Some of my best Cod have come from this particular spot over the years, it's one of my favourite Bristol Channel Sea Fishing marks. There's something very special about this place, always a pleasure being there and the fish are a bonus! South Wales Sea Fishing has always been a big part of my life, it's what I do and I would be lost without it. It does wonders for mental health and keeps the mind healthy!

Message from my Dad, Terry Huntley, who doesn’t have RU-vid (but loves watching it) - Hi Gareth, I had 2 1/2 very happy years living on the Lighthouse Park from ‘72-‘74. It was then a caravan park. Being from Cardiff and have lived in Mid Wales for many years. I used to fish with Man of Steel Angling Club and Newport Sea Anglers. I have so many very happy memories of fishing at St Brides and all the wonderful characters I met along the way. Maybe some of your older viewers will remember them!😊 Alf and Pat Berry, Fred Bacon, Big Bill and Tony Hart (who I still think fishes with Newport Sea Anglers) The fishing back then as always with the upper Bristol Channel was tough but the Autumn run of Whiteing, Winter Flounders and Silver Eels in Spring could be amazing (also the odd Cod and large Conga Eel came my way) I spent a winter living in my teepee in the old vegetable garden at West Usk Lighthouse (97-98) and had many wet cold but wonderful days digging Lug Worm. Also, I discovered a large Rag Worm bed which I was very careful to not over dig (and never told my closest angling mates where it was) 😂 Health, time of life and distance makes it near impossible for me to do it now. Your lovely videos and open hearted personality are a joy to watch. I wish you and yours all the very best into the future and I’ll continue watching!😊

Thank you for the comment Terry, I enjoyed reading it and no doubt you have many more stories to tell, the memories you have will last forever. Interesting to hear that you lived on the Lighthouse Park, I looked into living there myself but you have to be 50 years of age, another 7 years and I'll qualify ha! Like yourself, Dad and I used to dig lugworm next to the West Usk Lighthouse back in the 80s/90s, great times they were. Well done on finding the Ragworm bed, I don't blame you for keeping it a secret ha! I never came across it, must have been looking in the wrong place 😂. I love the area, It's just a nice place to be. Ok, the fishing isn't as productive as further west but for me nowadays it's just about getting out and spending a few hours next to the water, I'm not too worried about catching fish anymore. We probably crossed paths when you lived in your teepee as we used to park in the carpark of the West Usk Lighthouse and we'd give Frank the owner a few pounds for his charity box. I'm a bit late but just wanted to echo the other comments and say welcome back. You certainly nailed it with this one. On a big tv and surround sound you take me back to my teens, fishing alongside my Dad. Of course nothing beats experiencing it all in person but from the fabulous dawn light, gently waving bladderwrack, occasional small flocks of birds battling the elements and, alas, not catching much [!], you capture the experience so well. As others have said, give me quality over quantity any time. Thank you Gareth, your efforts are very much appreciated.

Thank you Wayne, that's nice of you to say, I appreciate it. Sounds like you have some good memories of when you fished with your Dad, memories which last a lifetime. Yes that's it, not many fish feature in my videos and that's because the marks I fish are not as productive as they once were. But I just enjoy spending a few hours next to the water and admiring the surrounding wildlife etc, that's what it's all about for me nowadays. Cheers for watching 👍

Hi Gareth, I love watching your vlogs and always a positive attitude. My In-laws lived in LLantwit Major way back in the 70s - 80s when me and my wife where visiting and I fished many of the marks from Barry to Porthcawl back then. The info was not as good then as there was no Internet, only the local tackle suppliers and the Angling Times!!! My first foray into sea angling was at Rest Bay with an old Pike rod and line, two locals took me over to the south of Porhcawl to a mark where I caught my very first Doggy. Those two guys have always stuck in my mind and that Doggy. Its great to see you fish some of my old haunts where I'm most likely never to see again and which brought back so many happy times in South Wales. Please carry on with the good and the bad, as that's fishing and there's not one among us that haven't blanked on the day. Ho, found my first Clay Pipe digging Ragworm at Penarth back in the summer of 75!!!! Happy days.

