It's so nice to see a down to earth shooter sharing his excellent knowledge. I'm a sparks (electrician) in the UK and try to get work done to free up shooting time too.
Thanks for putting together these videos, I really want to see you do a brass prep video from start to finish. Every detail, new brass, fired brass volume sorting, neck turning, full length sizing, triming, bumping shoulders, concentricity, Thanks in advance, Evan.
Really enjoy the videos. A lot of RU-vidrs talk the talk but they never show the results. You not only have the experience, but have the results as proof. I have a hard time trusting some of these guys that don't have the bona fides that you possess. Keep up the great work and good luck!
Love this VLOG series Erik! It's like sitting in the shop with good friends just talking about stuff we all love to do. Bonus for us is, we get to chat with one of the best. Appreciate your time and love for the sport!!
Heck man..ya gotta love those dudes that knows so much more about shooting than you do..lol..most of them couldn't hit a tour bus at 200yds..I enjoy reading the comments on your page .I get a kick out of it .....as far as that rum load goes about 104 gr of retumbo with a regular 215 primer and a 250 gr accubond.. always shoots clover leafs in every rifle I've tried it in..it's just a good OCW load for the runs. Kinda like the 168 match king load federal does for 308s.. but anyway.. good luck in your matches..smokem when ya gotem..
@@DCFusor Indeed! I can't tell you how many high income people I've seen with some spendy gear that vastly underperform. I kind of like my cheap gear because it doesn't set expectations too high. Nobody expects me to do well with my $300 Savage, lol!
@@G5Hohn Same here - I love my "sleepers" no matter the activity. I have a cheap looking Cooper .223 bolt that is ~ .1 moa, for example, with a cheap import scope on it (works fine)...The looks on their faces when the targets come back....A buddy is a great musician and has good gear, but can make a guitar most would use as a doorstop sound amazing - skill matters. It's a poor workman blames his tools, but that has multiple meanings. A good one makes better tools eventually - but can usually get good results out of bad ones in the meantime.
New intro is sweet, keep it up! I still crimp, but out of habit. I picked up some new Lapua brass and next week will load some up with and without crimp and would be surprised if I don't change my program. I have been resizing with an expander die and bought a micrometer to do some measurements for ordering bushings and a Redding die, it will be interesting to see what difference that makes on the chrono and paper. I have seen some people use the bushing and then a smaller expander just in the hope of smoothing out any concentricity issues but it doesn't look like you do. I'll try with just the redding type S and compare that to the normal full size with expander and let the data decide what is right.
Great shooting Eric !! The ones who are fast on the negative comments are just normal .. Being in from the East side of Bexar county I feel you are like other Texas boys . We’re proud but humble and just keep sending rounds down range with a smile !
Great info, really interesting and insightful to hear all the trade secrets from such a good shooter. As a fairly new shooter I think I have relearned most of what I thought I knew between you and f-class John.
Ive noticed vids of yours I have liked, seems lately show up like not did I not like it, but that Ive never watched it. While the latter is wonderful, because Im gettin older and my memory sucks, not to mention seein' you Eric given us idiots pointers! As always, still happy with my tuner, need to pick up a couple more for my .308s.
that's why I have a 550. I have to be happy with everything before I index it. If I feel I short stroked a round I can double chk it. True blue, dillion blue.
I love this channel. Tons of great info. With regards to improving positional shooting, would it be beneficial to build an PRS props: mock rooftop, barrier with ports, car hood, and setup one of your several spare MPA open rigs in .22 LR and have a small indoor shooting range with steel traps in your shop? You already have the precision reloading aspects of the sport already dialed in, and at your level there might not be that much more to improve on in that area. Just a thought.
I tried some CLR on a muzzle brake that had a lot of carbon once . It seemed to help but Then I tried some high acidity white vinegar (9% kind they sell at grocery store) and it worked way better and melted the carbon away after some soaking. Never tried it inside that barrel
Hi Eric, I'm new to reloading so your knowledge and experience are very helpful - thanks for putting the time in to publish. One question (that you may have covered earlier but I've not seen) - when sizing brass what neck tension do you aim for? Thanks for the videos - keep them coming.
Everyone should measure to ogive to ensure consistency instead from tip for final bullet seating depth ... again keeping things consistent and repeatable
Think I may have missed why you seat the bullet long, is it so you can use the progressive press as intended but you are worried about the inconsistency in the holder, so you then redo it with only the marked holder?
G'day Erik, from the UK. If you seat all heads long by 20 thou', how do you judge seating pressure as seen in one of your other videos when you use a dial gauge?
