@@alex30425 Seriously, even as a book reader the first intro was next to impossible to follow. Literal "blood lines" was a neat idea but it wasn't executed well. A tapestry is way better, easier to understand and better imagery.
@@alifzahid9762 But it doesn't. If you look at the tapestry now, it tells the story from The Doom of Valyria up until Luke's death (the end of season 1). The showrunner said that the tapestry will change to show updated events, but I don't think it's going to spoil the season. More like a really creative recap =)
First square is the Doom, next is Aegon 1 and his sisters flying to conquer Westeros, next is the destruction of House Gardener, next is the Great Houses Stark, Tully, Arryn bend the knee, next is Maegor the Cruel killed by the throne, next is young Jaehaerys takes the throne, next is old Jaehaerys makes Viserys King, next is the green dress moment at dinner with Viserys and royal family, then Aegon and Rhaenyra on their thrones, and finally Vhagar killing Luke.

I wish they had hired him to work on this with a variation of the Targaryen Theme. There is so much Dany/Dragons material that could have been taken from earlier GoT-seasons. Instead there are just using the old theme again, hanging on old manners. This opening Credits were made for a Targaryen series, but the music is still too much of Thrones.
@@Dom_Karnage I'm like 80% sure the theme from "The Prince That Was Promised" was supposed to be the opening for this show but got scrapped in favor of the more recognizable old one and I'll die mad about it.

@@dylanh7600 are you talking about the one of Maegor the Cruel's sequence? I thought that was Quicksilver, the dragon of Aenys's Targaryen which was passed to Aegon the young prince who fought with Maegor the Cruel but was defeated by Maegor as Maegor rode Balaerian the black dread.
I always think back to seasons 1 - 4 when i hear this music. It feels good that the writing has been of a similar quality as of late. Feels like we're back.

Honestly, this intro is SO MUCH better than the other one. Here you actually understand what is going on and it's not just a blood flow on a Valyrian macket. I understand the idea behind it, but it just doesn't look visually appealing. I know that the main idea behind it is the Targaryen legacy, family tree, and blood of the dragon, but it just felt like... Nah. Two minutes of just some rivulet. NOW HERE it is a completely different story. We follow the Targaryen history as it unfolds in front of us and we see more about the ancestors of the Targaryens and how they reached their current state. The whole tapestry itself is really good idea since usually in the past such events or family lines have been illustrated on them. The style itself is very suiting the theme and ambience of the show and gets one into the world of HOTD. Amazing work!
I agree. I really prefer it than the original one. History was always told through these tapestries. Even in season 1 of HOTD tapestries played a significant role for the house Targaryen. They took great pride in them since it reminded them of their old heritage of Valyria until the tapestries were removed by Alicent because of her faith and we can see how it affected future generations too especially Baelor's era. "Hand turns loom; spools of green, spools of black; dragons of flesh weaving dragons of thread". 1:25 it's something about war of both sides prophecy that Helaena concluded in 7th episode of season 1.
Idk, I really liked the Season 1 intro, something about the blood and the stone and the mechanics all clicking and whirring, that kind of thing really does it for me. But still, I totally get your point. I hope they switch it up every season, title cards are an underrated art.
Notice the fiery embers and ash hovering over the entire opening from start to finish. It could destroy the cloth at any moment. I didn’t notice it at first, but it adds another ominous layer to the whole thing both literally and story-wise.
The Doom of Valyria, the ashes of Aegon:s burnt enemies, the conflict between the Greens and the Blacks, the chaos that'll ensue during the Dance Of Dragons, the very distant threat of Robert Baratheon's future Rebellion and the eventual dethroning and death of House Targareyn.... So, so many embers all hovering over them
Only, it's called House of Dragons and the theme does not fit... Literally, the show is Bridgeton with Dragons ( and you had a Targeryeon theme). Yet, no originality when slapping on the same music, just like much of the show... 😒

0:10 something tells me that's Azor Ahai and Nissa Nissa, and that their story may be somehow related to the creation of Old Valyria and dragon bonds. And something tells me Lightbringer is no sword, but actually a dagger, since we see the man behind the woman wielding a much smaller weapon than a sword. I suspect Aegon The Conqueror's dagger is actually Lightbringer. It would make perfect sense, since Arya uses it centuries later to end the Night King, who represents darkness and destruction, and Aegon the Conqueror wrote the prophecy of the Song of Ice and Fire there.

