Many years ago I stayed in a remote cottage in Scotland. On the window ledge outside the cottage we were told if you put an egg or some other food Pine Martens will come and if you are still and lights out watch them through the window . To my delight we were visited by one or two every night and from the comfort of the sofa , just the other side of the window we watched from inches away while these amazing animals came to feed.
Simon, hello. We have been offline for more than two weeks now, but travelling back south from the Durham/N Yorks Moors area came across your video post. Great work, loved the Pine Marten, and the location should be excellent for potential viewers, with or without instruction. Good luck to you and all who follow. J&A&B&T
Am finding these days Simon, spending more viewing hours watching well produced videos on U-tube like this than the "pap" mainstream T. V. is serving up. Keep up the good work. 👍
Very good video really enjoyed watching it , we have them here in Wicklow , I spent many cold nights during the pandemic in 21 to get a good foto of these fantastic little creatures, they really are beautiful to watch , anyway well done , that was worth the long drive .
Superb footage of the Red Squirrel and Pine Martins - no wonder you were so pleased and the placing of the perches was well worth it. It was great advice about the cut ends of perches. I must admit, I fell foul of that when I first started out doing wildlife photography, it can totally destroy a decent image of your subject. The new hide looks great but that pod looks absolutely awesome.
Beautiful captures Simon. I purchased one of your bean bags a year or two ago and took it to Kenya this June. I loved it, it helped to stabilize my Z9 and 400mm 4.5, got a few compliments. Thanks for Great video and congratulations on getting your pine martens 🎉
@@simoneardley Hi Simon, I love the Z9, I actually have two of them. My husband got one but his lights wouldn’t work so I kept it as my back up. I only wish it was a little lighter to carry. I have always loved my 500pf even before the Z9 so that was my Z9 lens of choice. (Even though I had purchased the 400mm 4.5z lens.) The 500pf had to go to the shop, I was devastated, then I remembered I could get the 400mm 4.5z out of the box and use it in the mean time. Well I absolutely love that lens with the 1.4z TC. That combo lives on the Z9; my 500pf was back from the Nikon shop in about two weeks and haven’t even used it. Awesome lens and a bit lighter than the 500pf. Looking forward to your next video!
Awww love pine martens, they're my favourite land mammal. I saw them at Banavie. Have subscribed! Only just found your channel, so thanks for sharing, safe travels.

Found your vlog a few weeks ago Simon and it's an inspiration. You put the hours in but always look like you're having the time of your life. Great images and love the nod to Eric & Ernie too. Would be interested in finding out where you found the hen harriers on Mull as I was there in April but no luck. Got some great white tailed eagle and otter shots but back next June so fingers crossed. Any advice would be appreciated. Keep up the great videos.
Yes mate! Buzzing for you after all the hours you’ve put in 👍🏻 Not had the chance to photograph them yet but after watching this I don’t think it will be long! Great video pal 😊
Absolutely magical! A pine marten comes visiting our terrace around 8:30 almost every evening here in western Germany. Such a gorgeous animal, so graceful.
Thanks for the wonderful video, Simon! I have just installed a nest box in my garden for pine martens. These critters walk around in our garden over here in overcrowded Netherlands! I hope to do a video about this on my channel. It's great to see your channel growing mate! 😊😊
Well done Simon i know how that feels persistence pays off in the end it took me over 4 years to get day light shots of them going up the highlands and i'm still not happy with my shots i'll still be going back up again to improve on them.👍📸😂
Great stuff Simon, glad you done this as i,m booked in the hide/pod in mid Nov..so this gives me a good insight of what to expect.. Keep up the good work..
Alright Simon , long time since I met you , me and Taff (from the Isle of Man) called in too yours one night (early 90s) while we where in the area seeing Alan Cocker , remember your portraits off Shearer and a few other Blackburn players , your videos are class mate .
Hi Simon, what a fantastic video!! I'm so glad you get to photograph them this time! I'd wish it wasn't so remote otherwise I would book a weekend immediately! Greetings, Gladys
Pine Martens are just the most wonderful creature to film and photograph. We have some in Wales and I have been lucky to video and photogtaph some over the last 5 years or so. Loved your video and thank you. Will hopefully see some in Scotland later in the year 🤞
Top vlog again mate. Pine marten are a fantastic animal. I have a reliable source that tells me one or two have been seen in local woodland to me in North Lincolnshire.....something I really need to do something about. Try Penny Hedge in Perthshire too,run by Mark and Sue Johnson 👍👌
Great videos. I stumbled across a Pine Marten in Meadow Lake Provincial Park a couple weeks ago on a camping trip and got some great photos of him. I didn’t even try video since I didn’t have my tripod with me. Having a hide setup specifically for photographing them would be great. Thanks for the video. Could you do a video on how you do flash photography for wildlife. I am trying to learn how. Thank you for sharing. Evan
Wowsers! That's some priviledged footage, like buses you wait nearly 3 years then 3 come at once. Ha! I notice you're virtually at 15k subs now Si. Maybe a subscriber giveaway, something small but rarer that Martens....say a calendar or something. Stay lucky mate, you're really smashing it out the park of late. Sod the badgers!
Cracking Blog mate, thank you for all your work and patience, wildlife is wildlife it has its moments, and we need hours of patience, so glad you had a great night, and the whole family came out for you. Love the exit down the path....🤣🤣
Stunning 🎉 happy man hopefully I will get to do this hide got new camera to get pine Martin are doing well here n. i hopefully 🤞 i will be on look out for them
Brilliant! Perseverance pays off! I'm in Cornwall hoping to capture some images of Dippers on the stream near our BnB. We don't have them in Milton Keynes, and as you said you need to put the hours and miles in. Well done on some great stills and video
Congratulations. There is no words left to say because you use up the whole dictionary in how you felt lol. I did not know we had animals as cute as that in Britain. Here I am in my MotorHome August 1st 2023. Here I am at Lochetive not far from where you were. Amazing video it’s 12:30 and I am watching this. I will be up at 9am heading back to Preston where I work thinking all about this lol. Thanks for sharing Ray K UK 🇬🇧 YNWA.
@@simoneardley it is but it’s only for work. So I have 5 weeks in work down south for a wedding then straight back to Taynuilt. The different the set there made was amazing. The tree the 2 of them climbed the log on the wall a few titbits it was like a school playground for kids. I swear they where looking straight into the lens all the time and thinking “ I know your in there hiding I can SMELL you you daft bugger. Then the other one says “ ignore him let’s go and play on this tree that grew over night. Yeah he thinks where stupid like that but I bet I can climb up that tree faster than . Lol As I said I am 63 and only seen them on tv I did not know they where in our woods. Thanks for the educating and such wonderful footage Preston’s new Mr Attenborough. Ray.
Nice one Simon. I have been lucky enough to get both Badgers and Pinemartens to my hide in daylight over the last couple of months, it is fantastic to watch them. Lots of Pinemartens all across Northern Ireland where i am now.
