Met him once at a book signing. Met him and his team once in Chau Doc, Vietnam, immediately before the Tet offensive. His team came back off their mission up river, and mainly cleared the VC out of our city, during the following 3 days. His team lost one man. His account is in his first book, Rogue Warrior. They were camping out in our compound for a few days. He referred to our CO as Colonel Shit&Polish.(he wasn't wrong).

Met him y e a r s ago. I gave him my package for my transfer from USMC to US Navy/ BUDs. I asked him for help as this was during the Clinton administration. Graduated class 218 and then on to Tm.3. Thanks Marcinko!

In the early ‘90’s you inspired me to do something more with my life. 25 years of service and getting to the SWCC community I salute you sir! I was also a SERE instructor for Seals/SWCC’s in Coronado upon retirement and still work the SERE job in Maine. I always told the students at CQT when I was there as the LCPO that one of the greatest feelings in life are to know that YOU are the reason someone else worked to achieve something greater than they could have done on there own. You sir were abs still are my inspiration. Got to see you in person at Bud/s but never got to talk to you. You’ll live forever in the countless people you’ve inspired. Hoo Yah!

He was interviewed on live TV during the Waco siege. When asked how he would handle the situation he said words the effect that he would order Seal Team 6 to 'Silently infiltrate the compound at night, work room to room, building to building killing all armed men, and securing the women and children.' The interviewer was shocked. "You would kill all the men? " Marcinko answered, "Well, if they're holding their women and kids hostage and threatening to kill them, why not? Fair game. It would be easy for Six to hit that compound and rescue the hostages. It''s what they are trained to do, and they do it very well, I might add." The rest of the guest panel were a little shocked and they quickly moved on to another 'expert'.

@@gapshot5065 Yup. All a sham. But at the time, that was the party line and Marcinko's comments were only based on published reports, not actual intel. I just thought it was funny how the idea of killing was abhorrent to reporters even though the belief was that innocent lives were threatened.

It was his opinion on the matter with no intel....holy crap the people on here. “They weren’t holding hostages”, “military can’t fight against civilians”.....it was a talk show and he gave his opinion as to what Seal Team 6 would do....geez

Yeah he's one well respected SEAL, ( they all are)... I also met Dick Marcinco during a book signing for red cell in 92/93 and he's a stand up guy. I am a USN Navy vet, Gunner's Mate 2nd class who served aboard Knox and Perry Class Figates, and the thought crossed my mind about trying out for the SEALS. It takes an intense individual with the physical stamina and mental capability to make through BUDS. Let alone anyone who tries out for any of our special forces deserves respect. Also the countless young folks who enlist in the military. I hope the current occupiers in the White House see's this but I dont have much faith in bidens administration.....

WOW!!... haven't seen his face in awhile!!...This Guy is a Legend in the Frogman community, he ate, lived and slept Spec-Op life, created many tactical SOP's that are in use today...was considered one of the hardest commanders around, because he trained with such high intensity!!...But was always respected, a bit of a Rouge among heavy weight officers, but they also knew his team always got the missions done!!...His annual budget request for training ammo exceeded most regiments, Richard or as they called him "DICK" Marcinko is considered one of the best frogmen of the Navy's history....mad respect to you Mr Marcinko and TY for everything you did and sacrificed for our country!!

Read his book before I went to Afghanistan in 2001. Got back on ship and hit the first libbo port Perth. First drink was Bombay sapphire at noon. Woke up on the floor of a restaurant that night. Good times

I bumped into him at SHOT Show 2005 and I was working at Ford Motor Company at the time. While drinking a beer I was discussing what I did and his team was interested in SVT/Harley Davidson truck. Marcinko was trying to develop a working relationship with one of the Big Three. He had plans for an “All America Tour” which would involve all Americans companies and touring the USA, honoring first responders and families of fallen servicemen. In exchange, he would have liked to have been involved in management training and helping develop/spec a “Rogue Warrior Truck” (think “Raptor”). Ford was not interested as they stated that many in the USA were anti-war. Godspeed, brother. I appreciate you and all of your team. I wish things could have been different. Thanks for all.

