Good job it worked. Here is a pro tip: The reason why the buckle has locked is because the return spring has popped out of place. If look down inside the buckle you will see a tiny spring inside. Spray just a little WD-40 on it. Then with a butter knife, carefully push down (as if to simulate pushing the buckle in) then slide the sideways carefully pushing the spring back into the cavity wall. With that you will hear the spring click back into place and the buckle will work again. This is essentially what Platinum Life was doing with the knife. Hope this helps.

My car's seat belt just starting doing the same thing in this video tonight. I was thinking of getting a can of WD-40 to spray down inside it. I will try this tomorrow. I hope it works for me too. Thanks for your tip David Penny and thanks for the video Platinum Life.

Was searching RU-vid to see if I could actually fix the latch on my car and yours was the only one that made sense. I tried it, just the way you did and after about one minute my seat belts was latching. thank you very much. You save me a lot of money and a lot of hassle of having to take the seat out to remove and replace the latch.

Thanks Platimun Life! Just fixed my 2004 Sienna Driver and Front Passenger Seatbelt lock with this silicone lubricant. I observed, the red latch-release was not back all the way up. Kind of stuck in half-depressed position. Just sprayed the lubricant in from top on all four sides of the latch-release in the small gap between the release and the enclosing wall repeatedly, as I kept pressing and releasing the latch-release. After 4-5 repetitions, the latch-release popped all the way up. At that point the seat-belt lock worked again. Didn't need to use any knife or pry anything. Total cost $2.97 for the lubricant at Walmart.

Both of my front seat belt latches are broken..the red buttons have both cracked due to age..so i bought 2 new latches on ebay for 10 bucks each for the exact specs on my toyota. i dreaded having to take out both of my front bucket seats to replace these boogered up latches...Soooo, what i did was to buy new latches and instead of taking out the seats, i just took the housings off of the old ones and carefully exchanged them with the new...it wasnt that hard to do..both of the red push buttons were really all i needed to change over. took me about 30 minutes to do both of them.. saved me from pulling out both seats and tracks which would have been a 2-3 hour job..this was much easier and wasnt stressful replacing them. you just have to be careful because there are springs in these latches and you dont want to lose one of them..i took off the plastic housing and took a close up photo of the inside so as not to forget what goes where.. i always do that when i have to do a repair so i dont screw things up like i usually do when i take things apart.
@kens6323

Thanks for the Tip. It worked for me, but I had to keep working it. I used a hacksaw blade and the seat buckle. Any silicone spray should work and if the problem is a issue with the latch sticking. This should work for any vehicle. The red part of the latch/push button release was sticking in the down position. I could pry it up with something put it would stick again until I used the silicon and worked it for about 20 minutes.

That's ridiculous you can order the whole seat belt with the spring and airbag attached to the coil that returns your seatbelt for about $79. And get a new Buckle as well yeah you might have to install it but you can see their markups are insane

OMG my seat belt was about to piss me off. I had been having problems with it for quite some time now. 2night it decided to NOT work at all. Maybe 2 years or something like that i had been having a hard time latching it. Maybe longer I cannot remember. MINE is a honda civic coupe 2 door. 2001. I don't DO chemicals. Chemicals aren't your friend. SO i shoved vegatable oil down there first with my fingers. Then i got a flat drew driver and shoved it down in there. Then I went and got some q tips to work down in there with the vegetable oil. IT seemed like it was starting work a little. But still DID not work. THEN i went and got some coconut oil to work down in there with Q tips then i thought to myself i will wait awhile (like 30 min) and go back out there to see if it works. Then I got on this second video and went out there with a butter knife. I shoved it down there to the left and to the right and NOW it works great!!!!! Just like brand new!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I think the screw driver would have worked alone too or maybe you do need something wider. NOT sure if the waiting it out worked or the butter knife. Thanks!! But it works totally like brand new now.

There is an electrical switch inside the buckle that signals that your belt is locked on and turns off the damn light and dinger. You can short that switch out with oil spray. So first just try blowing compressed air in the buckle to dislodge any crap that fell in there. Then try the knife trick. Then just a little spray. You don't need to douse the thing with oil.

I sprayed wd40 and UNBOLTED it. It was one of the belts in the back seat so I had to remove the seat part to get to the bolt. By doing this I was able to turn it upside down and wiggled the butter knife in and out the top, and the underside too, (since it was in my hand now) pushing the button a bunch. It seemed the button wasn’t returning back when I tried to buckle it. It felt like it was returning smoother than I started so I checked it. CLICK,!
