In a previous video, I talked about homelessness in China and walked about my neighborhood, but many people said I needed to go to the outskirts of Beijing to find homeless people. So, in this video, I take the metro to the end of the line and walk around looking for homeless people.
What do you think I found on the outskirts of Beijing?

I was walking several imes for hours and hours in Bejing years ago and I found maybe 2, 3 people which could fit in the description and I was told that these are people coming to Bejing to get a job but were struggling to have an appartment ready. I just came from Ottawa downtown. It is a total disaster. One guy with a naked butt was crossing Rideau Street having 10 bucks in his hand. He was definitely in a rough shape. I don't think he can even manage himself. I saw the same picture in Washington DC, a homeless man sleeping in the glass bus stop with no pants amid families with kids. The same one I saw in Denver. I had to go to downtown for my son who participated in the Altheimer fundraising event. Otherwise, I never go there; it is too sad to see such people.

i worked in dongguan , southern china for 20 years, I didn't see any, but i did see a few beggars , whom were disable phsically. China's homeless are different from America or western world. I worked in America for a year in LA and San francisco, the Americans homelss are desperate people, they are dirty , mentally not well and really fed up with life as zero opportunity and no help and they can't help themselves. in china homeless are just people comin g the cities to look for works , they often stay with friends and family for a while, if they are on the subway on crossig junctions, then you see a few young men are clean and they don't rob you , they are just waitng for a job to go to , when they get it, they get a jobs and a place to live , provide by the boss. In Japan , you see more homeless are more visible , in china is a shame to be not self relaince. china government offer shelter but people woudln't go to because of feeling ashamed.

Was back in home city Beijing a month ago (stayed in East suburb of Tongzhou district), nope, I didn't see any homeless people anywhere. Was discussing about the number of homeless people in a RU-vid chat with an American who read (from an American source) that there are 300 million homeless people in China, that is utterly false. The official figure I could find (online) released in the year of 2019 stating there were around one million homeless people in whole of China, which most have received help and aid from governmental or charitable organisations. Thanks for the walk around and the video.
@TripBitten
@TripBitten Месяц назад
Yes, that stat is from a research paper that is using "migrate workers" for the homeless number. The paper actually says 300 million migrate workers are not properly housed and goes on to classify them has homeless, but admits most have homes.... It is a poorly written paper that makes no sense, but Google ran with it and quotes it because that is what Google does....

Chinese President Xi Jinping, who assumed office in 2012, set an ambitious goal of lifting the remaining 100 million people out of poverty (BBC). According to the World Bank, over the past 40 years, the number of people in China with incomes below $1.90 per day - the International Poverty Line as defined by the World Bank to track global extreme poverty- has fallen by close to 800 million. By 2012, the number of people in China living below the international poverty line had fallen to fewer than 90 million, and by 2016, it had fallen to 7.2 million people (0.5% of the population), BBC. By the end of 2020, the final 98.99 million impoverished rural residents in China had all been lifted out of poverty. All 832 impoverished counties and 128,000 villages had been removed from the poverty list.

Based on my own experience in Canada, homeless people are usually concentrated in CBD area where they have easier access to amenities such as water, food,(garbage bin behind restaurants or grocery stores etc) and washrooms. Recently , with the so called safe injection sites established in these areas, there is an acute increases of homeless people attracted there. This is also true of smaller communities where I am,

Here's my answer in another video about the same topic: I'm Chinese I remember there were quite a lot of homeless people when I was little. I remembered a homeless mad woman cursing all day in the street near my home. I didn't know her story, but I don't think it's a happy one. From mid 2000s there were fewer and fewer homeless as what I observed. I think some of them just died but more of them are taken care of by the government and social welfare organizations. I remembered there were a program to find those homeless people home. The police identified them, found their families if they had any, send them back home or to an asylum. If their families have financial problem in taking care of them, they government would pay a little part of their living cost. There was an internet celebrity in 2000s who's called 潇洒哥, who was a homeless in Hangzhou city. He was captured by a street photographer when he was walking on the street with a posture like a super model on T-stage while wearing dirty rags and having a cigarette between his lips. This photo went viral. Hangzhou government find him soon after that. Identified him, found his family, paid for his treatment of his mental disease (the reason causing his homelessness). He was not cool at all in a photo of a following new article, but I guess he ended up well. I don't believe all of them have happy endings, considering we were not as rich as we are now, and our government weren't as efficient as they are now. But after a few years I stopped seeing any homeless anywhere in China.

