When I was a little girl during World War II, l had an uncle who was in the Coast Guard. Knowing nothing about the Coast Guard I thought he must be a coward because he didn't join the Army and fight for his country like my father had done. When I grew up and discovered exactly what the Coast Guard is and does, if my uncle was alive today, I would hug him and love him and fall on my knees begging forgiveness for my childish attitude! God bless the Coast Guard and please watch over all the brave men and women who are members. AMEN

"I don't like to call for help." The very misguided attitude that has killed many people afflicted with an over-inflated sense of pride. This guy was different and he did the one thing that saved his life ... he called for help when it was needed ... and available. Respect.

"I don't like to call for help" has nothing to do with pride - but rather not wanting to bother people. He was still embarrassed. Plan to self rescue or call for help if u will surely die. He will continue to try not to call for help. Peace
@joeglennaz
@joeglennaz Год назад
The problem with not wanting to bother people attitude is it you end up bothering A lot more people a lot more if you get in a position where they have to carry you out or if you die then you’ve got 200 people doing a search and rescue you get numerous aircraft you got people risking their life and potentially bad weather you got your family and friends to think about if you don’t make it it’s a big bother if you don’t call for helping you really need it. People have got to get over this mindset..
@AntonGudenus
@AntonGudenus 4 месяца назад
@@joeglennaz The optimum is somewhere in between not wanting to call help, and not counting too much on help being available. Mountain search and rescue here in Europe has a huge problem with people adopting the mindset of "I'll try it and if I get in a bad situation, I'll simply call the helicopter, so they can pic me off the mountain", which leads to loads of rescues. And these rescues often happen in very bad conditions, because people ignored the signs. It's not uncommon at all over here, for rescue helicopters to have to pick woefully unprepared "wannabe mountaineers" off of mountains. It's gotten so bad, that many rescue crews are openly begging people, to not see helicopter rescue "as a taxi service". I think the hunter in this situation did exactly right and displayed the right mindset. He called help at the right time, but was extremely embrassed to have to call for help in the first place. Thats exactly the kind of mindset you want everyone to have. People, who act like that, can be taught through public awareness programms, what to avoid/do and when exactly you should call for help.

If I was in trouble and needed to call the Coast Guard, I wouldn't care if the rescue swimmer that came to save me was a male or female, had 2 heads, 4 feet and tentacles for arms. The only thing I would care about is if they were well trained and qualified to do the job required of them. I also think that the men and women of the Coast Guard doesn't even get half of the recognition and respect that they should get.

These guys are great, you are all very lucky to have such dedicated people looking out for you. Im a little jealous. TJ if you ever read this, tough guys call for help before its life and death, you got tough knowing which battles you could possibly win and making it happen. The guys that think they are tough leave it too late and then their family is burying them. Kudos to you for knowing the right time to call and having the gear to do it. Calling for help is hard, it takes a tough guy or gal to put pride aside and know when they are likely to get their arses kicked by mother nature.

Damn guys... I just recently started prep work for the life guard permit here in the EU and that's the first time I swam with clothes on. It is hell, really. Everyone watching this, I'm not lying when I say that with clothes you are draining your stamina at a factor of five if not even higher. You just get exhausted so damn quick, especially when swimming the crawl, because that works by using the energy, that is already there and carrying it along. That just doesn't work if you get dragged backwards by all the cloth on you, so really just hats up to those guys and gals, really impressive stuff!

All need some means to place a distress signal. Most responders are not pressing for talk. The victim must conserve his oxygen intake and strength. The open line of your device to the responder is probably enough for them to follow your signal. They do converse with you whether they believe you are comprehending or not. Their only thought is to get you out with minimum of damage and to keep you alive. Even if you protest with their techniques, they will continue saving. They may apologize and ask for your advice up one wall and down the other, however, they will continue to agree with you and continue saving you. That is what they are trained to do. They are not concerned with fixing their hair and making this look good.