I remember being in my early teens and seeing him being interviews on 60 minutes on how Seal Team 6??? (not sure) infiltrates secure operations bases and subs...cool stuff. His team embarrassed a few higher ups due to their effectiveness and stealth methods he helped develop. One of the reasons I joined the Navy. We need more men like this man.

I agree. Something funny, though, and that’s that men with this kind of mindset aren’t wanted very much. They put him in jail for his efforts to harden Navy security, after all. I did 20 years in Navy security and I can tell you this, if you had the mindset that you should conduct security training and operations with the worse case scenario in mind you’d be called a “complainer” and shunned by most leadership. It’s absolutely true. Hard training, creativity, thinking like the enemies that might attack you, having the men thinking of themselves as unbeatable warriors… none of this was wanted by leadership in Naval security. Only one officer I knew that was placed in charge of a large Naval security unit in Italy after 9/11/2001 wanted these things. I worked directly for him for a brief period of time. He was a SEAL and all the young Sailors looked up to him. I won’t say his name and I won’t say what happened to him, even though it broke my heart to see. Some out there reading this may know that story. RIP CDR M.

Marcinko was one of the few people who truly understood the growing threat of international terrorism during the "quiet" 80s and 90s. I came in the Army as an intelligence analyst in 1990 and had a lot of interest in terrorism and COIN when few other people cared about it. I had a few of his books and his Red Cell video documentary I watched several times. I still have it. Later in my career I went SF and deployed to OIF.

The Lebanon issue of 1983 was what sent me to a recruiter, the WRONGEST move I had to do with the Navy. Fine Print "Needs of the NAVY" were what the BUD/S Chief in San Diego informed me at the same he informed me "The SEAL Teams Exist", & yes it's voluntary but YOU can't volunteer cause your rated "Critical"! Whoo Cares Critical Schmitical my azzical! Ruined the Navy for me for a decade before be'in medicaled overboard. Hoo Yah & BZ 🐸

Recently got to watch Frogmen, the movie Marcinko is talking about here. It’s such an awesome flick. ‘Frogmen’ is legit. I recommend it. Kind of a niche market but it would be awesome if Hollyweird remade that today.

There are very few Men who can shine a light to Marcinko's legacy. Our country is where it is because we really don't have men like him in our service anymore (i.e. it used to be steel men and wooden ships and now it's wooden men and steel ships). What happened to REAL leadership? What happened to real men? What happened to patriotism? I know we have countless serving and I say we honor you and we can't thank you enough. But as a country, we must ask ourselves what happened? We have a corrupt media who likes to bad talk the U.S. every chance they get. That's a big part of the problem. And now we have a "woke" military that has lost direction. Somehow, someway, we need to correct course. PC is destroying us. I encourage all, vote accordingly, write to your senators how you feel. If you care about the U.S., please wake up and do something to get us back on the right track! God Bless All!

I know that many of your SEAL Military are people who are talented in many disciplines. I was thinking if any of you might know and have a solution on the technology which is run over person’s iPhone; some type of harm set up based of Alarm we use to get up for work etc! Despite all we know about troubles form your internal conflicts Thank you for telling us in all those channels about the World as You know it!

They didn't have seal yet when you joined but during the time you were serving. The Navy formed the seals thanks to you mostly the foaming seal team 6! I can't wait till I can meet with you so I can thank you in person for all of your audiobooks have done foe me! Till then RIP Richard Marcinko

I look up to small bussiness people who go out everyday day and work to feed their family.not a killer of the govt. think about it folks. These killers are taking the easiest route in thei life. Serial murders.

He and a team of SEALS came to my city where I was on the SWAT team. They gave us a couple days of training and taught us a few things. At that time (1995) I had no idea who he was but apparently, he had recently published a book that some of my SWAT teammates were aware of. Good times and great memories.
