I massively appreciate the scenery shots and overview of the mark that you're fishing. Myself and my father use your videos to work out where is good to fish as we are very inexperienced on the local marks! Keep up the great work.

Thanks mate, appreciated as always. Yeah it can be a little tricky, I did slip a couple of times when filming, you may have noticed ha! Although I find the side I was on is a little easier than the other side, not so steep and better for landing fish. Hopefully more to come soon, cheers for watching! 👍👍

Well done Gareth another great video, I always enjoyed fishing Friars Point with my mates years ago and we always seemed to catch something. Nice to hear from you again Rob. Thank you, I do my best to make videos which are enjoyable to watch, this explains why I miss so many fish ha! Many of my subscribers have never fished in their life but they enjoy the scenery etc. Nice little session in fairness, the smaller fish kept me busy throughout, water must have been black with them! Didn't get a touch on the bigger baits, strange as something usually turns up there. Hope all is good with you, cheers as always! 👍👍

Thank you Matt, appreciated as always. Yeah that's it, I always like to have a flapper rig out there as it can often produce a few fish, especially if the big baits aren't doing much and to be honest, I'm happy to catch anything these days. Not to worry, I've gone 5/6 weeks without filming as sometimes it's not possible with work/family commitments etc. I sometimes go fishing, like last Sunday for example, and leave the camera in the house, nice just to fish and not have to worry about the filming u. All the best for Monday, I'll have my fingers crossed for you. Cheers mate 👍👍

Great vid Gareth, especially enjoyed the story of the bass with your dad, great that you share these memories. I fished there last Friday evening. It was heaving down there. Had to fish the point unfortunately. Wind was horrendous and holding bottom was impossible, but it was my first time there, so live and learn as they say…. And I blanked lol.. Anyhow off to the foreshore tomorrow evening see if my luck changes… Have a fantastic weekend mate.. see you on the next adventure. ( Happy days ) 🙂👍🎣

Thank you Matt. Unlucky on last Friday's session, sounds like it was a tough one but as you say, we live and learn. To be honest, these days I only fish Friars during the week on afternoon/early evening tides (work permitting) as it seems to be less busy...I had it to myself when I filmed this one, two guys turned up and fished the other side just as I was leaving but that was it. I reckon you'll have a few fish down at the Foreshore tomorrow, good chance of Codling too! Glad you enjoyed the Bass story, seems like it was only yesterday...I do enjoy reminiscing, nice to keep those memories alive. Cheers mate, have a good weekend and all the best for tomorrow! 👍👍

@riversidewithme Год назад
Hi Andrew. Beachley, Sudbrook and Black Rock are three which spring to mind, just watch the rip on the big tides. All of these marks can produce Codling at this time of the year. Cheers 👍👍

@riversidewithme
@riversidewithme Год назад
@@andrewwintle1596 Personally, I wouldn't fish any of those marks on a tide bigger than say an 11.3m tide as the rip can be strong. Maybe try St Brides or Goldcliff first, nice easy marks and not too far from Chepstow. Goldcliff can be fished on the smaller/medium tides and St Brides can be fished on the medium/bigger tides... I've done videos on both which you may find useful. You can also park close to where you fish. For Goldcliff, park on the road next to the Seawall Tearooms and just walk up the steps. For St Brides, park in the little carpark next to the Lighthouse Inn, if no room park on the road before it, beyond the double yellow lines. Then walk up the steps and pick your spot, loads to choose from. St Brides can be fished on tides of upto 12.6m.

@riversidewithme

Saturday will be fine as the tide isn't that big although you may not be able to fish that early, hardly any water. High water is 15:23pm and so I would arrive for around 11am.

Hi Gareth, where is the best place to park to access Friars Point. I have arthritis in my hip so wouldn't want to park too far away. It looks reasonably flat getting there.
@homer1033
@homer1033 Год назад
Hi bentlegs taffy, besides the main car park and walk up the slope to the point which can be a struggle if the arthritis is bad, the best and only other place is to drive onto barry island itself and drive up the road behind the promenade (Paget Rd) where the chip shops are and park at the top and then walk along the point

I have never had a whiting go back alive from beach, rock, or boat.. even with as much nursing as possible. Even the larger ones... what am I doing wrong?
@riversidewithme
@riversidewithme Год назад
They certainly don't go back very well. A couple didn't make it during this session although in fairness the ones that were cleanly hooked swam off fine. I sometimes have a bucket of fresh seawater next to me and I put them in there for a few minutes, that often helps. Shame they weren't as hardy as other species, never nice seeing them float.

That looked like a fun session Gareth. I was amazed how early you arrive at a venue to get footage. That's commitment for you!! How many hours in total on average would you spend at a venue? Thanks once again for the video.
@riversidewithme
@riversidewithme Год назад
Thank you David, I hope you are enjoying your time off. So if I'm filming, I would be at the venue for an extra three hours or so than if I was just fishing. For example, when I filmed this, I arrived at 10:30am and left at around 5:30pm. I'll be honest, it's pretty exhausting and it's the hardest thing I've ever done, drains you both mentally and physically, although I'll keep going for now ha! Cheers as always, have a great weekend! 👍👍

@@riversidewithme Well from a viewers point of view, the time you spend is worth it. That's why your channel keeps growing so quickly and is so successful! I am certainly enjoying my time off. Last week, I caught a PB which compared to some of your catches is insignificant. I caught a small Port Jackson Shark which weighed about 5lbs and 15 inches long. We don't get very big catches off the beaches here so the shark was a good catch. Hope you have a great weekend too Gareth,.

@riversidewithme

Personally Colin, I've never fished there with lures as the water clarity isn't the best but I think it would be worth a go as the Bass there come in close to feed over the kelp and rocks.