This is how it should be for all physical jobs. When I went through the police academy there was different state physical fitness standards for men and women and it hasn't changed. For instance... men had to run the mile and half in like 10 mins, 30 secs to pass and the females in the same age bracket (20-29) got 13 mins, 15 secs. I mean I could walk that briskly. Same went for the 300m sprint, push ups, situps, and bench press (For bench press it was a different percentage of your overall body weight- Men had to lift like 120% of their body weight and women had to lift I think it was 70%. I'm pretty sure that is the same with all states currently if you look up your own states physical fitness requirements to become a police officer in the state you reside in. I have no problem working with women cops at all. There are some tough ass women I work with, but criminals aren't like well you're a woman, so I am just going to run slower to get away from you in a foot pursuit or fight you from going to prison for a warrant that will lock me up for years at a much more gender equal physical altercation force. There should be one standard for physical fitness tests for both genders. Period. The laws says in my state, and I assume most others, an officer can use lethal force if they believe themselves to be in 'fear of death or serious bodily injury', so technically a female officer could get away with shooting and killing a person at a much lower legal standard then a male officer could. A male who is 6'2'', 220 lbs. who might want to try tangling with me ( a person who wrestled his entire youth/teen life) is likely just going to get shot and killed by a 5'4'', 120 lbs. female whereas I could probably subdue him or 'blood choke' him unconscious (Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu) until backup arrived and them wake up relatively unharmed. I mean we are in the age of gender equality are we not? A female can do anything a male can do right? Those that say well that's what Taser is for or OC spray or some sort of non-lethal resort you are trained to never use non-lethal force if you are by yourself because a Taser could miss or fail and OC Spray in a fight just gets all over both of you and maybe the criminal isn't even feeling it cause they just smoked a dippy or something (a cigarette dipped in PCP....a common drug in our area). I'm just fighting for gender equality here...women should be with me riiiigghhhhttt??? Like I said if you don't believe me simply look up the passing physical fitness requirements to become a police officer in your state. You will see a male section and an easier female section for passing....black and white right on your state police or municipality's official websites.

As a woman, I totally agree with you. The standards should be the same for both men and women in these professions where someone’s life could be on the line. There’s just no way a woman and a man are equal in strength and endurance. Sorry, but it’s true. Sure there’s some unicorns out there, but most of the time we are given a soft side and less physically demanding jobs for a reason. Also another thing about this whole “gender wage gap thing”. It’s usually the men who work in physically demanding and higher risk jobs, and those are the jobs that pay more than the less demanding jobs that women hold. What the “statistics” did, was they lump everyone together. At this point in life I am done competing with men and showing them that I can do things just as well. I got in touch with my feminine side and find reward and joy in baking sourdough bread for my husband and having a hot and yummy meal ready for him when he comes home from work. Sorry, but I feel very strongly about all of the issues you brought up. Used to think than “we are equal, we can do it just as well as men”. Yea, what a load of brainwashed bs we went through in high school and college 😂. It was a decade long journey to get to this thinking and get to my feminine roots.

You are absolutely wrong about the gender wage gap. There are wage gaps in all careers not just physically demanding careers.

That man TJ is really something. And how about the camera guy!!! How kind of him to give him a ride home to his wife who’s probably worried sick. AND DIDN’T FILM IT. What a true guy.

Oh my goodness, I work at Kodiak Island Hospital just to do billing and admissions. I had started working on a schedule on weekend and had a elder from a remote on Kodiak The young lady all of age 14 presented with real labor I have to say I kind of freaked out at the beginning but I could see that her water is broken and she is definitely weak. It totally scared the crap out of me since I’m only a ministration person but she was so small that I scooped her up and went screaming to the nurses station and said I think she’s having a baby now! Fortunately it turned out for everyone and she was safe the baby was safe the grandfather who had flown to get her year was also relieved. And after that date her grandfather had spoken to me many times and he was very grateful. Aulani was that scared the freaking heck out fine!!

There is no way I could have done this even as a young adult, let alone now. The last thing they'd need is part of the crew flipping out over too much stress.
