Seamless portals in Garrys Mod 

I think it'd be nice if for the final release there was a toggleable border for the portals so people who want to make non-euclidean houses in gmod can do so. Additionally, maybe being able to toggle the physgunning through a portal, especially when support for putting props through portals is added.

4:35 i've been playing a lot of portal recently, and what i noticed is that it will actually pull you towards the center of a portal you are falling into, so dont feel bad for going off to the side, LOL

This is insane, you're a prodigy man. If two linked portals could be different sizes, could this be linked with player resizer to change your size accordingly as you walked through? Imagine "Something is wrong with my gm_bigcity..." but you can swap between matching the small city and the real one through portals.

Looks nice, classic renderview fun! Have you checked out the TARDIS Rewrite addon? Has nice portals with nice transitions and can shoot through them too. It has source code on GitHub and might have a fix for the black gravity gun bug

Finally someone has made an addon like this. the closest addon we had to this was the safe space addon.

That is beautiful, Someone might be able to modify it to make map transitions in multiplayer, In a way similar to Sven Co-op with how almost every player is required to enter and then a count down would start that would automatically change the map after it hits zero.

The little amounts of small giggles from Mee playing with the portals is fantastic. Keep up the good work!

yo this guy could actually make a TRUE portal gun addon.

This is better than most portal gun addons I've seen and I haven't even reached the one minute mark

Idea for wall-collision problem: (I am not a Source engine modder or Garry's Mod modder, but) When player is overlapping the portal, it would need to ignore world collision, in that sense that it would fall endlessly. BUT, activate a collison around the portal like a rectangular frame, that way the player actually don't fall through the world. So basically, let the portal support the player instead of world. Now, there can be a bug if world ground is too close to a portal in a ceiling, overlapping the player and making it fall out the world. Just don't allow spawning portal where world ground is too close beneath it, if the portal's surface-normal is facing downwards.

The stargate CAP addon has some pretty good prop clipping when you put a object in a stargate but the portals arnt see through and they are 1 way.

wtf ive been wanting to see this flawlessly since i was 12 its a ton to ask but if you made it work real well in multiplayer id love to revive some maps i made that messed with older portal addons that didnt work out well. hell itd just be fun for sandbox. love seeing this

Not sure if this is applicable to your bug, but you might want to check out wiki.facepunch.com/gmod/halo.RenderedEntity It's been a while since I touched GMod and Lua, but assuming you're using render-targets and stencils for your seamless portals, not drawing any of your stuff while the physgun halo is being drawn might help solve that issue.

Great work! I was taking a similar venture myself but stopped when I saw someone else basically already did it. Suppose I'm working on Portal 2 goo now! Realtime marching cubes in Gmod? As long as 5FPS is realtime I suppose. Anywho, I noticed that sounds dont work quite right through portals, not much you can do regarding the PAS (I believe there is a hook to manipulate it, unsure to what extent) but there is absolutely a hook related to entity sounds. Maybe look into it? Would love to PR if it was open source. Thanks for reading.

if you have the ability to, you should ask the voxyllabus guy on how to make it so that you can put the portals on walls. in their mod you can make caves into any wall on a map and walk through the wall, so yeah i guess if you can get onto them thatd be a start

A few other things - You said you wanted to know if someone has already done this, there is a portal gun mod where it’s very similar to the one from portal 1, but not quite perfect. Also, I remember hearing that valve was able to do this because they tricked the game into thinking you were walking into a hole in the wall. It looks like that’s what you’re doing, and if it is, does that mean that someone standing halfway through a portal can be shot or interacted with from the back side?

This might bring me back to making maps for Garrys Mod. I'd stack a shit load of outside environments on top of each other and use this to seamlessly transition between each "level" thus being another technique for extremely large maps. I hope the portal dimensions can be super large because id rather not do the "classic" tunnel transition between areas but have the transition extend the full length of the map.
