Can you imagine how great this girl felt when she realized how much personnel and resources just for her, along with her family and community! I don't see her leaving Alska anytime soon! I am a former Fire Chief and Paramedic and have worked along side USCG, SAR, US and Alska wildlife officials teams and the National Park Service! Sadly 2 of the searches did not end well like a small plane crash and someone who fell into a rapid waterfalls in the middle of the park. The plane crash incident had resources cost between all agencies was around 2 Million before we found the deceased and the crashedvaircraftit and with over 300 personnel over the time once notified and 5.4 Million with over 500 personnel to search for the foreign citizen visiting the Alska wilderness! It was so very sad to tell the family we couldn't find the individual alive and well with all victims! When we did have a good rescue it was most rewarding feeling! Even just one life is priceless!

@@Brucev7 Not really lost lost. When we were kids, my friend and I would take off to the woods for the weekend just for fun to test ourselves. We cheated in the winter and took snowshoes, sleeping bags and prepared food. In the summer months though we relied on fish we could catch. Well, that and chips and Pepsi! LOL We wanted to prove to our Dads that we were just as able in the bush as the boys were so they'd take us on their fly-out fishing weekends sometimes. I do know what it takes to live in the wilderness for a few days. Kidlet was not so outdoorsy but I made her and her Brownie troop learn the basics. Some of the Moms were concerned that Kidlet reported one Monday that her Mom let her play with matches. That was so she could learn how to build a fire LOL

The ground crew that searched for that missing girl should've gotten the credit for finding her..all the credit went to the air and rescue team from the Coast Guards when they didn't even find her..all they did was pick her up once she was found. I'm not saying they did nothing cuz the job they do is amazing and they helped look for her but at least give some credit to the people who actually found her which never happened. Not only in Alaska, but any rural area, If you go into the woods, bring a couple orange smoke candles and a orange hand flare. Depending on the area, bring a revolver also. If you're old enough to go out you're old enough to use all three.

@@jennifermarshall4780 Thanks, Jennifer, for your reply. She was a fortunate girl. It does not take long for hypothermia to set in, causing reduced ability to care for yourself as well as poor decision making ability. I live alone, so I bring all three even when I'm just in in the back field. If , for example, the tractor rolls over, I could be in deep trouble really quickly.

Hint from a CNA... When someone is in the water & needs to get in the boat... @18:09 in video Slide YOUR WHOLE RIGHT ARM UP TO THIER SHOULDER... LIFT YOUR ARM UP & LOCK THEIR SHOULDER BETWEEN YOURS... SO YOU'RE LOCKING SHOULDERS... Than turn to your LEFT to drag them onto your back a bit, and it's EASY PEASY to drag em right out over your shoulder, because you're using your whole body & back muscles INSTEAD of just your wiped out arm muscles. You can literally roll right over and take them with you, into the boat. Try it. I think you'll be surprised how much easier it is to lift someone out of the water. And remember, use your back, shoulder, body, and leg muscles whenever you can leverage them. It's not only safer lifting, it's SO MUCH easier! And ladies & kids, you'll be amazed at how much more weight you can lift EASILY without killing yourself doing it. Especially if you're trying to lift a grown man into a boat or any other place. Always use your body & legs. This is how we lift people up out of wheelchairs. By locking shoulders & just standing up. No lifting pain or strain. Just lock shoulders & stand up using your whole body muscles instead of just your arms. Same process can be used here, but with a lock shoulders, roll & pull motion. Leverage is everything, when you're trying to lift or move!

It surprises me that not every rescue flight that goes out, there isn't a Corpsman on board to push drugs and start IVs. I like that on the rescue flights. I love this series. The men and women are so well trained. The Coast Guard is definitely risking Their lives to rescue many. The rescue swimmer, flight Mechanic, 2 pilots are Heros!!

All rescue swimmers are certified EMS they can also start IVs..

@@jthrasher47 but there's different levels of EMS you have Basic Life Support and Advance Life support. Most BLS can't push higher level drugs.

@@BeezerMN no but every single one of them can push IVs, that's one of the very first things you learn as a medic in every single branch..

@@jthrasher47 correct. I was referring to the pushing higher level drugs portion of the message. Trust me I know. I was a 91 Bravo in the Army. Combat medic. Did my AIT in Ft Sam. :-)

@@BeezerMN well great awesome they are much needed and I always respected them. All that pressure especially in a combat zone.. 11b here. and yes you're right only some are trained enough to push the higher drugs but not your common medic.. I could be wrong but I believe PJs are.. most PJ's I dealt with were only on medevac

Can't handle a needle, so they drill into the bone instead? That sounds much, much worse.

LoL. That was my first thought. Haha. I was kinda surprised they jumped to that so quick. It ia MUCH hard to be pulled out but I am guessing the main reason was because he blew veins by pulling out the peripheral lines they placed and they needed to have access. A line into the bone like this is also probably very welcome once they get to hospital as it allows for larger volume and speeds of infusion. During my 2nd sepsis they could get a line in for the life of me (literally lol). Obvs my port was pulled and they couldn't place a direct central line because of the infection. But being on 100% iv nutrition plus the obnoxious meds we needed solid lines. Getting jugular catheters on each side kinda makes me wonder if I'd rather they had gone into the bone.

i'M WONDERING WHY THEY DIDN'T SEDATE HIM AND THEN DO AN IV. (oops-caps lock). If they told me I was going to have my bone drilled, I'd have stood on my head to avoid that!
@Tgolden069
@Tgolden069 3 года назад
@@nancygalloway9720 You typically need IV access to sedate someone. So that isn't an option. It is a standard practice in a lot of instances to use the IO (bone) access. I think they did a good Jobe in this case.

@@Tgolden069 Thanks for the reply--I was actually thinking of an injection (a shot), but I'm no expert, and I'm sure they did the best they could. :)

Darlin' next time you go hiking take survival gear (tent, jacket, beanie, gloves, blanket, water, food, matches,) even though you might just be going for a short walk...and never go alone!!!! Dad what were you thinking letting her go alone, esecially when you were newcomers???? Thank goodness for the community minded people and the coast guard. Maybe 3 years on you are thinking of joining the coast guard yourself young lady!!! Have a great life..love from Western Australia ❤🦘🦘🦘🦘
