This is one of the most informative videos on the flutter kick, as of yet. Sadly, I still struggle with this but I'm excited to try your drills. Everyone so far tells me to point my toes... But when I do that, I find i'm burning a TON of energy and it exhausts my legs FAST. I'm excited to try your drills. I'm going to do them before and after my swims. Hopefully, I'll remember to update my post in a few weeks to keep you informed of my progress. THanks again!

Very clear. I have huge problems with this kick, really slow and tiring. Any coaches always say it "looks" fine. But I'm obviously doing something wrong when it takes me 2 minutes to kick a 50. I'm giving swimming a break right now because it was getting more frustrating than fun, maybe it's time to try one of your classes.

I loved seeing the waterline pass by while going underwater and especially coming out of the water! I just loved it!❤️

Your lesson is well done, pointing out technicalities with demonstration. I like how incorrect technique is described and what feelings are indications of them--that part is very helpful. Thank you!

I find that this is a very good exercise, if you sink, it means you kick isn't efficient and bad. I always find myself having a hard time keep my mouth above the water flutter kicking vertically.

Good video, good exercise, you have taken your time to explain it properly (most video's don't...) Do you have an exercise that helps 'connecting' the kick to your stroke? That is the difficult part for me! Thanks, Reinoud, triathlete Amsterdam The Netherlands

Thanks. It's was very helpful. I have a question: You mention that we feel the pressure on the front of the foot when kicking in an upright position. Should we also think about the pressure of the back of the foot? Or asked differently, when elite swimmers are swimming freestyle / backstroke, is the front or back part of the foot in play? I was thinking that with freestyle, it will front & with backstroke, it will be the back part of the foot? But if I try that during a vertical kick drill, I realize that I have to consciously keep my toes pointed to the bottom of the pool, which make me rigid in the thighs. What I should / shouldn't be doing? thanks.

+timerwentoff Great question, here's a long overdue reply: When learning this, think of having a relaxed ankle so that the water pressure flattens (points) your foot to the bottom of the pool. If you point your toes too actively, then, yes, your leg tightens up too much or too early. Later, you can also definitely explore the upbeat or sole of your foot as well, but this should come after you've made some significant progress with the relaxed ankle leg snap, first.

I tried this recently. I have problem. When my lungs are full with air, only then my head is above the water. When I exhale to get another breath, my head sinks below water level which makes me panic. My back and feet are in a straight line though. It's just the breathing which I still can't get a hold of. Anybody knows what I'm doing wrong?

I have no problem with my kicking at the time of vertical standing in swimming pool but I have problem with my water scaling technique . I can't last more than 2 minute by standing in the water . Any tips??

it is too much rotation for pool swimming. the one google in, one out rule is rarely followed by triatheles as they swim in open water and dont have a black line down to follow so they need to look up properly to see where they need to go.

Kicking is my next focus of practice, it's inevitable to learn how to kick in order to balance the body, though my eventually goal is 2 beat kick, cannot skip this practice, thank you for sharing the video
