Watching you 2 is so sweet. You try to look at the camera, but it's like you can't help but look at each other every couple seconds. Every time you look at each other, you smile or laugh. There is so much joy in the connection between you two. Such a wonderful example of love for your children to grow up seeing. Thanks for letting us be a part of that each week.

Well I’ve been running my swamp cooler until about midnight. I have two speeds and it’s on high most of the day. But the swamp cooler can do the trick. You have to have one window open though. For example, in my 2 bedroom home I keep my smaller bathroom window open just to pull the air through the back of the house. It’s best to get ahead of the heat. Makes it so much easier in the unit. I turn it on about 10 am. 6000 ft NM desert.

Wow, that's a lot of moths! That is a lot of laundry! When you put your AC on in the afternoon it might take a while before it drops the humidity in the Airstream from running the swamp cooler earlier. The chicks are so cute. They look very happy. It looks beautiful with the boiled linseed oil on the wood ceiling. I'm very impressed with how quickly you painted that all on! And doing that in the heat! Too bad the chickens didn't eat those moths. The office is looking good!

The ceiling is looking fantastic. I’m so glad you decided to go with the linseed rather than a stain, it brings out the beauty in the wood. Try the wet hessian “curtain” idea - it really does work. When I was a kid, in Girl Guides (what you call Girl Scouts), we used to have hessian water bags that we hung in trees when we were camping in the Australian bush. They kept the water lovely and cool... that may be a good idea for cool drinking water rather than using up fridge space.

I saw this stand in Mexico where the designer bent (metal) pipe and stretched (colorful) cloth across it in a way it could be adjusted to block the sun at any angle. That one had two half circles that were welded to two parallel bars - across the bottom - to hold up the two sides. I bet you guys could figure out a way to do the same thing. It blocked the sun early in the morning, mid day and late in the afternoon. It also, where I saw it, also blocked a bad view too. ..).....). Or. ..)^^^^^) or )_____). Or ...... And you can move the whole sun blocker-shade maker to wherever you are gathering or spending time.

@@TinyShinyHome Roserito, South of San Diego, but they were custom maid. I was told they used a pipe (to make it heavy enough it would not fall or blow over, “bender” and had the 1/2 circles welded to the base. It was over 10 years ago also. If it’s worth your while, I suggest renting a pipe bender and using screw on connectors (like w/ PVC), canvas or sheets, and string (to tighten and loosen material as you move it up and down. You could possibly use hot sand (which makes it so you can curve/bend pvc) and then leaving the sand in to make it heavy. That would require lots of trial and error. 😂 it would be great if you experimented because then I would not have to. 😂 The one I saw in Mexico had very bright red, and another blue canvas. Very pretty.

I was wondering, have you tried running the AC at night to get to the coldest, possible air since you have the gen on anyway. Then do the swap cooler once the sun rises. My brother in west texas, use the AC at night to lower the house temp to its coldest (50 degrees) and then shuts the AC off in the morning. He gets free power from 8pm to 6am. The house keeps cool most of the day and gets to about 80 by free power time. Love the channel. If you built a carport style cover for your trailer, put additional solar panels on that roof, with long connectors to hook into your airstream inverters, would that work. This would also give you a water capture area too.
@TinyShinyHome
@TinyShinyHome 3 года назад
That’s a great idea about running the ax at night. We may have to try it. It’s really comfortable with the swamp cooler and gets pretty cool, but I like the idea of making it extra cool to see if it helps throughout the morning. Thanks! And we do have big plans for building a sweet structure over the Airstream but not until after the solar shed is done and the bathroom;)

Those moths are attracted to your denim insulation. That could be problematic since they will eat through it and multiply as they do. That's why moth balls were invented, to keep them away. I don't endorse using them, they are made of naphthalene or PDCB(not even gonna attempt spelling that word). It works, but smells really strong. Maybe there are other ways to get rid of them. Usually our cats love to catch and kill the moths at my house. Definitely want to get rid of those pesky moths completely. A wet/dry vac is a great tool for moth containment.

Surprisingly they didn’t eat them! They had just had their breakfast though.

Will prowse has temporary ground mount system using San Tan solar panels. You could run your ac all day with the panels you bought from them! Check out his youtube channel.

Are you guys due for the monsoon season, will that harm your building?
@TinyShinyHome
@TinyShinyHome 3 года назад
Last year we didn’t get much rain. Hoping it comes this year. Should be July-Sept but who knows. It won’t do much to the building, nothing that can’t be fixed. But we are trying to beat the rain:)

Gloves... chemicals in paint and stain...detergents soak through skin and causes arthritis(I did laundry by hand for one summer and saw my joints in my hands changing 40 yrs ago. I quit it and use gloves for dishes too, I’m 68 yrs old and my hands stayed the same since then.)

The ceiling looks great! "Atta boys" all around for that one! Two maybe "helpful" hints... 1 - When we were building the house Tina washed our clothes by hand. It worked best once she got 2 #3 wash tubs and a toilet plunger (not used obviously). Just use the plunger to swish them up and down in the wash water, then the rinse water. She was able to motor through them pretty quick once she figured out that trick. 2 - The chicks probably do not need a heat lamp any more. Yours are about a week younger than ours. We stopped the heat lamp last weekend and everybody is fine without it. Lastly, feel free to stop by with the kids if you just need to cool off in the afternoons. We've got ice cream, soda pop and A/C so the afternoons are tolerable (at least when we come inside to cool off from drilling fence post holes for the chicken yard).

Thanks Mike! And thanks for letting us use your tool! That straight edge has come in handy. Got to get one. We have to make the beam this weekend and we’ll get it right back to you! I think we’re going to leave the heat lamp off and see how the chicks do tonight.

@@TinyShinyHome No rush on the straight edge. Keep it as long as you need it. It is going to be a while before I have time to get back to wood stuff and when I do, I have a couple of hand tool projects in mind.
