3D printing is already miniaturizing these micro-jet engines... energy source is unlikely to change away from carbon fuels in the next 30 years, fuel energy density is the limiting factor of flight time in this, and it will be very hard to beat the energy density of carbon fuels in that timeframe. I could see a transition from jet fuel to liquid methane with material improvements to pressure vessels and insulation.

You could strengthen the users arms with available hard or soft exo suit technology to allow for longer flight times. A more modular design would incorporate holders for the rockets in these exo arm pieces, and when not currently flying the user can simply fold them to their back instead of at their thighs. Just a few thoughts from a still learning engineer

At the time the limiting factor on fly time is the fuel consumption and tank capacity. They have to extend fly time 3 times before arms getting sour will be an concern.

Air is to thin at those altitudes. The engines would have about a third of the power at those altitudes compared to sea level.

This is amazing, have been a fan and followed you guys for a while now. My advice is add a very lightweight exoeskeleton that absorbs the pressure from the jets so everyone can use it, and you can make this a lot more mainstream. Also in the longer horizon i would work on a lightweight suit that could absorb pressure/imapact to save user from injury from at least small falls.

It's very practical, far cheaper than the £2000 an hour rate for a helicopter to search ground ( never mind all the other support vehicles) and the word silly most certainly does not apply. It's relatively very cheap, very practical ( you just saw it arrive in a fairly normal car and hit the top minutes later...) and far from silly. To be clear... cheap practical not silly...

@@donindri use a drone for finding a victim and use the jetpack to get a first responder to said victim. First responder can stabilize the victim until he/she can be safely removed from the mountain. Either by foot or via helicopter. Most issues now are because rescue teams dont know the condition of casualties so speed is crucial. If you know the casualty is stable, you can be a lot more careful with safely rescuing the casualty.

This is potential realized. Mountain navigation. You could use this in search and rescue to locate a lost survivor and triage them while EMS is on the way. This could revolutionize Mountain warfare.