Hi Brian, thank you for the comment, I enjoyed reading it. Sounds like you have some great memories of when you fished those marks back in the day and I'm sure you have many stories to tell...such as finding the clay pipe whilst digging ragworm! I used to live just up the road from there, in Thornbury, but never fished the stretch until a few years ago, when I went across from Cardiff to Littleton-upon-Severn. Haha thanks Matt, those eels are never too far away from me, they like to follow me around I think! Nice, glad that you got to fish this stretch, some nice marks in fairness. I guess I'm naturally a deep thinker, hence the emotional and deep conversations...the older I'm becoming the more I try to make a difference and if my videos help people to relax etc, then that's great. Hello Gareth, it's great to see you again and I'm pleased you've had some time for a reset, we all need to do that from time to time. The camera work as usual was fantastic and the intro shots were truly stunning. I, and I'm sure everyone else who watches, appreciates the amount of time and work that you put in to make these videos and to do so whilst working full time is remarkable. It was good to see the cheapy old boat rod making a long awaited return and to say I'm shocked that it blanked is an understatement, are you sure you put any hooks on 😂 Those wet rocks look treacherous and just before you slipped, I was thinking to myself how dodgy it was walking on them. Thanks for another great video mate and I'm pleased for you to realise that doing RU-vid is to suit you and not vice versa, life's far too short to spend any of it doing things that become a chore, apart from work of course, we're all cursed with that, unless it's a pleasure, which it usually isn't for most people. You take care of yourself Gareth and I wish you a very happy Christmas and New Year, and as the outro song said, "every soul is an island", take care of yours mate and catch you on the next one.

Thank you Steve, I appreciate the kind words. Yes definitely, taking some time out was beneficial as I feel better for it. A lot of people think that being a RU-vidr is glamorous but it's not, it can break you at times but I'll have a different approach/mindset from now on and that will enable me to enjoy it a lot more. Ha yes, I couldn't believe the cheapy old boat rod let me down, I think that's a first... there's always next time though! Those rocks can be lethal when wet, I've probably slipped on them hundreds of times in the past but thankfully no serious injuries as of yet! Nice little session though, that sunrise early on was incredible, a great sight. Thank you for the continued support and I hope you have a great Christmas and New Year! Cheers and take care 👍👍😍

Keep fishing and keep hold of those memories man.I’m from Northampton so do a lot of sea fishing maybe twice a month but when I watch your vids I’m on the beach yourself and frugal outdoors are the best sea fishing channels just great fishing and chat no advertising and awesome scenery once again great vid

Awesome to see you back buddy! Have a great festive holiday. A little tip from an old man that used to fish all along the wall, get yourselves some knee pads like carpet fitters wear. They saved me from many a battered knee cap on those slippery rock. It makes kneeling down to bait up a much more comfortable experience too. Me and my mate started wearing them when we fished Cold Knap, and they were so good, we'd wear them on most sessions.

Ah yes, I can see the sense in using those knee pads, I'd never thought of those to be honest, thanks for the suggestion! I've lost count of how many times I've slipped on those rocks over the years. Fantastic to see you back out again, hope you didn’t hurt yourself too bad when you fell on those wet rocks looked a sore one. Hope you’re feeling a bit better for your break away from RU-vid I can imagine it could quite stressful at times trying to film and fish which does sort of defeat the purpose of going fishing. Thank you Stephen, I appreciate the kind words. Ha yes, my left knee is a little bruised but it's fine thanks. Those rocks can be lethal when wet and I've slipped so many times over the years. Making videos is not easy and it can take away the enjoyment of just going fishing as you say and that's why I needed to step away for a bit, needed to recharge those batteries and get myself right again.
