Seann Trews dance display by young Highland Dancers during Pitlochry Highland Nights July 2022 

Some of the youngest members of the Jean Swanston Highland Dancers giving a display of the Seann Triubhas or Sean Trews Scottish Dance. This was one of their displays during the Pitlochry Highland Nights event in Pitlochry, Scotland on Monday 11th July 2022.
A Highland Night is an evening of traditional entertainment, full of Scottish Music and Dance. These outdoor productions have been performed weekly during the summer months since 1965. The compere is the well known local entertainer Alan Brown, and the piper here is Bruce Hinch.
Seann Triubhas is a dance of celebration developed in response to the repealing by the English of the Act of Proscription in 1747, which restored to the Scots the right to wear kilts and play the bagpipes once more. The first slow part of the dance mocks the restrictions imposed by the trousers, while the movement of the second part shows the legs shaking off the trousers and returning to the freedom of the kilt. The dance then progresses from slow time to quick time as the final celebration of the rediscovered freedom.
