As someone who never knew monkey island existed, I was skeptical of this crossover. Therefore I decided If I was gonna enjoy this I would need to get familiar with monkey island. Currently playing monkey island special edition and I honestly love the humor. I hope it translates well into sea of thieves.
I don't understand how someone can be scepticle of a crossover after admitting you know nothing of the game, doesn't make sense.. You have no knowledge to base your scepticism on..?
@@dar4061 because it was exactly that, something unknown, felt they were running out of ideas, felt like it wasn't gonna have the factor of familiarity that pirates of the caribbean had that made it so enjoyable
I honestly think this is the perfect crossover. The current SOT storyline is very serious, so it's nice to have a sort of comedic break with another beloved pirate IP.
I'm so excited for this, Monkey Island was such a huge part of my childhood, played so much of them with my brother working out puzzles and excitedly telling each other we think we have the solutions to difficult puzzles. But I REALLY hope it's significantly better than POTC, that was such spectacular ass. The whole story was people appearing, saying 3 words, and disappearing again. That wasn't even a story it was just a rapidly edited fanfic with a $10 budget.
Thanks for the education lesson on Monkey Island! I was going to go into the story blind, but having at least a bit of backstory will hopefully enhance the experience.
I had wanted to play monkey island for a long time and when I saw the sea of thieves crossover trailer I was concerned that it was going to be too goofy, so I played the ultimate talkie edition of the first game. I’m hooked, I’m a huge monkey island fan and absolutely giddy at whatever rare has in store for us
3:59 so "no religious imagery" but voodoo, ocean gods, (davy jones and calypso), literal afterlife, and other dark magic is fine i highly doubt they are gonna remove a church, a lil setpiece thing, for the sake of "not having religious imagery"
The Sea of Thieves is a contained pirate universe that exists outside of historical context. Adding a Christian Church establishes the world as European instead of the distilled fictional pirate land it currently is. Rare also isn't trying to convert anyone or create a place of worship so if there's not a story reason it 110% needs to exist, it makes sense to avoid real-world religion. The in-world magic may be inspired by voodoo but it is treated in lore and gameplay as any other natural occurence. It's not any more of a miracle than the palm trees. It requires no faith, has no doctrines, and isn't controversial.
@@thugpug4392 but the sea of thieves is located in the caribbean(in the first couple minutes of the game you see a map, which when matching up the names and islands, shows the sea of thieves is actually located around the caribbean, not 100% confirmed official lore, but still) and why would they remove it? it wouldnt even have to be a Christian church, just a setpiece they arent trying to convert anyone, but why wouldnt they just keep it in? it would make sense to keep it in, even in the lore sense, since the island is being taken from the game, and the church is in the game and we already have european styled things in the game(the spanish-themed forts all over) tldr: i dont see why they cant just leave it in, makes sense lore-wise and game wise
I can’t wait for this. Trying the return to monkey island game right now just to get some feel for the game. (Game pass does not have the originals so I can’t play them)
Now we know that the first Talltale keeps place in the Townsquare and the Scummbar. The second keeps place on the whole Melee Island and the third keeps place on Monkey Island itself.
I know Monkey Island but never really played it and dont know much about the games but I thought the Dialogs were funny. I had to smile here and there and the riddles were interesting enough to keep me playing. So for someone who dont have nostalgic feelings about this its still a good Talltale.
Oh, i would like monkey island after the return to monkey island, as the story isnt finished and leaving the shops like locksmiths and map store not there takes out the puzzle element of finding little things
And maybe, just maybe, we set sail on it and at the end of lords of the sea, calypso says “Remember jack, you made her a promise” and then they left with gold thingy so is the governor the one jack promised to?
I first saw the update and thought "oh this is silly i wonder what will be nitpicked about this" i didnt think i would get this much content. thank you captain falc- gene. Captain Gene Genie? Robin williams Aladin Yes, good.
I hope we get some nice rewards this time in the tall tale like some ship cannon flairs or something else and not some ugly ass sht like in pirates life with that sunken sorrow ship set that was awful
Honestly Im not feeling this at all. Never played Monkey Island and don't plan too. If I want more tall tales, I want them to continue the SoT story and not some crossover...except Pirates Life 2
Cruel irony that your location speculation dropped a day before Rare's "Whistle stop tour" video... time for a part 2 of you just re-acting to the scenery?
I know it's just a small thing, but if its true rare removed the church because they want no religious stuff in the game, that is a bit ridiculous. And im pretty sure why they do this as well, "because that makes the game less inclusive" or whatever 😂
