I've been getting requests to do an ecosphere like this for awhile now. Like I said in the video it really needs to grow in, but let me know what you think about it in its current state. Enjoy!
You are amazing, do you think that you could make a tutorial for a terrarium with a small, shallow saltwater pond suitable for hermit crabs(15/20 gal) Like so it filters to the top so he will see this!
@@SerpaDesign From my (amateur) understanding of hermit crabs in captivity, I'd much rather see you focus on animals that are sustainably bred rather than wild-caught, and that can actually live full happy lives in captivity. I feel like we shouldn't really encourage the keeping of them as pets when there are other options that are better suited. Love your videos, long-time fan
I've tried a salt water ecosphere once and it looked amazing for a week.... then everything died! I still have it sealed about 8 months on and algae has started to grow, hopefully something happens either way it was a great experiment to do with my 6 yr old.
This has to be one of the most deceptively simple, yet stunningly beautiful ecosphere's I've seen to date. Thank you so much for sharing your fabulous work with us.
That’s what I was wondering, but I think he’s perfected his substrate AND cleaned his plants from any foreign attachments because they’re from his own clean tanks - not a dirty pet store.
5:15 **FYI, you can fill the "air pocket" at the top by using a piece of tubing.** Insert one end into the air pocket and the other end connected to "room air'. The pressure of the water outside the jar will force the air out of the pocket. One thing to note, the level of the water outside the jar must be the same or higher than the level inside the jar.
Ever since I found this channel I've used every single container in my house and within in a mile radius of my house just to make terrariums and ecospheres- and I love it.
I remember when the springtails video released, that was the day I found your channel. Keep up the great work! Heres to so many good vids and many more in the future!!!!!!!!!
Tanner, I love it that you make setups that would make someone seeing them in person say, "How in the heck did he do that?" Thanks for showing us your skills! 😃🌿💦👍
This turned out absolutely and amazingly beautiful; you're so creative--a true artist. I was shopping for my first aquatic plant, and a nice customer helped me choose the best one. It turns out that we are both avid fans of your channel! Peace, Be.
You’re my favorite RU-vidr! I’m so excited every time one of your videos come out. Also, you’re the reasons I have multiple terrariums and isopod cultures! Keep up the good work and serpa squad up!
Gave this a go as a first timer. Took two attempts as I tried to cheat with cheaper materials, but second time around it turned out really well. Easier to work your way from front to back, so plant at the base of the jar first, add whatever ornaments and then plant the sides and front. Much, much easier way of working
See this was my question too... what happens when the plants run out of oxygen? And there isn't any air to allow gas exchange... it is absolutely stunning though!!
@@SerpaDesign It's literally packed, mostly because of my turtle aquarium in my room. I made aterrarium with a big glass jar and it was taking too much space, so I kept it in the living room and my mom was annoyed😂
That's an interesting "ecosphere " you have designed ! I like how you managed to find a way to maintain it also . I'm not going to make one any time soon but it is a good idea none the less .
You have loads of imagination! Another set up I would love to try perhaps a variant: local seashore algae perhaps. A nano cold marine 'aqua-terrarium.' Keeping it cold enough might be an issue.
Well the fact that I am an aquarius is cool but I love aquarium and the ones you do are so tight I am an aquarium I live in aquariums there a whole nother world
Beautiful! But what's providing the bioload? I don't see any shrimps or snails. Plus, isn't the point of a sealed ecosphere that you don't provide any maintenance? That's any it's sealed... otherwise it's just an ordinary ecosphere. 😛
Plants produce CO2 all the time as a metabolic product of respiration, but when light is available, they can use and fix some of this CO2 as a substrate in photosynthesis.
@@valdemarjrgensen8072 While they'll give off some from respiration when lights are off, they obviously cannot put out more than they use during photosynthesis. So the plants aren't really going to e able to do much of anything at all
@@reichrunner1 they respirate 24/7, not only when the lights are off. But that'll just cycle the carbon around. When they have used the CO2 already in the water they'll stop growing, and that'll happen fast.
You could use water fully saturated with CO2 and then for every maintenance session make sure the water you open the jar up in is fully charged with CO2 as well. Might work. No Lights for sure! just room light with nothing direct. It's beautiful. I hope it works. I would think of it as a labor of love... I mean, you have to fill up a 10-gallon aquarium to do maintenance
Very nice! Only criticism I have is I would've mounted the mason jar in the opposite direction. So the opening was angled upwards. That would make filling it easier, and prevent your substrate from sliding out when you need to do maintenance, which happens a bit at the end of the video.
Loved this video!! My favorite part was when you removed the ecosphere from the tank of water! Please next video give us more time to read the titles of and examine the different characteristics of the plants! Your design skills are magnificent!
This is so beautiful 😍 I wish I had the creativity to make something like this! All my aquascapes look kinda bland! ( You could also add a snail perhaps to keep the glass alge free!?)
Definitely a topic I'm going to have to discuss in depth. Scaping is a universal art form. If you can scape a terrarium, you can scape an aquarium and so on. The only gap is in understanding the materials.
Love the weekly weekend posts!! I like how your branching out into bigger jobs like making terraruims for others like last video but you still come back to the 1 on 1 videos like how you began
Just make sure the glue you use is cyanoacrylate, it's used all the time in aquascaping and won't harm plants or fish. It also dries really fast in water.
these videos are so therapeutic! I appreciate the effort you put into the videos! (p.s. I would love if you can do an ecosphere with multiple and slightly more complex organisms!)
It depends on what types of plants you use, some aquatic plants can be grown partially submerged stine can grow either in or out of the water. The buce for example do not have to be submerged
I remember when my son was little I'd take him to a small family pet store to enjoy their dark aquarium room, like a little field trip. You should open up your display sometimes for others to enjoy 👍👀🦎🐠🐚🌱
It’ll only work if the community is at climax. There must be slow grow plants or short life cycle plants like moss and a lot of bacteria to start with. Luckily it’ll archieve climax and be completely self-sustainable! :)
