I am shocked to hear about Akira Toriyama’s passing. DragonBall changed my life and millions of people. Thank you Master. Rest in Peace.

If only TFS would encourage people to support the official release.

I feel like this should be titled "Sean Schemmel is contractually obligated to not like Team Four Star."

Sean had actually supported DBZA prior to this referencing their jokes and saying he enjoyed them. He only backtracked after finding out Toei didn’t like DBZA and kept taking it down. Which fair play to him I wouldn’t want to lose my job over something like that either

He doesn't give a damn, he's seen the parodies and laughted like we all did but he's a business man and has to act in a certain way.

I met Sean in person at an event in Toronto. I thought it was strange that his line up was exceedingly shorter than Christopher Sabbat’s. After listening to him give these two fans in front of me a pep talk on why to not do steroids it was my turn to meet him. It turns out he’s an extremely normal person.. which is perfectly fine, I shouldn’t have put him so high up in my expectations. We had a boring conversation about nothing and that was that. I grabbed a picture and went on my way disappointed. And then I met Christopher Sabbat after sitting in his huge line up. Oh my god was he the coolest person ever. He stole my phone from me and recorded a video of himself forcing me to scream as if I was transforming into a super Sayian, and then he joined in with me. Chris then asked about the woman with me being my wife and I replied that she was indeed. He then said in his Vegeta voice “as the prince of all sayians I now bless your marriage”. We talked even more about a couple different things and I left with my faith renewed. Incredible experience.

This man says TFS mocks Goku but actively voices Goku in Super

After TFS episode 60: The fans stop supporting the official release.

I LOVED DBZ as a kid. I LIKED DBZ as an adult. TFS rekindled the LOVE I had for the series.

Pros: - Admits Teamfourstar is talentated despite disagreements. - Legal contract to being Goku is also his personal loyalty because he loves the character as he is, which has some honor. - Asks fans to refrain rather than being disrespectful like telling them to "seriously just shut up about this" or "I'm annoyed of people asking me because I don't care." - Goes into detail so he gives legitimate reasoning and avoids assumptions. Cons (no pun intended): - Doesn't acknowledge (or perhaps know about in his defense) the opening of each episode giving credibility to every production studio and Akira Toriyama as well as Teamfourstar stating they're fans parodying the franchise. - Doesn't acknowledge longtime friend and co-worker Christopher Sabat (Vegeta/Piccolo) supports the franchise. - Doesn't acknowledge Kyle Hubert (Gohan) works with them. Although in his defense he may not know this. - Funimation was impressed by voice actors from Teamfourstar and hired them for dub characters, a major contradiction to his word on legal reasons when it comes to certain production studios. Conclusion: Sean Schemmel answered fairly and clearly has a desire to be faithful to the character's accuracy and legal circumstances, but lacks perspective in regards to Teamfourstar and how much they love Dragonball being a parody that's entertaining but overall respectful to the franchise.

Too bad. DBZA is like a love letter to the series

You would have never thought the guy who voices a character as loving easy going and carefree as goku would turn out to be the exact opposite as goku.

I don't understand why Toei doesn't just give TFS the right to use their animation. TFS can create content without the fear of having it removed from platforms, and Toei, I'm sure, can receive a percentage of whatever TFS profits. I don't know. I'm no business man or anything, but I feel like this would make things easier for everybody.

The whole English DBZ fandom revived because of TFS. At the start of every effing episode they state that DBZA is a fan-based parody, and encourages us to support the official release. Sean should be thankful for TFS doing what they did with the series and gave us quite honestly a better quality product than the OG.

I full on believe Toriyama likes DBZA, he even used their "Piccolo is bad at naming things" joke to name Piccolo's new form.

Most of the reason he feels this way is because how he feels about Goku. Sean is very protective of Goku from what I've heard and read. I guess it might also be his job to say he doesn't like TFS.

Funny thing is Chris actually lent his voice for the Bardock special and he didn’t lose his job. I feel like Sean was just hating on TFS because of how big they were getting.

TFS DBZA is a lot funnier. Every episode they state support the official release, and nobody in their right mind would think TFS made DBZ

Hearing Goku’s voice in such a serious way is comically next level.

It must get asked all the time. When somebody asked him about it at a convention I was at he was like "eeh, I don't travel around to talk about their show" and shrugged it off. I can respect his position. He's got a job to do

Why are people surprised he changed his mind. He litterly represents the dubbing cast of english dragon ball as gokus voice actor. He can't control what the conpany wants. He has to go with their requests so that he doesn't lose his job

He really should have said "I can't say much about it. I think they're really talented and funny, but I also need to respect the studio's decisions. I don't know enough about copyright or IP to give a meaningful opinion. So it's pretty complicated, hope you understand."

