, disconnector, sear, sear spring, and hammer. After doing this, you will reassemble the firearm and assess any improvement you may notice. The polishing and reassembling requirements for this part of the video can be performed off camera, however, the before and after conditions of the components need to be shown on camera.
Part Five:
You will perform a dry and dummy ammunition function check and share the results with your instructor. This should include your assessment of the safety systems, the trigger reset, and all of the steps within the cycle of operations.
Part Six:
You will perform a "drop test" as specified in the lectures for this course.
Video Requirements and Resources:
The student's video submission should not exceed 5 minutes and should include all criteria listed in the grading rubric.
For a guide on submitting large files via a shareable link, please click here Links to an external site.
If this assignment requires outside sources, you will need to verbally cite your sources in your video. Your brief verbal citation should include the author of the publication (if applicable) and/or website, the title of the publication, and the date (if available). When introducing the source, use a simple introductory phrase such as, "According to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, the shotgun is the only firearm allowed for use in turkey hunting in wildlife management areas." Or, "In his article Shotgun Malfunctions, from Guns.com, Clint Smith argues that the Remington 1100 is a better choice than the Remington 1187 for self-defense."

Hey Josh I'm working on this same project now. If you don't mind me asking what grade did you get on this assignment and was there anything the instructor suggested you add?

Thanks for watching! I got a 28/28. The feedback I got was about hitting the safety and hammer areas a bit harder with the hammer during the drop simulation portion of the video.

@@tyrofirearms great! Thanks for the info. It definitely helps out having an example of the assignment to know what they’re looking for.
