This video is a "how I did it" video and not really meant to be a "how-to" video.
In this video I show how I connected my SDRplay RSP1 SDR receiver to my Samsung Galaxy S4 Android Smartphone using the SDR play driver and SDR Touch App.

a suggestion, you can use a bluetooth mouse to move the frequency more easily

This review does not show that you can expand the actual frequency resolution by doing the opposite of a pinch and making the frequency display get wider and more precise. I find knowing that really helps when you want to get to the correct frequency visually...

Why type of Galaxy S4 did you use (ie. SGH-M919, SCH-I545, ...)?

Excellent video. I tried this program but with the short use of the spectrum display in the demo mode I could not fully evaluate it before I purchased it. They should have allowed at least 5 minutes as it takes a while to change things so you can see how well the program works.

Thanks Tom! I agree, the demo is a bit short. However, I usually use this set up for casual listening so it's not been too much of a problem for me. In other words, once I get a station tuned in I leave it there and listen. I save my Dx'ing / band scanning activities where the spectrum display is really needed for the shack where I have my computer and other software packages available.

I look forward to seeing your results if you do end up trying this. I expect you should have decent luck, especially if you put your phone in airplane mode to limit the amount of RF it generates. I haven't done any hard-core experimenting/observations with my set-up but there is definitely a lower noise floor when I get away from the house. However, when I'm in the field I usually have just a random length wire antenna at a low elevation compared to the 80/40 meter fan dipole I have at home so the benefits of a lower noise floor are somewhat offset by the inefficient antenna. I have just bought a R820T and I'm having issues connecting it to my phone for some reason. Using a 4 port 2.0 Usb bar powered by 5V 1A with a male to male USB coupler on the sending end for my phones factory data/charging cable as a makeshift OTG to connect to my Sony Z5 Premium. My phone has a safety where I must detect the USB first before it will work. My phone will detect the USB is connected but, SDR touch doesn't detect the device in my usb bar, and I cannot detect any other usb devices in the bar either. I know for a fact that it supplies data, as I use it on my computer a lot. I also know that my phone didn't supply power through it's hub too. Anyone have any idea? :(

Just discovered your excellent video. With an interest in running my sdrplay rsp1a on my Samsung android tablet, I assume the same approach applies. I was wondering if there's a shielded USB cable available to connect the sdrplay unit directly to the tablet without adaptors? I'd like to minimize a field package. Thanks for your thoughts, Michael

The only driver I can find on Google Play is one for RTL2832U. There is an Android driver on the SDRPlay website, but it says "developers only", and doesn't support Android 7.0, which is what I have.

Hello. If I want to connect my SDRplay RSP1 or the newer SDRplay RSP2 Pro to my Sam,sung Galaxy Tab 4, 10.1 inch tablet, what is the best brand and type of accessory I wound need to make the connection? Thanks Sheldon.

60 whole seconds for the RF scope trial, eh? Wow, you can really get a "feel" for a feature like that in a whopping 60 seconds...lol I get the need to limit a feature like that but 60 seconds isn't near enough time to truly sample it. That's just plain ridiculous.

I tried this with my Asus ZenFone 5Q and it did not work. All I got was this error message: "No compatible devices found (Make sure your USB device is connected, properly powered and your phone/tablet supports USB host mode)"

1) You MUST provide a D.C. supply to the RSP: To do this you use an external USB hub complete with its own 5 V supply.

Just saying that i know of I've never seen where it tells you to tune a station before turning it on i turn it on all the time then tune but i guess for what ever reason if you have a bigger antenna you must probably think that's going to put to much power out or something😄 thanks for the laugh.

Actually you can't see anything because you didn't bother putting the camera where it should have been. And i got it for free just not going to say how i did it.