Erik, you offer an extremely valuable service to those of us who are not to proud to admit that "we do not know everyting" you do this in spite of public criticism, You Tube red tape and in between your own busy home, work and pro shooting constraints, I personally cannot thank you enough and i pray that you find the time to produce a book so that myself, my children and future generations can benefit from your easily digestible instruction style and no nonsense "pure gold" wealth of knowledge.
Loving the vlogs mate, with as much knowledge as you have, theres always lots of little gems of info that come thru when ya just chewing the fat. I know how much work is involved with making and editing these vids. Really appreciate your commitment to this. Cheers from New Zealand!
Thank you for taking the time to publish these videos. i have been loading for almost 50 years ( just for fun) & I learn some thing new every video. Please continue and I am looking forward to the F Class loading info. Got a lot of respect for you. Good luck at the match....
I've used the shell holder with the bullet puller since I bought it... can't remember where I picked that trick up either. Also, anyone who claims they can pull that group off shooting off-handed, please include a link to that video! I enjoyed being wowed by sharp shooters.
Yes Erik, I want to see the f-class prep!!!!!! I ordered 16lbs of vv n150 for my two 6x47 builds. What powder are you running in your 284 shehane? I'll be looking for the tapered tuner to come back in stock.
In PRS you go to a lot of trouble to keep your neck tension as accurate and consistent as possible. Crimping screws all that up. And you also don't really need to crimp these rounds anyway since they're not field loads.
Erik, thanks for the Video's. i know it takes time away from your family and reloading and work. i spend at the least 1 hour per day in the morning reloading and prepping brass for 5. F class rifles i have and the rest of the time building them for customers. Future video suggestion " reading wind ".
I really enjoy your content and appreciate the time you put into passing down the info that most of us wouldn't know. Great work! Oh btw, that CLR trick is good to go.
I think your doing a good job, I’m not quiet up to your level yet but you do a good job of explaining yourself, when it comes to equipment, I’m a firm believer in high quality, you get what you pay for.... love your videos, please keep them coming bro✌🏼👍🏼
i'am 78, dad started me reloading when i was around 12. Back then was a hole lot less complicated LOL .Thanks. Goes to show your never to old to learn something new.KEEP up the good work.
Thanks for doing what you can for the channel! I hope it continues to grow despite the issues with RU-vid. I’m sure I speak for many others but we appreciate all the information. A lot better than most tubers out there!
As someone looking to hop into F class I love these videos and all the knowledge. It's cool to learn what I can while waiting for the last few reloading pieces to come. Also someday I'd love to see your new case prep process. Especially because there seems to be so much hocus pocus surrounding the process so it would be nice to hear a no B.S. viewpoint
Why don’t you crimp your freedom seeds? I noticed you load 1 seed at a time. But if you had multiple seeds in a magazine. Couldn’t the recoil change the seating depth? Especially in a tubular magazine, like a lever action. I recently found your channel. Great content 👍 Subbed,. Keep up the great videos.
Hey Eric you said you don’t crimp I’m shootings a 22-250 in a AR 10 auto I’m thinking it would be better to crimp for that platform , what do you think ? Thanks for all you do .
Eric, I'm really learning a lot of new things from your vlogs, even though I've been reloading since the mid 60's. Started with working up loads for my new 22-250, and having some friendly competition with my military friends. 5 in a dime was the group size we sought to attain back then at a mere 100 yards!!! Recently have adopted some of your "advanced procedures" and am finding them very helpful. Bullet concentricity has become an issue recently on one of my calibers. (since I acquired that piece of test equipment). .010-.015 runout seems a bit much. I'm curious as to which seating dies (manufacturer) you are using or would recommend for me to use on my RCBS "Rock Chucker" press?? Keep the great videos coming....I'm very appreciative of your knowledge.
I really like your vids Erik, thank you for doing it.....sadly the modern world is suffering greatly from ungrateful narcissists....I have jumped in the deep end, as it were, and have spent much on equipment and such. In Australia the licensing process is considerable, and range access can be limited....at the moment in West Aus there is reluctance to permit PRS as a discipline. However......where there is a will, there is a way. I have a .22 (Lithgow LA101) to shoot at my pistol club, and I have a .223 (T3X ctr) for my skills development over distance, both with Vortex 5-24 x 50. My main long range shooter is 6.5CM (Lithgow LA105) with Vortex Laser HD Gen11....I chose that over the Tac A1 (a bit heavy, I thought). I have invested in reloading equipment and am looking forward to giving it a go (I have avidly watched Bolt Action Reloader, Ultimate Reloader, Yourself and others, and have gotten only what I need). I will soon buy a barrel tuner from you, after watching one of your vids. From the beginning I will only use Berger seeds and Lapua brass......my nearby g.shop has both. I have heaps of stuff to get still....giving my cc a break for a while.....but I have some expensive stuff still to get. Thanks once more for all the content.