China issued a "homeless aid" policy back in early 2000 (can't remember which year)。 If a homeless was spotted by local police, they would call the civil administration department。 Homeless could stay at local shelters before being taken back to their hometown. Before the homeless back home, the hometown civil servant also needs to check the living situation and make sure he/she will be taken care. In rural areas, there is also a system to help elders, kids, or the disabled, and make sure those who are capable of working would get job. It's part of traditional culture but reinforced by govt regulations.

This is a more accurate assessment of the poverty of any country. You can hide homeless people as normally claimed by Westerners but you cannot hide slums in any city in China.

here if you put 25 cents in the piggy bank every time you find a homeless person. the jar would fill up in no time. i guess it would take a very long time to fill the piggy bank in china🤣🤣 . that's the major difference. love from canada.

There will always be transitory homeless people in big cities in China who left village homes for jobs.

Some American are finding hard to believe that there are hardly any homeless people in China because they are conditioned to believe that US is exceptional so whatever is in other countries especially a communist country has to worse than what you can find in their country. Watched a video of homeless shanty structures in San Francisco/ Oakland, CA and they are similar to the structures you would find slums like Kibera in Nairobi . It is a question of priorities. Less wealthy cities like Moscow have hardly any homeless people on the streets while cities in America where some of the world's richest people live a stone throw away like San Francisco are infested with poverty and homelessness. One is excuse I hear a lot about homelessness in America is that they are drug addicts and people with mental illness. A housing expert who was interviewed said that is a way to rationalize homelessness as a problem that is unsolvable. He said that the main reason for homelessness is lack of affordable housing and jobs that don't pay enough to rent.

Originally, this was a travel and food channel, but when covid hit, we couldn't really travel so it changed focus. Trip = trip/travel and Bitten = Food, it was a play on being bitten by the travel bug.

I think it will be rare to see homeless people in China. It's not in their culture. Even in the West, you don't see Asians being homeless...mostly it's the non-Asians. It's just not in their culture...it's a shameful thing. They're not lazy type and they take care of their business. It's in their culture to be responsible, respectful and honest. That's why EVEN in America, Asians thrive in workplaces...and that's why they thrive in schools as well...they get their work done and they're more productive compare to non-Asians...I witnessed it because I work there and I see what's going on.

If you look for homeless people, you need think like homeless people. Homeless people like live near by downtown, so they can find or get food. They also like live in underground tunnel, so they can keep warm. You also can not find homeless people in suburb of the US city.

Definitely not true. My parents live suburbs many miles away from the city and some dude camped out just down the road from their house in Richmond, CA. There also many encampments away from the road where you can't see them from the car. But no matter, there's no excuse for this; homelessness is a sign of decay and decline, especially for the "richest" country in the world.

Yes there are poor people in China, but most of them are taking care by their relatives or the state, they have at least a comfortable bed and shelter with meals, thats why they dont sleep on the streets no more. Super rich countries like Japan, Singapore or western Europe do have poor people as well, so why not in China, a developing middle-income country.

If you have to go out of your way to purposely try and find homeless people, then it's not really an issue. In metropolitan Toronto, Canada you don't have to look very far and it's only has a population of 6.4 million people and an area of about 7000 sq km. Majority of the homeless people are concentrated in the downtown area.

Toronto has homeless almost everywhere, and used syringes & condoms laying all over the streets all over too. It's certainly not like it used to be. And the subway is a dangerous dungeon of unchecked crime outside rush hour.

Where got homeless ppl ? Lol. There are migrants workers who might rough out the night before they reach their destinations to work. Some farm workers also sleep in their super big harvester vehicle or sheltered structures on their way to the farm to harvest crops