DB Community let's all pay our respects to Brice Armstrong, the Dragon Ball Narrator, the VA for Captain Ginyu, and Lord Slug, today it was announced he passed away back in January 10th. I'm happy to know that Toriyama based the Ginyu Force off of Super Sentai (the Japanese source of Power Rangers) "The purpose of striking a pose is not to become like wallpaper--that's why we chant loudly when we pose: to draw attention to our magnificence. I get that as the guy who voices the main character he has to toe the company line. He probably was told don’t show support and say this or we’ll find another Goku.

If Toei doesn't like TFS tho, why'd they make a massive easteregg with Popos face zooming in to only his eyes like in TFS and he threatens to ban Vegeta if he broke the hyperbolic time chamber again. And this isn't the only reference.

The source material is 30 years old, corporate goons never seem to understand how well made fan fiction can reinvigorate the consumption of an old product.

i can get that. idk if i’d agree completely but abridged is awesome and helped me through some dark times when i was down. so did the original dbz animation as well it’s just tfs content takes wild turns that i love. i don’t wanna say i’d rather have the abridged version forreal(even tho i wouldn’t mind) i wish these actors had the opportunity to do what tfs does to an extent. couldn’t imagine sean schemmel telling frieza he looks weird. or vegeta calling 18 a washing machine.

It’s actually very legal. As a parody, it falls under fair use guidelines. Not to mention they start every episode by giving credit and telling people to support the official release

It should be noted that multiple members of TFS have done official voice work for the franchise now.

Are we surprised that a man so insecure about his role that he actively forced a convention to have Peter Kelamis taken off their guest line up because "I'M the voice of Goku" doesn't like another dub? Next up on "no shit sherlock", the sky is blue, it's raining in Scotland and water is wet.

As someone who knows fully well how easily a corporate office can excommunicate even a superstar for breaking policy Sean is being incredibly smart here. Not sure if Chris Sabat somehow gets special treatment with his favoritism/involvement towards TFS given that Toei has issued multiple warning's over the years.

Team Four Star just filled a void dbz left behind, and the entire product is a million times better because of it.

This is the same man that threw a temper tantrum when another actor who voiced goku in a different dub was at the same convention.

He is definitely getting paid to say this he sounds like he's panicked whenever he strays off in thought

My only issue is this. Why would Toei and Funimation have an issue with them when the cast of Dragonball Z abridged has been brought on to countless official projects including ressurection F, Dragonball Z kai, Dragonball Xenoverse etc... to do english voice work? Something doesn't add up as their opinions seem to change with time.

"Please support the official release." -parodying is legal. -no one thinks that they made the animation. -sometimes they actually fix animation errors, plot holes and so on. -they're all die hard fan boys. -the money mainly comes from patreon which is literally just other fan boys paying them to make more. - and every single episode, movie or special tells the viewer to go out and watch the original show. Only a guy like him can find any problem with TFS.

Sean basically spelled out that he can't officially support TFS because the company he works for doesn't like them, cut the man some slack

It actually kind of blows my mind that Goku seems to be the bad guy in this situation, but Christopher Sabat/Vegeta is like "hell yeah I love those guys" and has even worked with them and gotten them work

I saw Sean and Chrs Sabbat at a convention in Sydney once and somebody asked Chris at his panel whether he liked DBZ Abridged and he said that he does. However, he warned us to spread the word around not to ask Sean that question, because he feels quite strongly about it. Now I can see what he meant.

He knew how successful the abridged series was getting to the point where abridged was better than the original which he voiced for. I’m not saying abridged is better but it is so damn iconic that sometimes I forget I’m watching regular dbz and I’m just waiting for the TFS jokes to come out.

If anything, TFS makes people rewatch the old original dragonball stuff, or it even attracts new people to the dragonball franchise in general via RU-vid... So in my opinion it is a good thing

A DBZA episode got suggested to me after this video ended.

Somebody had the guts to ask him about Team Four Star again 2 weeks ago at Rose City Comic Con here in Portland Oregon, but he handled it a lot better this time. I cringed when I heard them ask but he Sean responded with a simple "Honestly I don't really have much to say on that, sorry." I watched his Holden Hardman meeting and I was very turned off not wanting to meet him or anything, but after he spoke at that panel at RCCC and how nice he was proving to be, he won me over. Decided to go for a picture and autograph after that and he was super nice and even complimented my watch. He may have his moments and opinions, but he seems like a pretty decent guy. My meeting with him was awesome.