I love the "I could too if......." guys. I have shot another shooters precision rifle and yes I shot his properly set up gun better than I shot mine. However I did not shoot as well as he did. Equipment helps your preparation show up more. Love the channel, keep the videos and information coming.
I am amazed at all the reloading and stuff behind making them consistent. Im new to LR stuff and shooting box ammo for now. Whats you best advice to get into loading your own rounds? And where did you learn or start your experiences from? What brand of reloading equipment do you recommend? Is RCBS any good for a beginner? I bought a Delta 5 in 6.5 a few weeks back and Thursday I should have my Vortex Razor Gen II 4.5-27x56 EBR-7C and now have an Atlas PSR BT46 IW17 on lay away.
Dangerous acts?! Well I suppose with the world like it is, example, commercial for drug saying don't take if you are allergic, watch your step on a flight of stairs, coffee machine has CAUTION HOT and those are the one's not completely insane. People don't wanna think for themselves and blame other's for thier ignorance! It's like we live in a world of toddler's! Sorry, got on a rant!😂🤣 Great videos! Keep'em coming!
I use painters tape with the load written on it. When I change powder the tape goes on the jug and new powder and new tape for the different load. Ive made the same mistake. It happens just dont want to repeat it.
"If I had that rifle... Or scope... Or etc..." People foolishly assume that if you just spend $$$ you can go out and excel at something. They don't see the hours upon hours of work that goes in to making good shooting happen. Like everything else in life, spending money on good equipment helps but it's no substitute for putting in the hours of study and practice. We see but a tiny fraction of the work that Erik puts into improving his shooting.
Yep delusional people lol. My whole life I've seen things like musical instruments everywhere & most people CAN'T play. Lots drop so much money on the best gear then find out this is hard, it will take forever to learn & get good!! That's why every pawn shop in the world is FULL of guitars 😂. Almost no one wants to put in the work to excel at anything bc it's not easy. Kinda sad. And then you can't tell anyone anything these days bc they already know it all! Alot of these same people can't shoot for s@#t & they all have the same excuses haahaha. Well let me tell you sweetheart it's NOT the gun 😂😄 I have several inexpensive guns & can out shoot most!!! Im a show off, I'll put my $ where my mouth is too!
Hi Erick..I use the Collet puller did exactly what you did .You were saying about the ring on the bullet etc..Did something different..Say for instance you wanted to pull a .243 freedom seed now you take that .243 Collet it did leave marks on my bullet that I didn't like..So what I did I went 1 step collet up..Took a .25 collet grabbed that bullet perfect with out damaging it.
I'm glad I'm not the only Latino the loves precision shooting and reloading. I'm shooting 1.5" groups I'm trying to be under 1" with my setup. Just switched to bushing dies and sorting bullets.
First thanks for sharing your wisdom! But please be careful with CLR. It will remove the blueing. So good on stainless but not safe for black guns. Don’t ask me how I know...
I have a Dillon 650, I'm now busy pumping out 9mm. It takes a bit of time to load 6,000 rounds of that and 4,000 rounds of 40 Cal.😄 Just joking I do have that much brass & bullets just not enough powder to do them all.
guys that make the "try it off hand" comment do not get or understand shooting for group or striving for ultimate accuracy. Also - IMO anyone who can shoot consistently from a rest can generally shoot quite well off hand....better than the guy making "those" comments.
I have used CLR for something in the past, but can't even remember what it was. Last week I threw some 5.56 brass in my Harbor Freight ultrasonic cleaner with some CLR. Despite the warning on the can that it would etch brass, it didn't. What it did do is gobble up all the carbon residue and leave my cases squeaky clean. They're not shiny like a tumbler would do, but it only takes about five minutes. No sign of etching. I suppose it would etch brass in a couple of hours, but it didn't in five minutes. For those that complain about brass being wet from washing, I can't help you.If you can't figure out how to dry your brass, you probably shouldn't attempt to reload ammunition.
Eric thanks for all the great videos mate... love your work... question tho... load development.. new brass or once fired.??? If I'm full length resizing to only bump the shoulder 2 thousands on the first reloading and so the brass will be different for brand new... new or once fired for load development?
Eric, would love to know your opinion on primers. With the primer shortage now, the only thing you can find is Large Rifle Magnum primers, what are your thoughts on how that affects loads (having to work it up from minimum) and accuracy?