There’s actually a few things right before the Doom of Valyria. - 0:04 the founding of the Valyrian Empire. - 0:07 the Valyrians creating dragons and them messing with blood magic. - 0:13 Daenys Targaryen dreaming of the Doom of Valyria and the Targaryens moving to Dragon Stone. - 0:24 Doom of Valyria. - 0:40 this shows the houses that tried to fight the Targaryens and being wiped out in the field of fire by the Targaryen’s dragons. -1:34 as the camera pans up to reveal an empty canvas ahead for all the future events that will occur and how it leads back to the Iron throne.
0:13 Daenys forsaw end of Valyria and Targaryens chose exile to get away from the catalyst that would occur. 0:24 Doom of Valyria 0:35 is the trio Targaryen siblings going for conquest. 0:40 is the fire of Harrenhall 0:45 is actually Field of Fire where House Gardener was destroyed and Lannisters bend the knee.
The only thing that is missing with this type of opening are the background sounds that the others possess. Like the movement of cogs and wheels, sound of rushing water or even the burning sun from the GoT opening, and many more. These sounds add to the epicness of the already epic intro
Imho sometimes the added sound effects are a bit too much. Probably it's just bad sound mixing that tried to recapture the epicness of the previous GOT. I hope the tapestry intro carries over the succeeding seasons because it has a more ancient Dark Age/Medieval vibe to it.
0:31 is when they burnt Harrenhal I think, or maybe the Doom of Valyria. 0:38 is Aegon, Rhaenys, and Visenya. 0:45 is the Field of Fire (I think, because you see a shield with what looks like the Gardener sigil and what looks like the Lannister sigil) 0:49 is House Arryn, Stark, and Tully bending the knee, 0:57 is "The Iron Throne" murdering Maegor. 1:00 is Jaehaerys and Alysanne. 1:03 is the Great Council. 1:08 is Alicent crashing Rhaenyra's pre-wedding feast in green, and the lines being drawn.
@@indiankid8601 so the only thing I can think of is how The Valyrian Freehold used to have slaves and how the Faceless Men came about after one prayed for their death. I highly doubt that it’s depicting it though. The other one could be Daenys the Dreamer prophesying about the Doom of Valyria to her father Aenar. Which is why the Targaryens flee and ended up surviving.
Still think it’s the weirdest decision in TV history to keep using this theme music. Should have been something heavily Targaryen or one of the beautiful new themes heard last season. Did they really judge the American audience that dumb, that they wouldn’t watch or get the show without this theme? Personally, I would have loved something based on the “Daenerys to the rescue” part of “Against All Odds”.
Oh dear god, pls this is the intro of A song of ice and fire saga. Anything related to the saga will have the same intro. Because HOTD is a prequel to the main series. Why do you need to change the theme when you already have a perfect one?

It’s associated with the era of the main series and it’s always been human nature that we attach music to time periods. It demonstrates our evolution. This show is nearly two centuries earlier. So, it’s so mismatched. Even a rework of the theme to make it sound two centuries more primitive or something might have put the right tilt on it. I hear this theme and I think of all the main series characters and storylines. I don’t think of this show. Ramin has done some fantastic new work for this show and they will be forever this show.

Unpopular opinion, but I really don't like how it has the same music as Game of Thrones. It feels like the producers just wanted to use the same iconic song in order to lure in a bigger audience, instead of allowing Ramin Djawadi to give the show it's own identity with a new banger.
Yeah I agree, it feels lazy that they reused and shows they’re too scared to take a risk with the intro. Which is dumb given we know Djawadi can make a killer theme. If I were them I’d make an intro theme that is reminiscent of GOT’s theme but is unique enough to have its own voice.
For sure. I don't think it's a bad thing that they're reusing the intro, especially as the rest of the soundtrack is again something composed by themselves. It simply belongs to the franchise and is its trademark, so sometimes you should just leave old things as they are
I really hope that in season 3, the tapestry is updated to include events from season 2, since this intro has the death of Lucerys Velaryon, which kickstarted the war.
Can't recognize anyone or anything (except a couple of dragons). All the shots look the same, mostly medium shots. Weird if you ask me. The particles flying are not in line with the vibe of the show. Felt like a downgrade.
No it’s definitely an upgrade. Season 1 intro was absolute trash. Seaosn 2’s intro clearly shows the linear history of the Targaryens and their dragons.
For those that want to known, I had the notion that this intro was inspired by the Bayeux Tapestry 1067, that is based on the Battle of Hastings of 1066, where the Normand's invaded England, seeing that the Targaryen are partially based on the Normans (also the Greek and Romans), is fitting that they did an intro with a tapestry showing their history, in the real world, William torn apart the body of Harold and cut into pieces, but the tapestry show a more rosy death for Harold.
Andals were based on Normans, Westeros is like stagnant medieval Europe where artstyle, architecture and economy don't change much so everything is really similar even hundreds of years later.
@@TheKeyser94 makes sense. I have always pictured the first men as Britons and the Andals as Anglo-Saxons (hell, Andal does sound like Angle after all). Notably, the Anglo-Saxons ended up splitting the island into seven kingdoms. Although in real history the kingdoms were united by a west saxon dinasty, it is still pretty accurate to see the Targaryens as Normans - especially since they both brought an innovation in warfare (dragons and mounted heavy cavalry).

At first I was startled that they did not come up with an original intro theme, but then the idea of this being the ASOIAF franchise theme grew on me. Besides, RD did some amazing work on original tracks for HotD anyway.
There does not need to be a dedicated HOTD theme. The main theme is The Song of Ice and Fire and It will remain the main theme in every upcoming spinoff
This issue is very interesting, it shows Valyria formed, a strange dragon with very strange wings from which blood comes out. a man about to be executed, the woman holds the corpse, yellow threads come out of it that lead to the destruction of valyria. I don't know what that is, but it shocked me more than the strong events of the episode. WTF IS THAT?
@@AyrtonFelipe1 Either It was the Blood betrayal when the Bloodstone Emperor killed his sister the Amethyst Empress to take her throne OR It was a depiction of the myth of Azor Ahai sacrificing Nissa Nissa to forge Lightbringer, which also implies that the myth of Azor Ahai was just a symbolic way to tell the story of the creation of dragons through blood magic(human sacrifices). IMO all those events are part of the same story, it's just that the story is so old that no one in the currrent events of the book series really knows the truth.
I think it's wise they stuck to this theme. It's impossible to top and they can use it as connective tissue to all the other shows tied to GOT in the future
